Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 349: What if We Were Different?
[RANIA]
"I’m tired, Kai," Rania said when she had brought Daehyun from his noose. He was still confused as to why he had been the one who had been brought down, which didn’t make him feel special.
Instead, this whole thing gave him the vibes of a man who was to be slaughtered last, given that Kim Rania never made decisions out of the blue like that. He had a cold heart, one that would take more than just more convincing to let the poor man off.
At least Daehyun was aware that this wasn’t him being freed. He was not sure what all of this was but he knew that it didn’t scream good news for him.
He was the Calindra beta, so this was probably Rania planning to use him as an example to break the souls of Jihoon and the Luna who had come for them. But was that all there was?
Well, if only Daehyun knew what Kim Rania had in plan, then he would have been able to tell if there was anything good to expect out of this, because until she pulled it out, all Daehyun could do was speculate that she didn’t throw him to the wolves.
It wasn’t much of a bargain, but damn, it was the heaviest and more expensive bargain for him and his people.
"Come, let’s go get some rest. You have done so well today, krushka. I am very proud of how far you have come," Kaia said earnestly as he pulled his mate into a hug.
Kaisei knew that being the first Lycan had been overwhelming from the onset and yet Kim Rania hadn’t tried to focus on that. Her body was changing even more vigorously with her emotions and yet even then she had managed to keep her cool.
She had done something that Kaia couldn’t even imagine someone else doing. Hell, even he had taken six months to get used to the fact that he was a Lycan. In those six months, he hadn’t gone out to hunt or even eat anything.
It was just a good thing that his body didn’t need frost during the transition because he would have suffered even more pain.
"Oh great, what about me?" Daehyun asked and before he could get an answer, a portal opened and he was thrust in, shutting him up instantly.
It was easy to assume that the portal took Daehyun to the Incayon dungeons, but then given Kaia had created it instantly without having a place in mind, there wasn’t a complete assurity that Lee Daehyun was in the Incayon dungeons.
But was that something that Kaisei Seto was focused on at the moment?
"You really did so well," Kaia whispered lovingly as he carried Rania in a bridal style and walked out of the entrapment they had been in with their prisoners.
He had reinforced it with so much magic that no one expected him to be able to open the entry for anyone there. It simply meant that no one would go in and certainly no one would come out without Kaia’s permission.
He had to be the one to undo this one, and he wasn’t going to take my chances with the safety of the Incayon warriors or even their families.
"I’ll sleep now,’’ Rania said tiredly once she was sure that they were a few meters away from the prisoners. She was too tired to keep her senses active and she certainly didn’t have the patience to be looking around.
She trusted her team to do the rest and also get some break formalities of this too. They had all had a hard day and there wasn’t denying the fact that this had gone better than Rania had thought it would have.
Her people had made her proud, despite everything that had happened. It was without a doubt a day that they would never forget.
"rest, baby. I’ll get you to our room," Kaia whispered as he watched her close her eyes and drift off into instant sleep.
He loved that she was brave and he loved that all of this hadn’t made her give up. Anyone in her state would have long given up, even if the vengeance was hers to get.
Her body had strained so much and Kaia could already see the veins that threatened to burst in Rania’s body. She had taken on too much and she had to stop. Kaia was thankful that she had managed to stop at the right time.
The walk to the pack house was not as long, given Kaia figured that with Rania sleeping, he could portal them there. He was tired himself and wanted to rest up. But nothing was more important than his woman’s rest.
He wanted to give her everything she noted, whether it was for the best or for the worst. He admired her resilience and her ability to carve through everything, all the while with her humanity on.
She was braver than him and he had to admit that, because most of the time that Kaia let his beasts do the worst of damage, he had always turned off his humanity, as it was the only way to make sure he didn’t get attacked.
At the packhouse, Kaia didn’t take Rania to her bedroom. Instead, he took her to his guest room, the one place he had been sleeping in for the past few months.
It wasn’t because he didn’t feel comfortable sleeping with Rania on her bed, but because the guest room was covered in his scent and it would be easier for Rania to get better. Her body had been strained; especially given she had fought the wolves too.
She had taken out a thousand enemy warriors on her own, which isn’t an easy feat.
She had used up most of her strength and needed a break, but more than anything, her Lycan needed the reassurance that despite everything, despite the pain that was in the air right now, Rania wasn’t alone.
That was more important than any other bond that Rania had with her friends and family, or even her people. She was in a state where only Kaia could heal her and boy did it make him feel like he could have done better.
The big bad barbarian felt his heart break as he lay his woman on his bed, making sure to take off her bloody clothes in the hope of doing away with the reminder of the war she had led them into.
She was a good general and had done everything possible.
"I will take care of you, krushka," Kaia whispered as he cast a spell that gave him warm water, and a set of clothes for his mate. He knew that she ended up in the q batch but then she was way too tired. So, he would help her with it.
Gently he wiped her body making sure to kiss her all over each time she touched her in her sleep. She was so tired that she couldn’t even feel whatever Kaia was doing to her.
However, it was comforting to some extent because Rania trusted Kaia with her life otherwise there would have been a barrier that formed to protect her from any and everyone. She would have rejected his touch and made his life a little difficult.
"I’m so sorry, butterfly. I really am," Kaia whispered defeatedly once he had wiped her body and tucked her in bed.
