Martial Peak - Rise Of The Human Emperor-Chapter 98-Echoes of a Guilty Heart!
Chapter 98 - 98-Echoes of a Guilty Heart!
After the storm, they both snuggled together, too embarrassed to speak.
It was not that they were embarrassed to talk to each other. They were embarrassed by their long indulgence, forgetting that Xia Ning Chang was just lying beside them until they were about to end. All that time, she was only an arm length's away! It was only fortunate that she was unconscious, allowing both lovers to rejoice but with lingering fear.
Su Yan and Yang Kai did not know why but while they were cultivating, all their attention was focused each other. Their minds did not even concern themselves with Xia Ning Chang. Hugging his beautiful beloved to his chest, Yang Kai spoke, "Su Yan, I think that this problem is only between the both of us..."
"Mhm..." Su Yan nodded slightly, her hair tickling Yang Kai's chest.
"I believe this is due to the Yin-Yang Joyous Unification Art. Whenever we try to cultivate, we cannot help but think of each other. Since you have been cultivating, your mind must be filled with thoughts of me!"
Su Yan gently hit Yang Kai's chest as though blaming him for speaking out so casually.
"I have not been cultivating so much... so my urges are not as strong as yours." Yang Kai spoke truth. So far, he has been cultivating using the exotic fragrance from the incense. Since the fragrance suppressed his cultivation, the urge from the Yin-Yang Joyous Unification Art is not as overwhelming on him as it is on Su Yan.
"Evidently, we are doomed to be bound together," Yang Kai gave a happy smile.
"We cannot leave it like this!" Su Yan spoke out firmly. "As long as we are in close proximity of each other, we can't help thinking of each other."
"Well, what do you suggest?"
"We need to suppress it. Entirely. We cannot let the Yin Yang Joyous Unification Art take control of us. We need to be the ones in control of it, not the other way around!" Su Yan spoke with utter determination in her voice. She turned to gently look at Yang Kai, "I know it's cruel, but it's the only way for us."
"I know..." Yang Kai nods with a serious look plastered on his face.
"If you truly cannot suppress the urges, you can look to release it with other women," Su Yan's long eyelashes slightly shivered but her face remained serious.
Yang Kai's face twitched. He tried to act noble.
"No, I'm not a pervert!"
Su Yan slowly shook her head, "You don't understand... when the urges emerge, the unbearable pain that occurs without you beside me... I looked for you two days ago, but I noticed Junior Sister Xia hiding nearby. Unable to bear it any further, I knocked her out... I just hope she won't be angry at me when she wakes up."
"Is it that bad?" Yang Kai's brows wrinkled. He was aware of Su Yan's temperament and willpower. For a pure and cold woman like her to seek him out, she must have truly reached the limit of her endurance.
"It's overwhelming, both physically and mentally. I couldn't stop trembling," Su Yan's voice turned even sterner, "I understand this, so I'm not against you looking for another woman to deal with your urges."
Yang Kai tried to act noble—very noble—but his eyes betrayed him .
"I mean... if you're offering permission, shouldn't we draft a contract or something?" he joked, forcing a cough as Su Yan glared at him.
"Just kidding! Just kidding!" he added quickly, holding up his hands in surrender.
Su Yan couldn't help but smile, even if she rolled her eyes. "Idiot."
Su Yan shrunk closer to Yang Kai's chest as her eyes landed on the female on the other side. "Junior Sister Xia is a good candidate. I believe that she truly cares for you, and although her face is covered with a veil, there is no doubt that she is astonishingly beautiful. Furthermore, she's not weak, not to mention that she's kind and gentle. You should get closer to her, let her stay in your embrace to comfort you when I'm not here..."
Yang Kai's expression froze. He cleared his throat and gently pulled Su Yan a little tighter into his arms.
"Please say no more..." he said solemnly, "I fear the consequences can be... far more dire than you think."
Su Yan blinked. "What do you—"
Yang Kai gave her a serious look, then glanced meaningfully at the stone bed, then at her messy robes, and then at the still-unconscious Xia Ning Chang.
"I mean... another round and she might wake up in the middle this time. I don't think my heart can take that kind of scandal."
Su Yan's cheeks flushed deep red as she smacked his chest with the back of her hand. "Scoundrel!"
------------------------
They hugged each other into the night, chatting about their experiences and little secrets. Laughter and quiet murmurs filled the stone hut, time melting away in their closeness. Four days passed like a blink, and finally, Su Yan slowly sat up, reaching for her robes.
"I should leave now," she whispered. Though her voice was calm, both knew that her leaving always tugged at the heartstrings — a trial of will and longing they had grown painfully familiar with.
"Wait a moment!" Yang Kai suddenly pointed to the far corner of the hut, where a scraggly little root was barely peeking out of the soil — the Yin Yang Monster Ginseng.
Before she could ask, Yang Kai added with a straight face, "Take it with you. I don't have time to babysit that cranky root."
Su Yan blinked, then burst into a rare giggle. "You're passing it off like it's a child."
"It throws tantrums like one," Yang Kai muttered. "Last week it tried to root itself into my back. I'm not risking another ambush during meditation."
Su Yan chuckled softly and nodded, walking over to gently pluck the ginseng with practiced care. The little root wiggled like it was sulking.
Afterwards, Su Yan hugged Yang Kai, She enjoyed his embrace for a short while, letting the warmth of his chest seep into her heart.
Then, with a soft sigh, she stood up and turned around to leave.
As Su Yan's silhouette began to fade beyond the cave's misty entrance, Yang Kai suddenly jumped to his feet. "Wait! Su Yan!"
She turned, her robe fluttering slightly in the wind. "Yes?"
Yang Kai squinted toward the stone bed where Xia Ning Chang was still curled up, not a single twitch in five days. "When exactly is Junior Sister going to wake up? Did you feed her something strange? She's been out like a log... it's been five days already! Did you drug her with beast tranquilizer or something?"
Su Yan blinked, then raised a brow, completely unfazed. "Relax. I only gave her a calming medication to keep her spiritual energy from reacting violently after I... well, knocked her out. She'll wake at dawn."
She gave him a mysterious smile, one foot already stepping back into the mist.
"Take care of her, alright?" Su Yan's voice was softer now, almost like a whisper meant only for the mountain breeze.
Yang Kai nodded instinctively, but before he could respond, she added with a strange look in her eyes, "And... if you must comfort her... be gentle. She's still innocent."
"Wait—what does that mean!?" Yang Kai called out, but Su Yan was already gone.
Only the fading rustle of her robes and the scent of cold orchids lingered behind, like a ghost of her presence.
----------------------------------------------
As Su Yan walked down the misty path, the warmth of Yang Kai's embrace lingered around her, like a comforting cloak she couldn't quite shed. Though she had left, part of her stayed with him—the man she had come to cherish more than she had ever imagined. Her eyes lifted, catching a glimpse of the faint moonlight as it peeked through the shifting clouds.
Junior Sister Xia... she thought, her heart tight. She's so pure, so gentle. I can see how deeply she cares for him, I've witnessed it in her eyes.
A flutter of something stirred in her chest at the thought. She had seen it with her own eyes.
Why didn't I bring her with me?
The answer came swiftly—Because I chose to leave her behind. For Yang Kai's sake.
Her heart ached as she imagined leaving a sleeping girl behind, hoping—no, believing—that Yang Kai would hold her the same way he had held Su Yan.
Is that love? Or am I simply trying to quiet the guilt in my heart?
But there was no jealousy, no bitterness—only understanding.

Su Yan shook her head gently, as though trying to clear away the fog that clouded her thoughts.
No... I trust him. I know he won't take advantage. But... maybe... just maybe...
A soft sigh escaped her lips. "I hope you find happiness in him, Junior Sister," she whispered to the wind. The words felt like a prayer to herself as much as to Xia Ning Chang. Su Yan didn't know what the future held, but she had faith that things would unfold as they were meant to.
With that, she took another steady step forward, her heart lighter now, at peace with her decision.
