Chapter 121: The Difference Between Then and Now

"Hahahaha! Another one for me," I say, slapping a card onto the table. A bubble of flesh with eyes in front of me makes a strange noise, then throws all its cards on the table and stomps away, pissed off.

"You’re a cheater, Black Hero! You fucking asshole!" he yells, deliberately bumping into a chair and shattering it on his way out the door. Other monsters burst into laughter as I toss my remaining cards onto the table.

’So easy.’ I pull my winnings closer and glance around.

"So, does anyone else want to play and make a bet? I’ll wager everything I won from that loser!" I say playfully and eagerly, while a few of them ponder if it’s worth the risk, but no one says a word.

"What a shame. Looks like no one here has the guts to face the great Black Hero-kun," I say mockingly, thinking about what to do next. Lately, a lot of monsters have been fleeing from something, so things have slowed down a lot.

And I felt it too—a bizarre aura. It wasn’t a Magical Girl; it was something worse, more sinister. For seven days, that aura just kept spreading throughout the city until it finally vanished.

No monster knows what it was, but it was so vile and terrifying that many fled the city. And incredibly, even I felt threatened by that aura, though I didn’t run from it.

But it’s still curious. I don’t know if it’s a monster or something else, but I don’t think I should mess with whatever released that aura.

"Hey, Black Hero, I’ll play!" A humanoid monster of the type that disguises itself as a human sits down at the table.

"Oh, a brave one! I like that. So, what’s your wager?" I ask as he places a few gold bars on the table.

"Well, this is all I have," he says. I push everything I’d won over next to his gold bars. After all, I’m not here to win anything; I’m just killing time.

"Great. I’ll bet everything I won, even though what you’re offering is less." I grab the cards from the table and shuffle them super fast. I practically never lose since everything seems absurdly slow to me.

"You seem good at what you..." He suddenly stops talking. Everyone stops talking, and even I look around carefully. Something feels wrong—a bizarre sensation that something dangerous has entered the room.

All the monsters glance at each other until I see her. That Magical Girl I swore I killed. She’s wearing a long white overcoat, the kind for cold weather.

I stand up from the table as the other monsters finally notice she’s here.

’How did she get in without anyone noticing? She seems different... very different...’ I’ve never seen a Magical Girl survive the damage I dealt to her before. And her gaze is truly dangerous.

"Hello, Magical Girl. Did you miss the Black Hero so much you decided to pay a visit?" I ask cheerfully, moving closer to her.

"I came to kill you for that humiliation in the past," she says as I stare back. Her gaze is serious, as if she can actually follow through on that threat.

"Luck smiled on you, and you walked away alive after meeting me... and you threw that luck away? I just don’t get you Magical Girls." Many monsters look at her with desire. She quickly aims her gun at me.

"I came to kill you... I don’t want to talk too much... My head is a mess, and I can’t rationally hold a conversation right now. So, how about we skip your usual monologue?"

"Hahahaha, how funny..." As I laugh, she fires a shot. The bullet is as slow as in the past, when her attacks were pathetically weak.

’I can easily dodge or stop it...’

"!!!" Out of absolute nowhere, she’s right beside me with the gun pressed against my head. I’m shocked I didn’t see her move. I lean all the way down, barely dodging as the second shot from her gun releases a beam of magic. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

The beam is so violent and massive that it completely disintegrates the left side of this underground subway line.

I leap back and see blood trickling down my face, showing I was hit before I even noticed.

"H-Hahaha?" I laugh, confused. I’ve never seen a Magical Girl become strong enough to face me after just a few months.

"Bang!" She points the gun at me and makes a shooting sound with her mouth, moving the gun as if it had fired. I recognize the mockery, and the hatred for her finally surges within me.

"You fucking bitch." I don’t underestimate her anymore. She can clearly kill me now. This is nothing like that weak girl I humiliated. The monsters down here finally realize she’s capable of fighting me and start to flee.

I see her sprouting wings, but they’re something completely strange—they resemble bat wings, but are utterly black.

"In the past, you tried so hard to make me tell you my name, didn’t you? Our first fight interested you so much... So I’ll introduce myself properly now."

"I am Setsuna... and I’ve come here to reap your shitty life." She fires a shot that is monstrously larger than the last. I dodge to the side, grabbing my sword and charging at her, aiming for her neck.

"...?" She vanishes, and when I see her again, she’s already flying.

’Again!!? AGAIN?!’ I’m furious. Almost no one is faster than me, so losing in a contest of speed infuriates me deeply.

"..." She fires upward, blasting through the ceiling as she flies.

"GET BACK HERE, YOU WRETCHED BITCH!" I almost never get enraged, but seeing her come here to humiliate me like this makes me angrier than I ever expected. I leap upward, blasting through the ceiling.

My eyes quickly scan the area, finding her trail. She’s heading out of the city. Normally, that would be an annoyance, but now that she’s strong, I find it good—it means no weaklings will show up to interrupt the fight.

And it also means no one will save her this time. This time, I’ll make sure to kill this Magical Girl.

"This time, I’ll cut your head off, Setsuna... YOU’LL REGRET NOT KILLING ME WITH THAT FIRST SHOT!" The instant my foot touches the ground, I blast off, tearing through all structures and covering kilometers almost instantly, finding her flying super fast ahead.

We enter a forested area as I accelerate even more, getting right below her. I leap up to reach her and deliver a spinning kick from above, slamming her down toward the ground.

She dodges, but lands below in a more open area of the forest, calmly waiting for me to touch down.
