Chapter 65 -65: Sooner or Later I’ll Stew You
In the afternoon, Xu Yang rode the tricycle, taking the two dogs for a stroll around the village.
He stopped by the family shop on the way to pick up some items.
After all, it was free.
Once at the store, Little Black dashed off to play with Big Yellow.
“Mom, I’m taking our rooster and two hens later,”
Xu Yang said.
“Sure, take them, I was planning to stew them anyway,”
Mrs. Xu immediately agreed.
In Xu Yang’s yard, there were a rooster and several hens, which was typical for rural homes—every household had them.
This rooster served as Xu Yang’s alarm clock, though not a very punctual one.
It would crow two hours after sunrise each day.
Some roosters crow at four, others reliably at just past six, but this one at eight.
It was a rooster that disliked waking up early.
Conveniently, Xu Yang, on vacation, didn’t want to wake up early either, so he would get up whenever he heard the rooster, which worked out just right.
It suited his schedule perfectly.
Xu Yang grabbed some drinks and a box of instant noodles.
The things his family bought were all at wholesale prices, much cheaper than the standard price and even cheaper than online shopping.
“Okay, I’ll head back home then,”
After picking up the items, Xu Yang loaded them onto the tricycle, ready to leave.
“Is everything okay at your farm, with just the two of you? Let me know if you need any help,”
Mrs. Xu asked with concern.
“No worries, there’s not much to do right now, the two of us are enough,”
Xu Yang responded with a smile.
Actually, aside from the blueberries in the greenhouse, Xu Yang’s farm wasn’t much different from a rural household’s courtyard, so there wasn’t much work.
The chickens, ducks, and geese were all in normal numbers.
Two people were entirely sufficient.
It was only during harvest season that they needed to hire a few people to help.
Xu Yang rode the tricycle back home.
The rural courtyard was still as quiet as ever.
He unlocked the padlock on the iron gate, withdrew the bolt, pushed open the door, and walked in.
There was nobody home, just a few chickens roaming around the yard.
In the vegetable garden, there were still some chili peppers and tomatoes growing.
Xu Yang started looking for the rooster.
He looked around and finally spotted the fellow standing on the roof, watching him.
“Clo-clo-clo-clo-clo~”
“Come down!”
Xu Yang shouted at the rooster.
At his call, the rooster paid no heed, but several hens, thinking it was feeding time, ran over.
The rooster still stood on the roof.
“Come down! I’m taking you to a place!”
Xu Yang shouted at the rooster.
But the rooster sensed something amiss.
This is coming for me!
Chickens are tricky to catch, running incredibly fast, and if they can’t run, they pretend to lay an egg and freeze.
Seeing the rooster wouldn’t come down, Xu Yang jumped onto the courtyard wall, then climbed up to the roof, ready to catch the chicken.
His movements were extremely agile, making it look easy to reach the roof.
Just as Xu Yang was about to catch it, the rooster leapt up, flew off the roof flapping its wings, and landed gracefully.
After landing, it clucked mockingly.
As if taunting Xu Yang:
“Kid, I can fly.”
Xu Yang was somewhat exasperated by this fellow.
“If it weren’t for your timekeeping, I would have stewed you today.”
Xu Yang climbed down from the roof along the courtyard wall and then started chasing the rooster.
On the open ground, it was much easier to chase, and within a few steps, the rooster was in Xu Yang’s grasp.
Xu Yang found a cage and put it inside, also catching two hens.
The hens could lay eggs, and the eggs from home-raised country chickens tasted better.
Soon, Xu Yang, with his “loot,” along with the two dogs, headed back to the farm.
He opened the cage, let the rooster and hens out to acclimate to their new surroundings.
He even made a nest for them in the chicken coop.
However, he kept them separate from the small chickens, as there was a risk of bullying among home-raised chickens, making separation the best approach.
Xu Yang then looked toward the direction of Agricultural University’s experimental field.
Workers were already installing fences.
The school had ample funds and always dealt with safety-related issues immediately.
Of course, when it came to things like air conditioning and dormitory environments, some schools were reluctant to spend more money.
“We really need to watch out for wild boars.”
“Farming isn’t easy either.”

“The place where people live is rich in resources, I guess there are quite a few animals coming.”
Xu Yang was thinking to himself.
Take the farm, for example. The farm had a very large tin trash bin where all the general trash was kept, and once full, someone would be called to haul it all away.
This was inevitable, any living in a small yard generated trash.
This would attract rats.
And then attract barn cats.
Thus, they needed to add rodent control to the agenda.
At that moment, three Little Foxes ran over, happy and cheerful.
They now belonged to the farm’s unofficial team.
“You three, come here!”
Xu Yang squatted down and called out.
The three little ones, hearing Xu Yang’s voice, immediately ran over, lying down and begging for pats.
Xu Yang squatted and petted the Little Fox, laughing as he said,
“I’m feeding you for free, but you’ve got to do some work too. If there are any rats, it’s up to you guys.”
“Don’t let them ruin my farm.”
He wasn’t sure if the Little Fox could understand, but anyhow, the three critters just kept cooing.
Life was still easygoing.
Xu Yang then looked towards the blueberry greenhouses.
His current way of making money was still reliant on blueberries. The chickens, ducks, and geese he raised only made a bit of money; after all, with so many large breeding farms around, his small farm’s poultry didn’t sell much.
“Let’s see what this year’s yield looks like.”
“If the market prospects are good, I’ll build a few more greenhouses next year and plant them entirely with blueberries.”
“Running a farm, you definitely need to have a main revenue-generating project.”
“My revenue project is the greenhouse blueberries.”
Xu Yang was thinking to himself.
As a farmer, he naturally had to consider the issue of farm income; after all, the farm was not yet profitable and was all investment.
The farm was still reliant on the income from Mountain Rushing and streaming.
For the farm to develop healthily, it certainly couldn’t rely on these alone.
He had to stand firm first.
“Let’s take it slow; you can’t invest too much at once.”
Xu Yang was planning for the future.
“There’s still plenty of open space around. If it really makes money, I could expand the farm to 500 acres.”
“Then I’ll expand a few more greenhouses, all planted with blueberries.”
“Striving to become the Blueberry King around here.”
He had blueberry seedlings extracted by the system, which were of very fine variety.
As long as he could achieve self-propagation of blueberries.
With the advantage of superior varieties, Xu Yang could truly become a major blueberry producer.
It was only the beginning now.
Xu Yang petted the three Little Foxes again, stood up, and walked toward the residential area.
The three Little Foxes, still not having enough, hurriedly followed, clamoring for more pats.
They even actively ran in front of Xu Yang, rolled on their backs, and showed their bellies.
Then they tilted their heads, opened their mouths, and looked at Xu Yang plaintively.
A stance of “we won’t get up unless you pet us.”
Xu Yang couldn’t help but smile, squatted down to pet the Little Fox again, and then continued walking.
Little Black ran over and started frolicking with the foxes.
The scene was indescribably leisurely.
The rooster had already flown onto the roof, like an emperor inspecting his territory.
It faced the soon-to-set sun, cleared its throat, and suddenly crowed loudly.
“Goo goo~ GOO!!!!”
Hearing this noise, Xu Yang looked up and yelled,
“Are you alright?”
“What are you yelling for in the middle of the afternoon?”
“Don’t you have a sense of time!”
The big rooster paid no attention to Xu Yang, feeling very comfortable yelling in such a big place.
So, it took another deep breath, sang loudly, and crowed with all its might.
“I’ll stew you one of these days.”
Hearing it yell again, Xu Yang said this and didn’t bother anymore.
