Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 322: In Which The Universe Fought For Her
[OBREN]
"You all are not helping. Rania’s mate bond with Jihoon is broken. And the Calindra alpha had long given up the bond. Okay? Now can we get back on course?" Brent said, instantly shutting up the pack alphas who were on opposite sides when it came to Rania.
There was so much that they were being bombarded with at the moment and frankly, they were right to be worried about their future and their safety.
None of this was making any sense to them at this moment; and the sooner they faced that, the sooner they would get a right bearing. But where was that bearing?
What were they supposed to do when each word that they heard that night, was making them wonder if there was any truth to anything or anyone on Obren?
There were so many secrets lingering in the air, secrets that could bring down civilizations and yet the longer they sat around each other, the more they realized that they all were the cruelest bunch of people.
They knew nothing of humanity and who appreciated nothing. It was crazy what they had been reduced to, but goddamn, the universe was a master at chess, especially with them.
"How the hell is that even possible? Unless I don’t know the Obren rules, isn’t it that when a wolf reaches twenty-five years old, they’re forced to mate with their given mate no matter what happened between them as long as they are still unmated?" King Nathaniel asked and the pack alphas looked at him as if to ask the man what fuck he just meant.
The vampire king sounded like he had been stuck under some gutter and was slowly trying to map out which section of life he would have to deal with. But then that wasn’t what they needed at the moment.
"What Nathaniel is trying to say is that mates are forced to be together at twenty-five as long as they are not mated to another," Brent explained and the alphas nodded in defeat.
There wasn’t a thing that made sense to them and they knew it would take a while before their brains came to terms with their current situations. But maybe, just maybe, there was a reason for all this, right?
Maybe at the end of the day, the end would justify the means to get there, no? However, what of the people they hurt in the process?
Well, this wasn’t exactly the time for them to play conscience games, because if that was so, they would have to be more of beasts than humans and that was dangerous; though not to the Seto brothers.
"And yes, Nate. It is possible. Such a strong bond can only be broken if one of the wolves is mated to a Lycan. And since we know, Jihoon was never mated to a Lycan, that leaves only one person.
"The girl of the night, Kim Rania," Brent said and everyone gasped again.
If they weren’t careful, they would be eating the mosquitoes that were around them at this point.
If there was a better circus than the one, they felt like they were in at the moment, then that had to me some wild-ass circus, because how the hell were they even supposed to process the mate bond and now the existence of a Lycan on their lands?
It was like they were in a horror show, only that at the end of the day, none of them would survive.
"What do you mean Lycan?" Nate asked carefully, clearly not liking the diffraction of this tell-tale. But if only it was just that. If only there weren’t lives at stake because of the woman in question. If only vengeance wasn’t Rania’s greatest mission.
"Yeah, Brent. What do you mean by that? Lycans don’t exist and have never been heard of. They are just stories that were told as kids to scare us into doing the right thing. I think we are too old to tell-tales, don’t you?" Luna Park asked casually and Brent sighed.
They were really about to be going to war with the least information and that wouldn’t end well for them.
This was their time to understand whatever the fuck was going on and decide if saving the king would be worth it, or if they could just go back and live the rest of their days in silence without having to deal with any chaos from the packs.
"I wish I could tell you that they really went extinct, but they are alive in this lifetime. We all know that Lycans are creatures born of the worst curses in all of history. They are known for their cruelty, and while we have not had many of them, they exist among us.
"We live in fear of them daily, and we think of them even without knowing it," Brent said and the alphas took a breather. They knew that they were safe, given there were no Lycans mentioned in the old books and even the realm.
It had been years and years on end, and just like dinosaurs, they believed that Lycans were gone too. But where are they really extinct?
If anything, they are creatures of curses, and could be brought to existence anytime, if the curse was as terrible as many had anticipated over the years of the lost ages, right?
"Well, we don’t have any around, So we all can relax," Bai Ting said and Brent shook his head, making them worry once again. Life was already cruel enough but then the reality they were about to deface was one so jumbled and they needed to be ready for it.
"You keep forgetting the ultimate beasts, the brothers who believe in terror and eternal fire. The Setot brothers. By now you all know that they are cursed to live the longest and loneliest lives in all of history, right?
"Besides, if Rania is mated to a Lycan, this is just the goddess’s way of reminding us that we fucked up so bad, she decided to give the loneliest of creatures a chance to humanity because we couldn’t live up her expectations.
"That is how bad this situation is,’’ Brent recalled sadly.
They had truly messed up and while they couldn’t go back in time, it was obvious that they weren’t headed in the direction of ease anymore.
They had to be ready to defend themselves with all that they had and did have and if they weren’t careful, they would get lost in the chaos that was about to ensue.
"That is absurd. The goddess surely couldn’t do that to her people, right?" Luna Park asked, and they all looked at her like she just hadn’t been the one to admit that she had ignored the plight of the rightful Calindra Luna, despite being in a position to be of help to her.
Well, they had gotten here eventually and one way or the other, the whole kingdom had contributed in making Rania’s life difficult. They had their karma coming their way and this time, there was no forgiveness, at least that much they were sure of.
"You’re hilarious, Octavia," Nate said as he looked at Luna who was clearly in denial. They Knew what this meant and they knew it was ever going to be pleasant, but they could hope, right? Besides, it wasn’t like there was anything left for them to do, right?
"Which of the Seto brothers is Rania mated to?"
"Kaisei Chihiro."
