Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 240: Consequence (I)
"What are you talking about, Grandma? Didn’t I promise that I’d stay with you after you fulfilled my request?" Sisi held her grandma’s hand, seeing that she looked so dejected. "I’m not going anywhere, it is my promise."
Grandma lifted her gaze and smiled at her dearest granddaughter. "Darling, that is not what I meant. You may stay here, but your heart doesn’t belong here. You will eventually leave me too, just like your mother..."
"Grandma, I don’t understand..." Sisi said. "I promised to stay in faerie land and take care of the faeries. Crush Tutu told me that her grandfather has been in charge for a while and is pretty exhausted because the faeries don’t really listen to him."
Grandma simply smiled weakly at Sisi and then said, "Do you know there is a consequence of giving the water from Origin Spring to someone else, dearest?"
"I-I don’t know, Grandma," Sisi admitted. She became nervous and asked, "W-will it hurt the one who drinks it? Does it work like a poison to others?"
"No, it works like a poison to you instead," Grandma replied. There was a trace of deep sadness in her eyes. She gradually lost her smile as she continued, "It is true that the water from Origin Spring will cure any illness, and that also includes whatever illness is caused by a curse. Though it cannot cure the Dusk and Dawn Stars of their curses—they were just born with them and will die carrying the same curse. However, it will stop any side effects from ever forming, so they will be healthy until they have to finish the cycle of their incarnation eventually."
Sisi’s face brightened, thinking that Jojo would be healed of his blindness and live a normal life. All she wanted was to see him grow up healthy, even if that meant she couldn’t see him anymore.
"T-then, let me fill a bottle with the water from Origin Spring, Grandma. I want to save Jojo."
"Jojo?" Grandma’s brows furrowed. "Who is that?"
"That is my adopted son, and also the Dawn Star of this era. He... he saved my life back when I was still in human civilization. Without him, I would’ve died before even awakening my power," Sisi replied, recalling all the events that happened on the farm.
She didn’t lie, though. She definitely would’ve withered and died under Mr. Piker’s hand if Jojo didn’t show up and force her to awaken her power.
In a way, they saved each other, and since Jojo had imprinted on her as his mother, then she’d also do the same as she saw him as her own son.
"Jojo..." Grandma seemed to be contemplating something. "Who is the name of the Dusk Star in this era? Kael?"
"Oh, you know him?" Sisi asked back.
"Of course, I know them. They are tasked to bear the burden of the darkness inside Roc Forest in every era. The Dusk Star of this era should be Kael, but the Dawn Star’s name shouldn’t be Jojo," Grandma said. "I think Kael is hiding his son’s real name. Don’t forget to ask him for the Dawn Star’s real name before helping him, because you’ll need to perform a small miracle while giving him the water from Origin Spring, and it requires a real name."
The new information shocked Sisi, but she was even more shocked when Grandma gave her instructions, as if the old lady had long accepted the fact that Sisi would do it no matter how hard she tried to persuade her.
However, she also saw that Grandma’s face became even sadder until she looked so heartbroken.
Sisi became concerned and tried to hug her. "Grandma, what’s wrong? Didn’t I promise to stay by your side? After I heal Jojo of his blindness, then I promise that I’ll stay by your side forever."
"Oh, dearest, didn’t I tell you there is a consequence for giving water from Origin Spring to someone else?" Grandma hugged her granddaughter back as tightly as she could. "Once you give it to someone else, you’ll lose the right to ever drink from it again. You won’t be immortal, and any injury or sickness that you get cannot be healed using the water from the spring."
"Dearest, I don’t want to lose you like I lost your mother. It’s too painful for me, and even if I can eventually conceive another darling, it will take a long time," Grandma said. "Your mother was a selfless fool, and I can’t believe you imitated that side of her as well."
"D-does that mean my late mother died because she couldn’t drink from the Origin Spring?" Sisi asked.
"She... she also did the same thing as you, dearest. She fell in love with your father at first sight, a prince from the human kingdom. He was on the verge of death when your mother found him, and she didn’t hesitate to take water from Origin Spring to heal him completely."
"I tried to stop your mother from falling in love with a human. But she was stubborn, just like you, and also selfless. They finally got married, and your father lived with us for a while until you were born," Grandma recalled the event that the faeries had been hiding from her. "Your mother fell ill soon after having you, and since she had used the water from Origin Spring to cure your father, she slowly withered away, no matter what kind of medication we tried to get from both Roc Forest and human civilization."
"She died not long after you were born, dearest. That’s why I don’t want you to give the water from Origin Spring to the Dawn Star, because one fatal injury or grave illness and you will be gone, just like what happened to your mother..."
Sisi listened attentively and understood that Grandma’s concern was valid. She must’ve been traumatized by Sisi’s mother’s death, so she tried to prevent the same from happening to her.
But Sisi never wanted to be immortal, and she had a much bigger priority than her own well-being.
