Malevolent Warlock: Sin Of Eternity-Chapter 82: Tempering event- 2
"System, where is this?" Leon asked the system.
[Ding!!!
Calculating....
Scaldorn had formatted the system’s backlogs and removed every hidden commands before merging with it. Now it was no longer a threat to Leon, only a tool for his use.
[Ding!!
The host is 40 km away from duan city, there is a hidden underground passage way that leads past several natural formations 10 km from here. Without that, the distance between here and duan City.....
]
The system went into great detail in describing Leon’s current location. This was something it wasn’t capable of doing previously….the merging was actually very helpful in improving its functionalities.
"Gather around guys!! The captain would like to speak to you" next to a carriage not too far away, a young man with dodgy eyes and blue hair called out.
On the flatland before the massive mountainous formation, numerous groups were being formed all over. These guys comprised of the various factions of the faceless mercenary company.
"Yh, let’s go" Leon placed his hand on Embers shoulder and urged. They, too, belong to a faction of the company…the Virtan faction.
"Gather around in an orderly fashion, we don’t want to offend the Blade Demon."
"Can’t believe that monster is in the virtan faction, I thought this faction was meant to be comfortable....."
"Hey, shush if he hears you. It might just spell your death."
The new recruits of the virtan faction gathered around a small rock at the side of the flatland. They were here to see the faction’s captain for the tempering event.
The blade Demon. The tempering event was not just a random event that benefited everyone. It was also a competition. The further you go, the more benefits you would reap.
To that effect, they had to choose the best of the best among the recruits to lead each faction. And for the virtan faction, it was the blade Demon.
He was an average-sized youth with a strong build and muscles. But he was not ordinary, he was a special status member of the company, meaning he killed more than 15 people in his entrance test. He had also finished an A ranked mission with his team during the past few weeks.
"Salute!!" One of the cronies of the blade Demon commanded.
But most of all, what he was known for was his ruthlessness. During his entrance test, he brutally ended the lives of so many people, if that wasn’t bad enough, he hung their bodies upside down on a pillar after he was done just to prove a point. He didn’t care for human life one bit.
"Sir!!" Some of the faction members saluted. Naturally, not all of them did, there were still hidden dragons among them. For example, Ember was here and a few others from prominent mercenary families.
"Who’s Badur?" After the salute, the blade Demon suddenly asked a question, forcing the guys around to frown and look around. They didn’t know who that was.
"That would be me" Leon raised his hand and stepped forward.
"Ah? You are the vice captain?" The blade Demon asked. This caused an air of confusion to fill the area. Actually, no one knew who Leon was. Every single person who participated in his test was killed, so no one really knew him.
"Yes" Leon nodded. He was the vice captain, even though he didn’t have a say in it. When he appeared, he was given this responsibility out of the blue.
"Ahhh, well, come over" The blade Demon beckoned. Leon becoming the vice captain was a last-minute change from one of the prominent elders of the company, Half-moon. He didn’t particularly care, he just wanted to know why.
Leon proceeded to walk forward towards the middle of the group, where the blade Demon stood.
"Oh? Fire Jackal?" As soon as Leon stepped forward, the blade Demon noticed someone beside him. Ember.
He recognized her. Even with her faceless mask, he could tell this was Half-moon’s daughter.
"Dirty killer" Ember sneered in the blade Demon’s direction. She actually hated this guy. They had their test in the same location….which was particularly big, but the asshole still saw it necessary to kill her friend.
She had warned everyone participating beforehand to lay off her friend, and most did, except for blade Demon. He used her distraction with another opponent to take her friend life.
"Hehe, you’re all talk" the blade Demon mocked before turning away to look back at the crowd. He wanted to know who Leon was, but upon seeing him with Ember, he understood that Leon was just a plant by Half-moon. He definitely didn’t merit this position of his.
"Soon the event will begin. Do not hope for any instructions from the officials. We will have to find a way into the caves ourselves, then we will need to find the tempering area....." The blade Demon explained to them.
This tempering event was not some walk in the park, it was called a tempering event for a reason. They had to merit what they wanted to receive.
Soon enough, the groups scattered around trying to find an entrance into the mountainous formation. Even though they were hundreds of door shaped enclaves all over the place, none of them actually led anywhere. They were just there’s for decoration.

"Check that one over there"
"Don’t waste time, the first person in might get a surprising benefit"
The recruits were frantic. They even went as far as banding to attack the doors….but no matter how hard they tried, all they met was Rock and rubble.

To the side of a wall not too far away from the virtan faction members, Leon could be seen checking how hallow the door enclaves in front of him were.
"What are you doing?" Ember asked with a discontented look on her face. Leon was checking if the doors were hallow. What kind of strategy was that?
"Huh? I’m trying to find the entrance….what about you?" Leon asked innocently, as if he were genuinely looking for an entrance.
"Hmp!! That’s stupid, come with me" After a few seconds of looking at Leon accomplishing absolutely nothing, Ember walked away causally from the group.
"Oh?" Leon looked over at her and watched her walk away confidently. "Wait for me" Leon left what he was doing and followed her.
She was walking towards a rock at a secluded corner of the mountainous formation. There, no one that wasn’t paying attention would notice them.
"Hmp!!" As soon as she appeared before the rock, she pushed forward with her hand, causing the Rock to move out of the way.
Underneath it was a small pitch-black hole. It was small, but not so small that she couldn’t pass through….without looking back, she jumped forward and directly went into the hole.
"Well that’s interesting…" Leon chuckled. He had noticed that even though it seemed like the recruits were struggling to enter the mountainous formation, their numbers had gone down by a lot.
There were people with roots in the company, and, of course, they had information on the entrances into the mountains from their backers.
—woosh.
Leon dropped into the hole, but not before leaving a helpful message for those above round.
"Check under the rocks!!!!!"
Leon’s voice echoed from no particular direction. But it was able to immediately spark a reaction in the heart of the other recruits.
" Did you hear that?"
"Rocks?"
"Check under the rocks!!!"
All of a sudden, the entire area went into a frenzy. They had found the entrance due to Leon’s assistance!! This was a good outcome. To them.
As for those outside who wanted a head start, Leon had made things difficult for them. If you weren’t inside already, you would need to compete like everyone else.
"Keep up" Embers figure dashed around in the dark underground. From behind them, small rays of light had begun to surface as the other recruits flooded into the entrances.
"Why did you do that?" Ember queried with an annoyed expression on her face. She didn’t understand what letting these guys know about the entrance would do for them.
It didn’t seem beneficial at all.
But Leon had his reasons. And one of them was to slow down the talents that were still above ground. If they had to constantly compete with the bulk of recruits, they wouldn’t have the time to find trouble for him.
As for the second, it was because Leon wanted chaos.....chaos would create an avenue for Leon to accomplish what he set out for...
Of course, he didn’t know that he had just caused a massive problem for the official observing the tempering event.
"Who was that fool?!!" A bald headed man in black robes complained from a bench situated on top the mountain.
They had watched Leon announce the entrance to everyone. This was bad. They didn’t plan for everyone to enter at once, this might create a situation where they wouldn’t be able to cater for everyone.
It was a disaster.
