Chapter 283: The Haunting Realization [1]

[Three Hours Ago]

[KAIA]

Coming from the people’s palace with the people he had been sent to retrieve, Kaia Seto sensed a change in the atmosphere, something that instantly turned his humanity on without even giving him a chance to think and try to understand what the fuck was going on.

’The hell?’ the bastard of the bastards asked himself, as he tried to understand what was happening. It was like Incayon had been a series of triggers, and sure it was, but this was one that he had never anticipated. It was even harder for him to explain it to himself.

So he chose to pretend, but it was too clear, too obvious to him it was almost suffocating him. Looking at his warriors and the people he had come with, Kaia wasn’t sure how this was supposed to play out.

He had been a strategist and yet right at that moment, he wasn’t sure what the hell was expected of him. Was the goddess playing games with him? Surely his creator wouldn’t be that cruel to him, right?

However, did he deserve redemption?

He was Kaia Seto after all. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

’Fuck this,’ Kaia said as he got himself back in position, ready to do whatever was expected. He was haunted by the possibilities that were swarming his brain and if he wasn’t careful, he could fall down and that would be another explanation waiting for him.

What was he to do?

It was strange, way too strange and to cover up the fact that something had changed, he tried his very best to remain the inhumane beast they had known.

’For Haru,’ Kaia encouraged himself as he looked at his brother, the man who had been his unbiased and unyielding anchor to humanity for years on end.

His brother had triggered his loss of humanity because that was the only way to make sure Kaisei did the job without any distractions. And now that Kaia was back, covered in blood from head to toe, it was clear he had completed his mission.

However, Kaia also noticed that his brother didn’t seem ready to flip his humanity switch back on, which was very understandable, and clearly something that has never once bothered the bastard Kaia.

Kaisei Chihiro had never hidden a secret from his brother except that one time with Bangchan years ago. But that was a long time and so much had also changed with them.

However, standing there as he stared at his brother and his friends, as he listened to them be happy that the first of the tough missions was done, Kaia wondered what could have triggered his humanity.

In the world of love and hate, in the hybrid house Seto that had been riddled with curses and anger, there was only one person who could change the course of anyone’s life, whether beast or human.

And that was their beloved.

However, Kaia had never once thought of getting a beloved, because he believed he would never get one, ever and that was okay with him. He had never tried to even look for one. He had never tried to make things right for him.

’No way,’ Kaia thought as he felt his heart be excited about the littlest of things.

It was almost like the world was just a playground and his heart was the one at the center, dancing along. But the uncaring heart was an instrument that Kaisei had never once put to good use, ever.

Kaia didn’t have a heart patient enough to give him a beloved, and for years he had remained unbothered by it. Besides it was a nonissue for him so this wasn’t going to be the first time he let this happen.

There was a lot he was working on as an individual, but his humanity had surely never been one of them. It was then that the haunting realization hit him.

Somewhere in Incayon, he got a beloved.

In the midst of the chaos that was and had to be embraced, Kaisei had gotten someone who was meant for him. This was extremely unsettling for him. He had never wanted it and there was just no reason for the goddess to grant a wish that he didn’t want.

It sounded pretty cruel to him and he despised it.

Like a way to pin him down. This wasn’t a choice he would have made and he despised the goddess for giving him a beloved.

However, he didn’t focus on it. He had to remind his brother that he would always be what Haru wanted him to be.

And so he pretended to be without his humanity, even as they continued with the evening, preparing for Kim Rani’s birthday.

Kaia was silent most of the time and if he didn’t have two beasts that coordinated inside him, his friends would have known he was bothered, and that to him didn’t seem like a good idea at the moment.

He just wanted to figure out this beloved shit on his own, and he could tell that it was going to be a little more challenging than he anticipated. But that was okay, right?

So that night when he went to bed like everyone else, who was excited for Rania’s birthday the next day, Kaisei decided to figure out who his beloved was. He was desperate for answers and he wasn’t going to let go.

He would find his beloved.

’I must find that beloved,’ Kaia said to himself as he got up to go on a crazy mission. But then he was always crazy, so this didn’t even seem surprising anymore right? After all, wasn’t it normal for him to be psychotic?

Like a psycho, Kaisei seto sniffed everyone in the whole of Incayon, both male and female not leaving even the elders of the great pack. He was an anomaly, so he wouldn’t be shocked that he would be paired with one of the people from old times.

That didn’t matter to him anyway.

It wasn’t like they could do shit to him, right?

’Focus on the mission Kaisei,’ the barbarian reminded himself when he felt himself zone out.

He had made himself invisible and had ensured that no one would ever be able to get his scent, not even Luna Kim Hyejin, the moon goddess’s sister whose life force Kaia could sense was withering.

It was like a challenge that didn’t have a winner and while he was curious why the luna of Incayon seemed to be at her life’s end, Kaia focused on his mission. He didn’t want to think of what that would mean for Rania, and he hated it.

He hated that she would lose someone again, but Kaia shook his head as if to pretend like he didn’t just sense that the Incayon Luna would die soon. It was crazy, probably more than he had ever thought possible.

After three hours of sniffing people including the prisoners in the dungeons, not to mention the Calindra wolves and the royals, Kaia came up empty. There wasn’t a hint as to how his beloved was and that was driving him nuts.

This wasn’t what he had signed up for, not like this, and certainly not in Incayon of all the godforsaken places.

’Fuck, what should I do now?... Maybe I could go to Haru,’ Kaia thought to himself and he heard a snort so close like the person had heard his thoughts.
