Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 166: A Calm Before Storm
Jojo slept until late at night before waking up groggily. He was still in his wolf pup form, because he felt safer being small under Sisi’s care.
On top of that, with Sisi around, Jojo preferred to act spoiled, because being taken care of by her was truly an addictive experience for a boy who had grown up with a hardened father.
He opened his eyes, and just as he expected, everything was still dark for him.
"Umm... good morning, Sisi..." Jojo yawned, completely unbothered by his blindness as long as Sisi was by his side.
Sisi’s heart ached at the sight of his golden eyes, but she chuckled to lighten the mood since Jojo didn’t seem upset. "It’s still late at night. You can sleep again."
"I’m not sleepy. But I need to go to the bathroom!" Jojo shifted back into his beastman form. "Sisi, can you help me?"
"Sure."
Sisi helped Jojo hop out of bed and guided him to the bathroom inside the chamber.
She waited outside, and once he was done, he shifted back into his wolf pup form and hopped into Sisi’s embrace.
They returned to the bed, and Jojo stared emptily in Sisi’s direction as he heard her take something from a drawer before falling quiet all of a sudden.
He guessed she was busy with her often-interrupted needlework, which she usually did whenever she had free time.
Imagining Sisi working on her needlework made him feel nostalgic. It reminded him of the time they spent hopping from one cave to another.
It was dangerous, of course. Despite Sisi’s plant powers, she was still no match for something like a strong bear.
But Jojo liked that worry-free life... if only he could return to it, this time with his father as well.
"Sisi..."
"Hm?" Sisi replied, her eyes still on her needlework.
"I’m sorry, Sisi..."
"For what?"
"For Daddy..." Jojo pouted and lowered his head in shame. "I promised you that Daddy is very kind and that you would love him. But ever since we met him... he’s been very mean to you. He hurt you when we first met, and now you got hurt again here..."
Sisi glanced at Jojo, who looked miserable over his own words, and sighed."It’s not your fault, Jojo. There are many unpredictable things in life. I never expected to meet a wonderful wolf boy, travel through the Roc Forest, or live among beastmen."
"But if you didn’t meet me, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt..."
"You’re wrong," Sisi interrupted. "If I hadn’t met you, I would’ve died on that farm, because I had no will left to live."
"You are the reason I keep living, Jojo," Sisi said honestly. "You are more important to me than my own life."
"You’re more important to me, Sisi!" Jojo tried to one-up her. "You’re, um... more important than my life too!"
Sisi smiled. "Just rest for now. We have to wait until your Daddy returns."
"I don’t know when he’ll come back..." Jojo muttered.
"I hope he returns soon," Sisi replied. "Leaving you blind like this without a cure is cruel."
"I-I’m fine! I’m blind, but I have you, Sisi!" Jojo hurried to reassure her. "Besides, Daddy wouldn’t leave me unless he thought I was safe. He always left me in a cave on a hill before hunting!"
"He must have a reason, Sisi! Please don’t be mad at him!"
Jojo tried his hardest to present his father in a good light, but Sisi held a different view.
She might have tolerated Kael more if he had stayed after regaining control. It would’ve been better if he had taken Jojo with him instead of leaving him behind with a woman who couldn’t even defend herself.
And that decision nearly got Jojo killed by Leah.
Sisi had many complicated thoughts about Kael, but for now, all she wanted was to slap him across the face for everything that had happened.
"It’s fine. Once he returns, I’ll ask him for a cure for your blindness," Sisi said. "With my powers, I’m sure I can find the ingredients needed."
"Jojo will be fine as long as Sisi is with me," Jojo said as he snuggled closer. "Sisi, why don’t you want to be my Mommy? Am I a bad boy? Do you not want me anymore?"
"Oh, don’t be so dramatic," Sisi chuckled. "I’m already taking care of you as if you’re my own son."
"But it’s different..." Jojo insisted.
"Well... being your Mommy means marrying your Daddy," Sisi said honestly. "And it’ll take a while before I agree to that. Aside from his strength and wealth, he hasn’t done much to impress me."
Jojo knew she wasn’t wrong.
Sisi had always been clear about her likes and dislikes, and Jojo knew his father was firmly in the dislike category right now.
Still, Jojo was confident Sisi would come to like his father eventually. After all, his father always said strength and provision were the most important qualities to attract a mate—and he had plenty of both.
’And Daddy is very handsome too!’
Jojo wasn’t entirely sure what counted as "handsome," since he had only grown up with his father. But if many beastmen said his father was handsome, then it must be true.
Still, the most important opinion was Sisi’s.
"Sisi, Sisi!"
"Mm?"
"What do you think about Daddy? Is he handsome to you?"
"Handsome?" Sisi raised her brows and fell into thought.
Yes, Kael fit traditional standards of attractiveness. He was tall and muscular, with tanned skin, deep crimson eyes, and sharp masculine features that made him an ideal man in the eyes of women.
Yet Sisi had never looked at men that way. Though, she also felt nothing with a woman’s beauty, because plenty of beastmen called her beautiful in this palace, yet she never saw herself that way.
Maybe something was wrong with her—but she had never been drawn to looks alone. If she only cared for looks, she would’ve ended up with one of those farm workers, as they were young and good-looking, though not as majestic as Kael.
