Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 241: Consequence (II)
"Grandma, I... I understand your concern. But I am willing to return to the faerie land and accompany you to rule over the faeries because of this one very reason. The Dawn Star has become blind because of his curse, and it hurts my heart whenever he stares at me with his empty eyes," Sisi didn’t want to hide anything, including her real concern in front of Grandma. After all, they’d spend a long time together, and trust was important. "I do not want immortality, because I am already a half-human. I’ve seen too many deaths growing up in human civilization, and I’ve long accepted that I will die as well."
"My dearest, do you want to leave me so badly?" Grandma asked in a shaky voice.
She was already an old lady. Even if she was an immortal spirit, she still wished to be accompanied by her kin—not the faeries, but a fellow spirit from the earth, just like Sisi and her late mother.
"Grandma, don’t think too badly of me. But in order to appreciate a relationship, you have to know the beginning and the end," Sisi tried to comfort the weeping old lady. "I will accompany you for the rest of my life as a human, and once I die, there will be a new me, another darling who might have a similar appearance and behavior as I, who will fill my spot to accompany you."
"Dearest, your decision truly hurts me, but..." Grandma slowly pushed herself away to separate their hug. She stared at her granddaughter and nodded. "I cannot stop you from doing what is rightfully yours. You will give up the choice of immortality, but in exchange, you can heal the Dawn Star of this era from all the side effects of his curse."
"But before I allow you to do that, promise me that you will prioritize yourself first, dearest," Grandma added. "I want you to keep yourself safe before protecting others, because without the water from Origin Spring, you won’t be able to heal yourself instantly. You’ll have to rely on medicine from human civilization or herbal medicine from Roc Forest."
Sisi nodded while muttering ’I promise’ without thinking too much about it. She was quite self-preserving after all, and she believed keeping herself safe would be a piece of cake.
"Since you’ve promised me, then you can take some of the water from this spring," Grandma said. "But I suggest you drink to your heart’s content first, because this will be the last time you can do that."
Sisi thought that made sense. She had firsthand experience of how miraculous the water from this spring was, so she had to take advantage of that as much as possible before she lost access to it.
Thus, Sisi scooped the water with her hands and drank from them at least four more times just to quench her thirst and to memorize the taste and freshness of the spring water.
Once she was satisfied, she opened a bamboo container hanging on her waist and began filling it to the brim.
"Okay, this should be enough," Sisi muttered. "Grandma, once I walk out of that shrinking tunnel, I’ll return to my regular size, right?"
"Yes."
"Great! I can’t wait to give this to Jojo, so he can finally see again!"
"Before you do that, you’ll have to perform a small miracle, Sisi," Grandma reminded. She gently held her granddaughter’s hands and closed her eyes, as if she was trying to remember a painful memory from the past.
"First, you have to kiss the one you want to heal. It can be on his forehead, lips, nose, or wherever. Then whisper in his ear, ’May earth and heaven bless you with their undying love. May you become one with mother nature—pure, untainted, and loved.’
’May this water heal you just as I wish to abandon my divinity for you—’"
Grandma paused. She opened her eyes slowly. "And then call his name. It must be his real name, and Jojo is not the Dawn Star’s real name in this era."
"Once you’ve done that, all you need to do is to let him drink the water from Origin Spring. And since you said that the Dawn Star has become blind due to his curse, then wash his eyes with the remaining water. I guarantee that he will be able to see again."
Sisi listened to the instructions attentively. She had an excellent memory and had written everything down in her mind.
"Thank you so much, Grandma. I promise that I’ll be back," Sisi said.
"Is it really worth giving up everything for that boy, dearest?" Grandma suddenly asked. "He is the Dawn Star—a cursed being stronger than his father. Do you know that he might not appreciate your sacrifice once he gets older?"
Sisi recalled the cute boy who was waiting for her to come back, and then also recalled Kael, the ’adult version’ of Jojo.
With all the sweet memories she had with Jojo and Kael, she never thought of them as cursed beings who would turn their backs on her. Both Jojo and Kael genuinely loved her as much as she loved them.
"I regret nothing, Grandma. They are my beloved, and I know that they will think of me fondly," Sisi smiled at her grandma. "Grandma, you’ve been taking care of the faeries for so long. You must know that loving someone will cause you to do risky things, right?"
"... You sound just like your mother, dearest," Grandma said, her eyes beginning to pool with tears. But she silently wiped her eyes. "I just hope that your fate is better than hers."
Sisi couldn’t promise anything to Grandma about her fate. Of course, she’d do her best not to get herself killed, but that was all she could do.
"You should go and heal the Dawn Star, dearest. Don’t worry, I’ll be here, waiting for you to return," Grandma assured.
"Oh, before I leave, may I ask one more thing, Grandma?"
"Anything, dearest."
"Umm... about my father. Was he a good man to my mother?"
