Chapter 312: The Scraps of Hope? [4]

[OBREN] 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

In silence, the brothers made their way to the people’s palace.

Bai Ting may have been unfamiliar with the place, but Nathaniel had been born and raised in Obren.

He had lived here for the better part of his teenage life and he had made friends while at it. Though the most important thing trite now, was that he knew the routes and the shortcuts to any place here.

"There’s a clothes reservoir ahead. We will change there and then continue with our journey," King Nathaniel said to his brother who was still cooped up, trying to imagine what they had gotten themselves into.

"Well that is something I never knew was possible on this side of the realm," Bai said earnestly and his brother just led the way.

They both had a lot to think about. And they were trying to process Calindra in their own way. It wasn’t the most pleasant of things, but there wasn’t a choice for them anyway.

"Old habits... You’d probably consider them tradition," Nate explained.

It didn’t take long for them to get to the reservoir. There were a lot of clothes there and they all had wolf accents on them. This was the perfect cover-up for a hybrid vampire king and a vampire who knew nothing of the werewolf traditions.

Sifting through the basket in the reservoir the brothers got clothes that fit them well. They may have been dirty and old clothes, but they would serve the purpose well, especially since they wanted to come off as wolves too.

Nate had rubbed his werewolf scent on his brother so it would be easier for them to mingle with any wolf that they came across white they wear on their way to the most protected place of all time. The Obren people’s palace.

"Well I must admit, this place is a beauty, even if we’re going through shortcuts. Makes me wonder how the actual palace looks during the day," Bai Ting said as he took in the scent of life around them.

Unlike Drarun that had near-death everything, Obren was bustling with life even on its side. It was like the best thing they could have come across and right now Bai Ting, who had never set foot in the werewolf kingdom, wanted to stay here a little longer.

He was definitely loving Obren even though they hadn’t even gotten the best bit of it. He couldn’t be blamed though, because on a good day, Obrne was easily the best definition of heaven.

It was the largest kingdom in the whole of the realm and it was perfect on so many fonts. Funny how that beauty managed to get through to their hearts, because they had made a monster, one who didn’t have anything left to lose anymore.

"I hear voices, easy there," Nate whispered, stopping his brother in the process. This was the first sign of people that they had gotten after walking for an hour. It was strange, but then that was probably to be blamed on the mess that Calindra had been left in.

No one wanted to linger around and get the rough end of the stick from the woman who could burn them down in so many ways. That was a reality so bitter, but it was one nonetheless.

"It sounds like a group of wolves," Bai Ting equally whispered to his brother. They were high on alert and they knew they had to find a common ground.

"Looks like normal wolves. They are heading somewhere, though they don’t seem to want a fight. That should be good for both of us, given the situation we are in," Nate said as he walked closer to count the number of people there.

Just like vampires, werewolves had super hearing and had certainly heard the brothers in there; however, they didn’t seem to mind, because they were busy on their way to wherever they were going.

It was like nothing mattered anymore and that got Nate curious. He had never seen nonchalant wolves who weren’t even worried about their lives.

The only reason for that could be the possibility that they had seen a worse demon and had dealt with a worse devil than the two brothers who were hiding in the woods waiting for them to pass.

"Let’s go with them," Bai Ting suggested, making his brother look at him like he was insane.

The wolves may have looked harmless, but then this was Obren, and all the wolves were well-trained for war from the moment they hit thirteen years old.

It was for the safety of packs, like in the event of cases like Calindra’s because there had to be warriors who could keep the survivors in their packs going. It was a rule and every pack had followed it from the old times.

"Yeah sounds like a good idea," Nate said before he and his brother got out and walked slowly behind the wolves. They could tell that the wolves didn’t care about them, even though they had been hearing them.

For a moment, it made Nate wonder whether they were also victims of Rania.

He wanted to ask them so many questions about the woman who had broken his heart twice, but then he had to remind himself that they were here because of Yanagida Seto, their only hope of making sure Kaia helped them with the battle.

Oh but if only they knew the truth that was waiting for them. It was a haunting one, but also a truth that would wake them up from whatever reality they had been thriving in over the years.

"Hey brothers, excuse me. Can we talk for a minute?" Nate voiced when he saw that the wolves had increased their speeds.

It was strange and he wanted to think that he wasn’t the reason for that, but a part of him felt like his citation wasn’t exactly what they had been aspiring for. It was crazy because he hadn’t done shit, and yet they were running.

He had masked his scent, he had hidden the fact that he was a vampire king, and he had made sure that no one would be able to tell. But then, for a people that had seen and felt the wrath of the hybrids in one go, they were on the right to run away from Nate and his brother.

"We don’t want any trouble. We just have some questions," Bai Ting said and the wolves ignored them.

This wasn’t what they had expected and for a moment, Bai Ting wondered if he could grab one of them hostage and get what he wanted, but he also knew it would blow their chances of being normal in a kingdom that was not normal in any case.

"Yeah, right, says every hybrid ever," one of them said and that got Nate wondering what they meant.

What had the hybrids done to these wolves to get them into this situation? They had tried to think back to Luna Park’s letter but there hadn’t been a mention of hybrids. So it was just impossible that they were talking about Nate, right?

"I don’t know what you mean, but if you could please tell us what happened to Calindra, we would really appreciate it," Nate said and the wolves just sighed. It was clear that they were going to have a long conversation if they didn’t deal with this right now.

And they weren’t ready to be followed by the two.

"Look, we’re sorry for whatever we did, or we didn’t do. Hybrids are killing off wolves and we just don’t want to be collateral. We don’t want any trouble, alright. We’ll be on our way," the representative of those wolves said and Nate sighed defeatedly.

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

"We are just requesting answers. We don’t want any trouble, I swear. We have been away from home for a while and when we came back, we were met with emptiness. Obren feels like a hell hole and I’m not sure what happened.

"You guys are the first sign of life we have net in over seventy miles. So please, we come in peace," Bai Ting said and they looked at him skeptically.

They were not sure whether to trust the brothers and they were right to be that skeptical. These weren’t normal brothers and they could mean hell for anyone who truly knew who they truly were, away from Obren.

"Well in that case, if you know what’s best for you, then run. We are also running, because the butcher is after us."
