Most Powerful Entity in Academy-Chapter 61: Dungeon 3
Raul POV.
Gabriel looked like she had collapsed.
She fell to her knees.
"Why... why... those poor children didn’t deserve this."
I placed my hand on her shoulder. "Come on, Gabriel. The kids wouldn’t want to see you like this."
"No, Raul. Why was this tragedy allowed to stay silent?"
"It wasn’t silent, Gabriel. The bastard burned to death, and he’s still burning in hell right now." Gabriel trembled at every word.
For an angel, these things are heartbreaking.
The memories that had been forced into our minds were the children’s last gift to us.
They didn’t want our pity.
They wanted us to keep going.
Gabriel slowly stood up and wiped the tears from her eyes with her sleeve. "Let’s go."
"Yes. Let’s keep going for Lily."
I feel sorry for these children.
They remind me of what I felt in my own childhood.
That’s why I keep swallowing hard.
I feel like throwing up.
It’s not because of the torture they endured.
It’s because I know exactly what they felt.
After all, I’m a torturer myself in a way.
I’ve done worse things to others than what happened to them.
Without realizing it, we had already entered the hidden room inside the mansion.
When we stepped into the room in the middle of the mansion, there was a bookshelf.
Pulling one of the books opened a staircase leading to the cellar.
The flames were so massive that any human would burn here.
We slowly descended the stairs.
Gabriel was talking to herself.
She was excited because she was about to see Lily.
When we reached the bottom of the stairs, we kept moving forward.
There were cages all around.
The very walls looked like they wanted to disappear, but no, they were still there.
The sight at the end of the corridor was shocking.
Footsteps were coming toward us.
There she was.
Gabriel and I looked at the little girl in front of us.
A blonde girl with green eyes, about 130 cm tall.
Half her face was burned.
"Thank you for putting my siblings to rest," she said and bowed.
She was engulfed in flames, so she kept her distance out of fear of hurting us.
Gabriel gently took Lily’s tiny arm.
Lily’s eyes widened. "Don’t run away, Lily. You can see us as your auntie and uncle."
"Um... auntie, are you an angel?" Lily asked.
Because even though Gabriel wasn’t in her angelic form right now, any human on earth would call her an angel if they saw her.
Gabriel chuckled lightly and stroked Lily’s hair. "Yes. My name is Gabriel."
Then Lily looked at me. "And what’s your name, uncle?"
"I don’t have a name," I said.
Lily lowered her head.
Gabriel gave me a strange look.
"His name is Raul, sweetie. He’s just really shy," Gabriel said.
Lily nodded. "Yes, I saw how gently he played with my little brothers and sisters. A kind-hearted gentleman."
"Okay, little one, why didn’t the people who came here ever return?" Gabriel asked.
Lily straightened up.
"Well... I can control the flames here, but they never go out. People who come here usually get roasted by the heat..."
Gabriel lightly tapped Lily’s head. "You shouldn’t talk like that. People pass away, they don’t get ’roasted.’"
"Come on, Gabriel. She’s just a little girl," I said.
"Okay, uncle, why are you looking at me like that? Is something wrong?" Lily asked, trembling.
She had trembled even when Gabriel touched her, but the angel made a mistake by presenting me as an "uncle" figure.
You can’t approach someone with trust issues and sensitivity to the word "uncle" like that.
I sighed softly.
"Little Lily, do you have a wish? Because we found you. Soon you’ll leave, whether you want to or not."
"Actually... thank you, uncle and auntie. I couldn’t take care of the children, but you fulfilled their wishes, so thank you," she said.
Lily looked like she was about to cry, but the moisture in her eyes evaporated because of the flames surrounding her.
I slowly knelt and held Lily.
"It’s okay, Lily. You don’t have to be strong. Uncle understands you."
"I-I’m fine..." Lily said, shocked that I hugged her.
The flames began wrapping around me.
Gabriel started watching from a distance.
"Don’t lie. You don’t have to act like that in front of uncle and auntie," I said and gently stroked her back.
Lily was shaking in my arms, trying to push me away and not burn me.
But I didn’t let go.
Because if I let go, she would never be saved.
The flames spreading from Lily were hot; they burned the soul, but that didn’t matter.
A child’s scream is proof that humanity died long ago.
We, as humanity, have failed, and we’re proud of it.
Lily was crying.
The flames were being absorbed into me.
Slowly, her tears began to wet my shoulder.
"AHHHHHH!" Lily screamed and kept crying, and she cried and cried until she passed on the unquenchable flames inside her to me.
She felt relieved when she shared her burden.
But I was still sad.
How many years had this girl been here? How much loneliness had she endured?
Then she slowly whispered, "Uncle... actually, I have one wish."
"Hmm, tell me. Should Uncle give you the world?"
Lily giggled. "Pfft, uncle, you’re so funny."
"Don’t worry. Uncle is very strong," I said.
Her voice grew quiet again. "I... used to sing songs or read books to my siblings. Could you sing me a song, big brother?"
Gabriel was looking at me with a "go for it, champ" expression.
"Go to sleep, little Lily,
Close your pretty eyes.
Angels up above you
peeping at you dearly from the skies..."
As I said this, Gabriel transformed into her fairy-like form, and divine light filled the surroundings.
She slowly flew above Lily’s head.
"Great moon shining,
Stars begin to peek,
Time to rest, little Lily..."
Lily was slowly enveloped in divine light.
She began to rise gently from my arms, and her burned appearance started to heal.
"Uncle and auntie, you found me. Don’t forget me, okay?" she said and slowly pointed her finger at us.
She was smiling....
Gabriel and I chuckled and waved. "Rest, Lily."
"Uncle and auntie... I love you both of you," she said.
Those were Lily’s last words before her soul ascended to heaven.
A portal appeared in front of us.
[Dungeon completed.]
The voice echoed in both Gabriel’s and my mind.
I slowly wiped the tears from my eyes.
"Huh, it’s rare to see you cry," Gabriel said.
I lightly tapped her shoulder. "Come on, let’s go."
