Most Powerful Entity in Academy-Chapter 63: Investigation
Raul POV.
Fuck.
Seriously, man, there were better times to die.
This just fucked the entire plot.
It’s going to bring out an unknown factor.
Who did this?
"Professor Cain, Director Stella, if you allow me, I’d like to investigate this," I said.
Professor Cain put his hand to his chin. "You’re tier 6 like me. I’ve done tracking missions in wars. Director Stella, leave this to us."
"Fine. Raul Cainhurst and Cain Drakhar, I’m assigning both of you to this case. I will handle all paperwork. Raul, you’re on break from classes. Solve this, and you’ll get rewards plus full marks for the year," Stella said and waved her hand.
Professor Cain and I left the office.
Looks like I’ll be spending some quality time with this giant war hero. "Hmm, Director Stella trusts you a lot, kid."
"Yeah, I just cleared a dungeon," I replied.
Cain seemed interested. "HMM, which dungeon? What’s its name?"
"The red portal one in the desert of the Mahakar Empire." It was a famous dungeon, but it had no official name.
Adventurers called it the Suicide Dungeon. "WOW, your name’s gonna be heard again soon, huh?"
I gave him a weird look, and we walked through the academy gates together toward the city, to the place where the body was.
It was night now, which was a problem.
Even the professor must have run here.
I had given Stella a report at night.
Why? Just felt like it.
The city lamps lit our way.
We approached the crowd. "Clear the way!"
The guards parted as they did for Professor Cain; the news must have spread fast.
The crime scene was cordoned off with police tape.
I looked at the building.
It had to be the biggest entertainment spot: a place called Goodnight Kiss.
About 100 meters tall, one of the largest buildings.
The academy was bigger, of course.
However, in a medieval atmosphere of two- or three-story buildings, it looked out of place.
I crouched next to the body. "The body is still warm. Estimated time since death: 2 hours 37 minutes."
I touched the corpse’s neck.
There was a pool of blood around.
"Yes, according to the latest information, he came here to drink, but he had quit drinking recently," Professor Cain said.
He looked sad.
Even in the game, people felt both hatred and pity for Professor Kynar after the event of Whore of Babylon.
But there was something he didn’t notice.
No one would have noticed if I weren’t here.
This man’s soul was taken just before he died.
The wounds weren’t very large.
But strangely, every bone in his body was broken. "Professor Cain, any guesses?"
"Kynar Voss was a former inquisitor. He was respected in the Submission faith, but he suddenly quit. After that, he became an alcoholic, and Stella found him and offered him a job... but the last time I spoke to him, he promised to quit drinking."
"Professor, you know you need to keep your emotions in check. This case is very serious. A possible suicide of an academy professor," I said. Cain’s face went blank.
He sighed and nodded. "I got a little emotional, sorry about that."
"Hmm, notice anything else?" he asked.
He crouched beside the body, too.
I slowly sniffed and leaned toward the mouth. "He drank alcohol. And something heavy."
"Holy shit, Sherlock! Of course, he drank, he came to a bar, you idiot," Cain said.
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Ah, I mean, it’s weird. A guy who quit drinking suddenly gets drunk and commits suicide."
"It’s possible. Maybe he was trying to numb the pain with alcohol?" Cain said.
He looked at Kynar, whose joints looked like they had declared independence.
"Look at his fingers. Extra damage. Not normal."
I looked where Cain pointed.
"This man’s soul is neither in heaven nor hell. I contacted my brother Michael," Gabriel said.
Only I could hear her.
"I have a very weird theory," I said.
Cain didn’t take his eyes off the body. "Go on."
"He wanted to quit drinking, but someone offered him a drink. Given his old job, the chance of complications is very high, maybe something he regrets. We need to talk to Saintess Maria. The guy dove from the roof. And he was drinking before he died. There’s a mix of blood and alcohol on his cheek, I’m talking oxidation. He didn’t miss taking one last sip before dying, but where’s the bottle?"
Professor Cain stood up. "So you’re saying someone planned it? We should wait for the morgue report to confirm."
But his words were cut off by flashes.
Reporters were everywhere trying to film us, and the guards were stopping them.
"KEEP GOING IF YOU WANT TO DIE!!" Cain roared at the cameras.
"Ahem, anyway, the jumping from the roof makes sense, but someone committing suicide by diving headfirst? I’d understand if it were drugs instead of alcohol," he said.
Then I stood up. "Got a better idea, Professor?"
"Call me Cain. But even if your points make sense, we need to check the establishment’s cameras and find out who last spoke to Kynar. I’ll figure that out. You go sleep, kid," he said and lightly patted my shoulder.
I slowly walked away.
The moment I left the crime scene, reporters swarmed me.
"Mr. Raul, it’s confirmed that academy professor Kynar Voss committed suicide!"
I looked at the reporter who said that. "Nothing is confirmed, and whoever is behind this will be found and given the punishment they deserve."
"Then why didn’t you fight the demon Andras?"
"Are you sons of bitches stupid? I killed the demon god worshippers. Didn’t you hear about that? Go save your brain cells for something else, or ask the hero," I said and teleported away instantly.
My goal was achieved.
I’ll draw attention to myself.
Whatever bastard did this, I’ll give them a nice torture session.
Wait for me, you son of a bitch. I’ll find you.
