Chapter 282: I Can’t Help But Love You

[RANIA]

"I can’t reject you."

"Why not."

"Rani–"

"If you are going to be a coward then at least face me while at it."

"R–"

"Why can’t you fucking reject me?"

"Bu–"

"Why?!"

"Because I’m not your mate anymore, okay????" Jihoon said frustratedly as he looked at the woman he loved so much.

It was breaking him, seeing her desperately wishing for the worst. It made him feel like he had been useless all this time and here and now, the universe was carelessly proving it to him again. What the hell was he even supposed to do with this information?

How the hell was he supposed to make up for what had happened?

The shock on Rania’s face was evident, the surprise so clear as she faltered. She hadn’t expected this when she came here. She had come to give him a chance, a choice to live a free life, but realizing that he wasn’t mated to her?

Rania wasn’t sure how she could handle that, and for the first time since she had braved the cold hallways and made it to the dungeons, she felt sincerely and utterly confused. This was a situation like no other and she needed to think.

"You don’t have to lie about it. I get it. Don’t worry, Jun. You can reject me alright?" Rani said after a short silence.

She couldn’t think straight, she couldn’t comprehend what was happening really and she wanted answers. Her mate looked terrible and she felt guilty for coming to him in the night. Perhaps she would be open to having a discussion in the morning, right?

"Or I can come back in the morning if this is a bad time, right? I will come back before the party starts. About the party, you will come, yeah?" Rania said, and Jihoon felt his heart shattering again. Even with everything out there she still was looking out for him.

He knew she cared about him so much it was impossible for her to make sense of what was happening, but then what he had said was really the truth.

Jihoon wasn’t Rania’s mate, at least not anymore.

"The midnight moon changed your fate, Rania. You don’t have to be so stupid all the time you know," Yanna’s voice suddenly piped up and Rania let out a low growl in warning.

She had been used to obsessing about Jihoon, caring about him from a distance, but now that this was happening, now that she could be free, she felt suffocated.

This wasn’t how she had hoped that things would be but goddamn, what else was she supposed to do anyway, right?

"Shut the fuck up before I separate your neck from your head," Rania wanted and Yanna stepped back in surrender, though that didn’t stop her. She knew what had happened an she loved that Rani was getting frustrated.

However, here and now, she was also worried, because if Jihoon wasn’t Rania’s mate, then who the fuck was her mate?

"Don’t mind her, Rani. Go, get some rest. And be happy alright. I wish you all the best and I’m truly sorry for all the pain I caused you knowingly and unknowingly," Jihoon said, adding the last bit as he looked at Yanna.

He was and that things had gotten to this point, but he was glad that Rania would have someone on the other side.

He could only hope that her mate would care for her.

"I... No way. I... Excuse me," Rania fumbled as she literally ran through the hallways and made her way out of the dungeons.

She had never thought that this would happen. It was easier having Jihoon on her side and as her enemy, because at least this was an evil she knew.

Rania knew she would definitely be getting and new mate today because she had reclaimed the alpha title.

She had to have someone to lead Incayon with, but with Jihoon not beginning her mate, she was once again reduced to the scared little girl who was scared of rejection. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

What was she supposed to do?

When she made it to the front office of the pack house, Rania let out a long sigh. She had never thought this was possible, but it was happening, and that made her feel like the world was about to reject her again.

If Incayon knew she didn’t have a mate, if they knew that she was truly abandoned by the fates this time, they would never be able to listen to her or even respect her. She would be reduced to the girl who didn’t have anyone again.

"No, please, no," Rania whimpered defeatedly as she walked out of the pack house. She needed to take a breather. She needed to be away from everything. She needed to be out and away and if that was the only thing for her, she needed to make a run for it.

The night was cold as fuck, but that was nothing compared to the anxiety that was once again hitting her. She could feel the mindlinks closing.

She could feel the air constricting in her lungs, and she could feel the warrs watching her like she was just another stranger to them. She had become a rogue once again. Maybe she didn’t have to be there.

Maybe she just needed to take a leave from whatever the fuck was happening here. Oh, but Rani was scared shitless. She looked at the field that her friends had spent three days decorating and making it fit for her.

She looked at how the lighting was done, and at how they had made modifications to make her birthday special again.

Rania could see the chaos that would ensue when the morning came and she was worried that she would never be first. She was worried that nothing would ever be the same anymore.

And so she made a run for the Incayon gates.

She couldn’t just be here anymore.

Anywhere was suddenly better than here. Oh, Rani.

"What happened to her?" one of the hybrids asked as he looked at the woman who was running in their direction. They could tell that she was determined to leave, but then the only people who could be that determined to leave Incayon were the prisoners.

Given right now all they could see was a woman determined to leave the pack, they figured it had to be either Yanna or Eunbi.

The werewolf queen wouldn’t go anywhere without her son, because she loved that boy so much, that she wouldn’t be able to live off her Jungwoo left. And as long as Jungwoo was in the dungeons, everyone was sure the werewolf queen would leave.

That in itself left them with only one option.

The psycho hybrid who had been nothing but a pain in their asses.

The woman who had wanted to kill one too many times.

Standing there and alert, the chance to eliminate her had finally presented itself to them.

"I’m only going to say this once. Stand down and stop running or I will be forced to kill you," Raqeeb warned, but Rania’s fear and desperation weren’t about to let her listen. She couldn’t even understand what Raqeeb was saying.

So he shot a spear at her leg, before he rushed to meet her halfway, his sword slicing through her stomach, making her fall to the ground, dead.

Kim Rania of Incayon, was dead.
