Chapter 2823: 2823. Ancient Survivors

’Great tundra wolf

This monster is one of the largest and fiercest pack monsters known to exist within the tundra. It is often prided for the loyalty it shows its pack to the point that it will sacrifice itself for the survival of the younger generation. There have even been accounts in ancient journals about an entire pack perishing so that a single litter of pups could survive.

Due to the extremely high affinity for ice, they always seek out the coldest and most frigid environments. If one were to follow the flow of denser water mana with high enough purity to a naturally formed water rune in ice form, then there is a high chance these monsters would make their den around it.

While some tamers have attempted to tame these monsters, it always ends with the tamer running for their lives or death. This is because this is a species of monster intelligent enough to understand when it is not being treated fairly or equally.

While still a distance from being considered an intelligent race, the great tundra wolf species could be said to be on the cusp after many generations of survival and struggle to adapt. They even survived the breakdown of mana flow due to the changes in the elemental bridges to the elemental planes.

Their fur, bones, meat, claws, and teeth could all be considered valuable materials for various forms of crafting or alchemy. They even could be made as art pieces that naturally attract a high amount of cold water mana around them. Which has been done by those who have hunted them, not that many exist in the current world.

They have a vast territory of hunting lands where they act as both predator and protectors. Their territory is often left untouched by some larger monsters due to their incredibly brilliant pack hunting style and the ability to bite and freeze chunks of their opponents using the frigid ice mana they utilize.

Their ice mana is derived from water mana purely and not from a mix of wind and water, meaning that they have a higher purity of water mana within their bodies than most of the world possesses when not taking places connected to a bridge to the water elemental plane center in to account.

Communicating with them can be extremely difficult since body language and actions come with an innate connection between one another that other species or races can not copy easily or well. They will often evaluate prey or other beings with intense scrutiny to determine if they are a threat to...’

The appraisal didn’t just give Walker a little information. It threw so much at him that he couldn’t process it for the tiniest fraction of a second. His brain was taking the information and grasping the fact that the all around appraisal had done more than just given him information he needed.

It was like the world’s will had somewhat intervened to show him more information about this species of monster struggling in dangerous environments for beyond just a few generations. This was a monster tempered by the world tried and true without break down even despite the most dangerous of changes and shifts the world went through.

This monster existed and had been growing toward becoming a race for the longest of any that Walker had seen or even heard of. It hadn’t been bothered by another intelligent race since ancient times, and even in those times, they were a pack species that could hold their own. Could even make larger, more dangerous monsters flee from them.

The grand tundra wolves that spotted him began to move around him slowly. They weren’t growling or anything, their deep blue eyes just watched him. They were examining every aspect of what he was and how he had suddenly appeared from the sky without warning. Right in the middle of their den and the most important life saving location they had lived in for generations.

The naturally formed ice rune was a remnant of ancient times that came to be because of an attack by a larger and more deadly monster fighting a different monster. Both had left behind remnants and this rune formed because of their battle. It gave them both safe haven from the changing world but also allowed for them to survive.

While they did not keep records, their blood remembered. Their bloodline knew the value and safety of this place and this rune. It also knew that the best place for their pups to grow was beside it. That they could hunt from here while their elderly were able to rest safely and slumber when the time came.

This was their homeland and their anchor. Now it was touched by a being that was not them. They were not prepared to fight something capable of showing up here and every single great tundra wolf was uneasy. They didn’t show it though, Walker couldn’t see it either, he could just assume. He also realized that the largest mass under snow was already moving and standing many heads taller than him.

’Fenrir wolf

This is a species of great tundra wolf that was able to awaken the bloodline of Fenrir passed down within their species. Changing its species and enhancing its intelligence even further to bond with and lead the great tundra wolves safely. It has unprecedented ice abilities while also being extraordinarily powerful physically.

When the ancient monster Fenrir walked the tundras of the world, it was believed that if it leaped up it could swallow the glowing moon and even the glowing sun...’

Walker understood that this wolf might know more and might be able to understand him better if he tried to speak or move. But something also sparked in his mind.

"I am going to give you a quest, you and your whole pack."

Walker had the ability to give a quest, so why not recruit this species of monster that lived within a pack and was working toward becoming a race slowly but surely? Yes it had taken them many years to advance to some degree and they had to live here to be safe and comfortable, but they could defend themselves. Even from threats that were extinct.

Meaning that they would be the best protectors for the fairy dragon that had just spilled out in front of him as the final piece of the set Walker wore turned to dust and drifted away in a chilly wind.

He looked at the herbs taking root and the sudden flow of mana being drawn toward seven eggs and two sleeping fairy dragons with deep blue scales glimmering like icebergs in the sun. He felt that the connection with that rune was clear and anchored. It wouldn’t move but it was like a parent nurturing a child now.

"I need you to protect them and let them go into the whole world. The world needs them, and your people will benefit from it as well. I will always be open to being called on by yourself or the leader of your pack. So use it if you are in need. It is not an item or education, it is protection as the world changes. I will make your territory off limits to all explorers. You can allow them in or force them out. My people will respect your borders."

While Walker didn’t know if this was understood, the quest should work since this larger wolf had higher intelligence and had to have some form of interaction with the world and the system governing all things. It was also why he felt that this was the best way to help both the wolves and the fairy dragons.

They would have protection both from the outside world and also from the greatest risk associated with the tundra like environment here. It would be an ideal and Walker just had to offer whatever was in his power if needed.

Seemingly, a glint of ice slickered around the Fenrir world proving it had begun to prepare an attack if needed after Walker sent a quest its way. "I can also use some buffs to spur the life mana of those pups. It should help them awaken the same bloodline you achieved. They can grow in to it strengthening your entire pack and its future."

This froze every wolf. Now Walker was certain that the leader understood them and mentally communicated with its pack. That the quest in question had reached it and it understood the promise of help and growth. That the being who appeared came prepared to offer whatever necessary to them.

Out of respect and hard earned strength, the Fenrir wolf moved closer to Walker and small ice needles formed on its fur. When it leaned in and sniffed him, the ice needles tried to scratch against his skin but didn’t leave a mark. It had been testing his resolve and strength as well.

The only question was, what would be the answer? Would the quest he offered be accepted?
