Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 398: Everyone Adores Selina, Okay?
Chapter 398: Everyone Adores Selina, Okay?
"Plus-one?"
Technically, yes—guests could bring a plus-one. But...
"Aren’t you afraid people will say you’re living off your wife?"
Logan raised an eyebrow.
"Let them talk. Most of them wish they were in my position."
Selina: "..." She was starting to feel like Logan’s shamelessness was reaching new heights.
...
On the day of the banquet – at the Brown Family estate:
Brown Group had recently moved from City N to City A. The current heads of the family—also famous actor Damien’s parents—were powerful and well-known. Naturally, their move attracted a crowd of well-wishers.
Selina had just stepped out of the car when she overheard some whispers nearby.
"Did you guys hear the gossip? Brown Family didn’t send Mr. Reid an invitation!"
That one sentence caused a stir.
"What? No way! I heard they even sent one to Owen—he just didn’t have the guts to show up."
"Exactly. Both Amelia and Owen got invited, but not Mr. Reid? Are the Browns siding with Owen or something?"
"Actually, I heard it’s nothing like that. Supposedly, Damien and Mr. Reid have some personal beef. After all, Selina still got an invitation."
"Huh... so that means Selina’s here alone?"
Everyone fell into thoughtful silence.
Right—Logan wasn’t present, and Selina had cut ties with the Morris Family. So today, she was attending solo. That... had to feel a little bleak.
"I heard Chairman Morris and Grandma Morris are here, too. And they brought some young lady from a side branch—she’s been glued to Grandma Morris like she’s her real granddaughter!"
Selina listened with growing amusement.
So this was the Morris Family’s game plan.
They wanted her to see firsthand the kind of privileges that came with being one of them.
She was about to lean in for more gossip when everyone around her suddenly went quiet.
She looked up—and saw why. The Morris Family’s car had arrived.
The driver opened the door. First out was Joe, then Grandma Morris, and finally a young woman Selina had never seen before.
She looked to be in her early twenties and followed timidly behind Joe.
Despite the recent scandals, the Morris Family was still City H’s number-one family. No one dared to be disrespectful.
As Joe headed toward the main entrance, the crowd instinctively stepped aside to make way.
And right there, standing at the entrance, was Selina—about to go in herself.
Joe hesitated, as if unsure whether to speak.
But Grandma Morris didn’t give him the chance.
"Move. We’re going in first." Her voice was cool and commanding.
Selina raised her brows. Oh? Let’s see what kind of show they’re about to put on.
"Sure," she said, stepping aside.
Grandma Morris didn’t even glance at her. Instead, she turned to the girl beside her with a smile.
"Sandy, come on. Don’t be nervous. You’re a Morris—of course people make way for you."
People exchanged awkward glances.
Joe looked uncomfortable. He mumbled, "Selina..."
Grandma Morris cut him off.
"Sandy, you need to be smart. See? When you’re a true daughter of the Morris Family, you have special treatment wherever you go. Some people chose to walk away from the Morris name—so now, they just have to wait in line."
She gave Selina a cold, sidelong glance. "Isn’t that right, Selina?"
"Mom..." Joe swayed slightly on his feet.
Selina watched the Morris Family perform with great interest, then calmly nodded. "Oh. Go ahead. I’ll keep waiting in line."
"Selina, you don’t have to—"
"Hmph! Some people don’t appreciate kindness. Fine. Sandy, let’s go."
Sandy Morris looked uncomfortable. She bit her lip and said softly,
"Uncle Joe, let’s just head in. We shouldn’t keep everyone waiting."
Joe hesitated again, clearly torn, but after a sharp look from Grandma Morris, he gave up and quietly followed.
Selina watched him go and nodded.
Big brother was right—Joe really doesn’t have a spine.
...
After the Morris Family left, the crowd around Selina was stunned.
"What? Isn’t the Morris Family trying to bring Selina back into the fold? What’s with this? Instead of apologizing, they dote on a side-branch daughter right in front of their real one. What are they trying to say?"
"That’s why I say Selina’s got it rough. If she’d just returned to the Morris Family, she wouldn’t have to suffer this kind of humiliation. Look—now even some side-branch girl is stepping all over her."
"I’ve heard of this Sandy. She’s considered one of the more outstanding ones in the Morris Family, but still—not to the point of completely sidelining the actual heiress."
...
Inside the villa.
Joe frowned in concern.
"Mom, do you think we went too far? Selina’s my daughter, and yet I’ve shown her no support... Instead, we..."
"Joe!" Grandma Morris let out a cold laugh.
"Sandy may not be your biological daughter, but standing next to you, she’s already making Selina look second-rate. Don’t you get it?"
"Just wait. She’ll soon realize how many benefits come with being part of the Morris Family. She’ll come back to us."
"Joe, you said you wanted her back. Well, sometimes she needs to be pushed a little."
Sandy’s eyes lit up as she said sweetly, "Don’t worry, Uncle. I’ll do my best to help Selina come home."
Grandma Morris gave her a pleased smile.
"Did you wear the watch I gave you? Be sure to show it off—let Selina see the kind of wealth our family holds."
"Don’t worry, Grandma. I’m ready."
Only then did Grandma Morris turn to Joe.
"See, Joe? I would never hurt you. Just listen to me, and everything will turn out exactly as it should."
Joe hesitated for a long moment... then nodded.
...
The banquet officially began.
As soon as Selina entered, Logan was pulled away by Damien. The two of them disappeared upstairs for some private discussion, leaving her sitting alone downstairs in the grand ballroom, utterly bored.
"That’s Selina, right...? She really came alone?"
"Meanwhile, the Morris Family is parading Sandy around like a trophy. Did they just forget about their real daughter?"
"Word is, Selina’s too stubborn to return. The Morris Family’s trying to teach her a lesson."
Across the room, Grandma Morris escorted Sandy like a socialite, greeting every important guest and making connections left and right.
Joe was looking for Selina. When he finally spotted her and was about to approach, Sandy suddenly hurried over.
"Uncle, Mr. Martin wanted to speak with you earlier. When I saw you weren’t around, I went in your place to..."
Mid-sentence, Sandy noticed Joe’s displeased expression—and then, as if only just realizing Selina was there, she bit her lip and added softly, "Uncle, don’t worry about me... You should go talk to Selina. She’s been sitting all alone. You’ve been so good to me—I don’t want her to hate the Morris Family even more because of it..."
"What nonsense," Grandma Morris cut in, frowning.
"Selina refuses to come back to the Morris Family, and now we can’t even be nice to Sandy?"
She snapped at Joe, "Stop staring at Selina! She’ll get the wrong idea and start thinking she can call the shots!"
What Grandma Morris really wanted was for Selina to grovel her way back into the Morris Family. She wondered, with perverse satisfaction, what Victoria would think if she saw her daughter begging for the family’s approval.
The thought made her even more eager for what came next.
"Come on, Joe. The Browns just arrived—we need to go offer a toast."
Selina had also noticed Joe, but didn’t care enough to acknowledge him.
She was on the phone, her foot tapping anxiously.
It was Mrs. Brown calling.
"Selina, I’ve arranged a crystal carriage for your entrance. When you step out of it, you’ll be the star of the night!"
Selina: "..."
Thanks... but I’m pretty sure I’m going to die of secondhand embarrassment.
