Marvel: Master Of Role-Playing-Chapter 156: Logan Comes to Rescue
Chapter 156 - Logan Comes to Rescue
Ororo, who could control lightning at will, naturally possessed reaction speed to match.
The moment she sensed someone launching a sneak attack from behind, her entire body spun like a whirlwind, swift and fierce. But unlike the pure wind of Riptide, Ororo was surrounded by both violent gusts and crackling lightning that danced wildly around her.
Then the attack finally arrived.
An arrow, tipped with high-powered explosives, hurtled through the storm. Caught in the churning winds, it spun violently as the detonation timer ticked down.
Almost simultaneously, Deathstroke emerged from the trees. With both blades in hand, he slashed straight toward Ororo.
Now, she had only two choices.
One was to manipulate the storm and send the explosive arrow skyward. That would keep her safe from the blast. But doing so would also mean losing her protective barrier, leaving her exposed to the incoming strike.
The other option was to gather the storm tightly around herself and charge straight at Deathstroke. If she chose that, then under the destructive force of the storm, even someone like him would suffer serious injuries. But at the same time, with the explosive arrow about to detonate, she wouldn't escape unscathed either.
There was no time to weigh the options. Acting on instinct, Ororo unleashed everything she had.
The storm swirling her suddenly surged upward, hurling the explosive arrow into the sky. A deafening blast followed, so powerful that it tore a hole straight through the surrounding clouds.
As for Deathstroke's attack, Ororo had no choice but to face it head-on.
Lightning surged through her body and struck toward him. It wasn't nearly as powerful as what she could unleash at full strength, but right now, it was the only way she could protect herself.
The bolt hit Deathstroke, and this time, the armor that had been ineffective during previous battles finally did its job.
Made of Promethium alloy, the armor could absorb surrounding energy to repair itself. Clearly, the lightning Ororo released in desperation hadn't exceeded the metal's threshold.
The energy was absorbed in an instant, and Deathstroke's twin blades came crashing down.
"Ah!!!"
With a scream of pain, two deep, crossing wounds were left on Ororo's chest.
If she hadn't used a sudden gust of wind to lift herself backward at the last moment, those blades would've sliced her into four pieces.
Deathstroke landed smoothly and stared down at her, struggling to stand up.
"Just as I thought. You mutants are nothing but trouble."
He didn't rush in to finish her off. Though she was clearly badly wounded, as long as her mutant powers remained, she could still erupt with dangerous strength at any moment.
That was a warning from Reid, and Deathstroke took it to heart.
So instead of attacking, he sheathed his weapons and pulled out a remote. He aimed it at Ororo, who was now gritting her teeth and staggering toward the jet.
"But this time, you're not getting away."
He pressed the button.
The next second, a massive explosion erupted from inside the aircraft. The intense heat and shockwave sent Ororo flying, slamming her hard into the frozen ground.
"Ah! When did this happen?!"
It was obvious the jet had been rigged with explosives. But what she couldn't understand was when they had been planted. She hadn't noticed a thing.
After landing, she had summoned a blizzard to conceal the jet. With Charles secretly helping, there shouldn't have been any way for someone to locate the jet.
Deathstroke didn't know what Ororo was thinking, but he knew exactly how he had found the jet.
The blizzard she summoned had blocked satellite scans and masked it from human sight. Charles had been on constant alert, preventing Reid from reading any thoughts or pulling information from Ororo's mind.
But what they didn't know was that Reid had more than just telepathy.
Superman wasn't the only one with enhanced vision. Martian Manhunter also had similar abilities. And Reid—he had already mastered them.
Ororo and Charles had no idea. Because of that, they made a critical mistake.
Now, with her way out destroyed, Ororo was in real danger.
And if she were to die here, Charles would lose another key ally. Aside from Jean, who was growing more selfish by the day, all he'd have left were a group of mutants who hadn't even grown up yet.
...
Elsewhere, Logan, who had been driving off, also heard the commotion in the distance. He caught a glimpse of the storm that flared up briefly before vanishing in an explosion.
"An ambush?"
He didn't need any extra intel to guess what had happened. He already had a pretty good idea of the situation Ororo was in.
These mutants had their ambitions, and they'd been pushed to the edge. Logan never believed for a second that no one was targeting them from behind the scenes.
And Ororo's decision to come looking for him had landed her in danger.
Logan's grip on the steering wheel slowly tightened. He didn't even notice the engine had gone quiet.
He might not have shared the same ideals as Ororo and the others, but in the end, they were still the same kind. And it was because of him that she had stepped out and been spotted.
He couldn't just sit back and do nothing.
"When am I ever gonna stop sticking my nose where it doesn't belong?"
Logan let out a deep sigh, then kicked open the door and took off toward the forest where the fighting had broken out.
...
On the other side, Ororo was already on the brink of death.
After using the explosion to severely wound her again, Deathstroke began firing different types of weapons to wear her down.
At first, she could still summon lightning and storms to deflect the bullets. But as her stamina drained and blood loss worsened, she no longer had the strength to use her powers.
Facing a defenseless opponent, Deathstroke drew his blades once more and advanced for the final strike.
'Is this the end?' Ororo thought bitterly as she dropped to her knees, eyes shut in frustration.
Her powers were strong, far stronger than this mercenary in front of her. But one surprise attack was all it took for a powerful mutant like her to be brought down.
She was unwilling to accept it. She still wanted to see the day when mutants could stand proud in this world. But now, that dream was slipping away.
Just as the tip of the blade was about to pierce her, Logan burst through, throwing himself in front of Ororo. He used his own body to shield her, letting the blade stab straight into his heart.
"Hmm?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Deathstroke was startled by Logan's sudden appearance, but he quickly regained focus. Without hesitation, he carried out the task Reid had assigned long ago. He swiftly pulled out a vial and collected Logan's dripping blood, then pulled out his katana.
"Kh...!"
Logan also dropped to his knees, his vision beginning to blur. But he didn't panic, he was waiting for his healing factor to kick in, to repair the damage to his pierced heart.
Until he heard Deathstroke's next words.
"What are you waiting for? Forgot to tell you. This blade's wounds suppress healing factors."
"What?!"
