Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 346: Maybe We’re Perfect Strangers
[RANIA]
"I think Rania needs me," Dalrae said, snapping out of her sleep.
She had been doing well until she felt the urge to go check on her sister and when she heard Kaia’s desperate voice in the mind link, she knew that there was trouble somewhere, especially given how urgent Kaia had sounded.
He sounded terrific, which was something Lim Dalrae could have sworn that she had never heard from the man who murdered without thinking twice.
"Portal me there," Dalrae said and Chang Wook didn’t waste any time.
When they got to where Rania was, Dalrae looked at Alpha Kim and Kaia, before she looked at Rania who was turning pale. She knew that this wasn’t good news and she had so many questions.
"Her right arm, Dalrae, she will heal fast. Bite her upper right arm, it should reignite your bond and bring her back," Jihoon said.
Dalrae didn’t waste any time, in doing what the psycho alpha had suggested, it was all so fast and when Rania snapped out of her trance and they let out sighs of relief, there was the question of how Dalrae could have trusted Jihoon that much.
"He’s so much in love with her, he would give his life for hers anytime," Dalrae said, as if to respond to the silence that hung in the air. She knew that would make it sound even more problematic, but then it was the truth.
They all had to accept that despite everything, Jihoon was still always going to be in love with Kim Rania, regardless of who she was mated to. He would always want the best for her, despite the chaos that had been between them.
He would always show up for her, and perhaps it was his way of making it up to her for the pain he had caused her, but at least that was the one thing that Dalrae trusted when it came to Park Jihoon and Rania.
So much for mortal enemies, huh?
"Hey, hey look at me. No one is dead, alright. Everyone’s okay. I don’t know what happened but no one is dead," Dalrae said assuringly as she pulled her sister into a hug, even though Rania was still in her distraught father’s arms.
"I’m sorry," Kaia said, snapping them back to him.
No one in the history of ever, had ever heard Kaisei Seto apologize for anything, and to anyone, if it wasn’t to his brother, Haru.
"What?" Dalrae asked clearly not understanding what the hell had just happened.
"She thought I killed Alpha Kim," Kaia said in a low whisper, and Rania turned to look at her mate, the agony so clear on his face like he hadn’t meant to scare her.
Of course, she knew he didn’t mean to, but how was she to explain that without coming off as a weak alpha who was mortified by the idea of losing more people?
Would she be the weak woman or would she just be human for not wanting to lose any more members of her family?
Rania had refused to process the fact that her mother had died, owing to her denial which was rippling through her at the thought of flossing another. She didn’t have it in him to go to bed with another person.
Losing Oshita and her mother was already hard on her as it was and she just couldn’t show emotions, because her friends had rallied for her wart.
She couldn’t be a broken general in war, not if she wanted to win and that was something there still scared the shit out of her.
"I didn’t mean to panic or scare you..." Rania trailed off worried as she tried to reach out to Kaia.
The barbarian understood her, he knew she was always going to be at her best, he knew she would still have some fears and her nightmares that haunted her were not going to go away easily.
That much Kaia was aware of and he wasn’t going to rush the process of it all.
"I know, baby, I know. Don’t worry too much my little butterfly. Your dad may be an ass, but I don’t plan on killing anyone that means something to you," Kaia said before kissing her forehead softly.
He had fallen in love with Rania on her birthday years ago, and while he hadn’t gotten the chance to show it, he hoped that they would lead normal lives when the war was over.
He didn’t want to trust their bond and he wanted her to be comfortable around him. To trust him, not as a best friend, but as a partner, someone she would rely on unconditionally, someone she wouldn’t have to question no matter what happened.
Kaia knew it would take a lot of work, but he was more than ready to go all the way with her. He loved her too much to let her stay in the shadows of a past that had ruined her.
"Uh, how about this... I already executed Benita. Who do we take out next? Given we didn’t line them up to forgive them?" Kaia asked, and Rania’s eyes lit up while everyone suddenly went tense around them.
They had almost forgotten that this had been a trial session and not one in which people would be going back home happily. Perhaps there was always going to be a reason they were brought together.
"What?" Rania asked, as she was a little confused. She knew she had prisoners she was verily aware of, but then Kaia changing the subject was something had never encountered.
She had really affected him, huh?
Perhaps there was another way around this, but then nothing would ever be normal between them. It was a reality that Kim Rania had long accepted when she knew who her new mate was.
The one thing she would have to do was to try and make sure her new mate was comfortable and shit. She couldn’t handle an awkward Kaia, because that was worse than a pissed-off Kaia.
"We deal with the prisoners and then finish this up so we can all live our lives normally. Besides, we can make Incayon a better place and even a home for many. It’s always been your dream to have a united Obren, right?" Kaia said.
This time, even Dalrae was suspicious of the man. Whatever had happened to the man they knew was still a wonder but as they slowly released, Kaia was trying to lighten the situation and make it less awkward.
He had not intended for Rania to have a panic attack and the fact that he hadn’t been able to do shit, was making him feel like shit. So, he was trying to find a way out that didn’t involve his subconscious haunting him for not being able to help the woman he loved.
But could he really be blamed for that?
"The retired alpha had something to say. I doubt he came back before me just to tell us that Brent was Benita. He had to have had a reason to come out of hiding, and I know him. He is a strategist.
"Perhaps we wait for what he has to say before we can start slaughtering them, right? Besides, the prisoners have been without food for at least one hundred hours.
"A few more hundred hours won’t be that hard, right?" Rania said, reminding them of the alpha who had just popped out of nowhere.
