Chapter 12: Chapter 12

Aria pov

"Aria. Aria," I heard in my head as I blinked my eyes and made it clean. Looking around my surroundings, I was jolted back to reality.

"Huh?" I said to Mary as she smiled.

"Why are you so lost in thought?"

I could not help but stand up as I laughed like a crazy person. "I don’t know. It’s just that what you said kind of sounds funny to me, and at the same time, it makes absolutely no sense at all. Jaxon cannot like me. Have you seen Jaxon? He’s like every woman’s guy. He can’t. He can’t like me. It’s not possible. I promise you it cannot be possible. And besides, he’s my... he’s my brother kind of sort of stuff," I said to her as she laughed.

"I am not forcing you to see that you two can walk out together. I’m just saying that any guy who acts like the way Jaxon acts around you clearly likes you. I know that for sure due to the fact that a lot of guys liked me in my former school, and I know how it feels. Jaxon likes you. I’m very, very sure of it."

"But I don’t know. Do you like him too? He’s your brother, right?" she said as I shrugged.

"Don’t say something like that, Mary. Come on. I don’t want you to assume that I have any feelings for him. I’m even surprised you’re saying something like this. Don’t. Don’t make me confused and don’t make me think too much, okay? We can’t like each other, and that’s just fine," I said to her as I sat down back and she sat beside me.

"You don’t have to be all grumpy about it. I just made a joke and you took it serious. Anyway, let’s stop talking about Jaxon and let’s talk about something else," she said as I knew that that would be better.

I muttered for my gaze was fixed on Jaxon as he continued talking to whoever he was laughing with. Clearly, I began to see what she said. His laughter seemed so fake. It seemed as though he was not satisfied. Like his attention was somewhere else. Like he was more with someone in his mind than he was with the person he was talking to.

I couldn’t help but scoff, realizing that she was right, and I never realized it until someone had to tell me. Makes no sense at all. Maybe that’s the reason why he wants me to be beside him and be his so-called werewolf mate no matter what. Everything now begins to make perfect sense to me, and now I understand why he wants me around. I have to avoid him, or else I might end up falling for him. I shake my head immediately, trying to waver off those thoughts.

"Why would I think I would like him? Oh, I’m so foolish. I’m so dumb. How can I calm down and think I can like him? Oh. Oh God. Oh God. Aria, what is wrong with you?" I thought to myself as I felt a tap on my shoulder, and it was Mary.

"Did you say something?" I asked her as she groaned and lifted her hands into the air.

"Come on, Aria. Do you not want to listen to me? Or you just don’t like when I’m just with you? Whenever I say something, you’re so lost in thought. Come on, please don’t be lost in thought because of what I said. I was just saying it. I did not mean you should suddenly think he likes you," she said to me as I quickly brushed her with a tight hug, squeezing her in my arms as she squealed in pain.

"Come on, Aria, you’re squeezing the life out of me," she muttered as I let go.

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I just wanted you to know that I am not a bad friend at all. I’m just kind of confused. You know, what you said hit me like a huge bump. Because I can never like someone like him. It sounds so funny to me, and anytime I remember your words, I cannot help but laugh," I said to her.

But before she could respond back at me, the lecturer walked in as all of us arranged our desks and Mary rushed back to her own seat. But just as I was arranging my booklets, I noticed someone was coming towards me. I looked, and it was Jaxon. Before I could even react, he sat beside me and opened his book, placing an earpiece in one of his ears as I looked at him for a while, hoping he would look back at me. But he did not even blink. Instead, he continued to flip through his pages as the lecturer went straight to the board silently. And of course, everyone seemed to be obedient.

After the class, I watched as he closed his book and just sat there scrolling through his phone, his leg crossed, and I could not help but claim my truth.

"Do you mind explaining why you are in my seat all of a sudden?" I said to him as he removed his earpiece and looked at me. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"What did you say?"

I could not help but groan angrily. "Come on, you heard me. Jaxon. Why are you sitting beside me? Get up. Maybe you did not find the appropriate seat for yourself, but you don’t sit beside me. You have never sat beside me, and I don’t want that to ever start now. Do you understand?" I said to him, hoping he would understand as he shrugged.

"I can sit anywhere I want. You can’t tell me where to sit down," he said.

"I don’t see what’s so bad and offensive about sitting beside you. Are you a monster or something that I cannot stay beside you? Besides, I need to be closer to you so that my wolf can stay at peace. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t be how chaotic he is anytime I’m far away from you," Jaxon said as I looked at him, even more frustrated.

"I don’t care about your wolf!" I yelled as he covered my mouth.

"Stop it," he whispered, his lips just a few inches away from mine, and only his hands were the barrier between the both of them. As he was so close to me, I almost choked up. The scent of his perfume almost drove me crazy. His cologne made my mind go crazy too as I tried to push him away, but he was so strong.

"Wrong. You don’t shout that out. That’s my secret, okay? It stays between both of us. You’re supposed to dream of keeping a secret," he said as I nodded.

Just then, I looked up. It was the enemy herself, her hands folded and smack on her face.

"What secrets are you two keeping?" she asked.
