Chapter 32 - 32: Kate Was Fuming

Lowering his eyes, he looked past her heaving chest and focused on the document in her hand. His eyes narrowed. "You're asking for a billion dollars in compensation?"

Without lifting her head, Chantelle flicked the paper and replied in a flat tone, "What? Are you offering to pay for Ms. Kate?"

She let out a soft sigh. "How sweet. Your relationship with her must be going strong."

Her sultry eyes laid on Daniel as she handed him the document without hesitation.

Daniel glanced at the paper, easily spotting the woman's greed hidden in every word.

"If the person responsible can't pay, their shares can be used to cover the damages?"

Daniel's eyes darkened. "Chantelle, are you trying to get a share in Bently Corporation?"

Chantelle didn't hide her intentions. "You're a sharp man, Mr. Wilson. It makes things easier for me. But I'm sure the Wilsons can dig deep into their pockets to save Bently Corporation."

Daniel let out a short laugh. "You're bold, Chantelle."

She had destroyed Kate and was now taking advantage of her in the hospital.

Daniel thought there was something deeper between them.

With a fake smile plastered on her face, Chantelle stepped forward and flipped the contract in Daniel's hand to the page with her bank details. "You flatter me. This is my account number. I'd appreciate full payment. I don't like being owed."

Daniel didn't try to negotiate. He simply tossed the document to Ashton to handle the payment.

Chantelle should have been happy to receive a billion dollars on the spot.

Instead, it infuriated her that Daniel was standing up for Kate.

Even after Kate's downfall, he still supported her. He didn't even blink an eye at paying a billion dollars.

Chantelle's face darkened, even after receiving the money.

Daniel drew closer to her and swiftly leaned in near her ear.

His husky, sensual voice sent a shiver through her.

"What else does Kate owe you besides the billion dollars?"

Chantelle pushed him away, and she swiftly stepped back.

"What are you talking about, Mr. Wilson? I don't understand..."

She lifted her head, feigning innocence, and lied without hesitation.

Daniel stared at her, trying to figure out what she was thinking through his dim eyes.

Meanwhile, Kate had been listening behind the door. She suddenly acted as if she had just noticed Daniel standing there.

She pushed the door open and ran out, crying.

"Daniel? You're finally here!"

She rushed toward him, ready to throw herself into his arms and play the helpless victim.

But Daniel took a step back.

Kate lost her balance and crashed onto the cold marble floor with a loud thud.

She lay there, motionless, like a fish dropped onto a chopping board.

"Hahaha!"

Chantelle burst into laughter.

Ashton, being quick to notice the situation, hurried over to help Kate up.

Kate's body ached from the fall, but she didn't blame Daniel. She accepted Ashton's help and got to her feet.

Gathering her courage, she moved closer to Daniel and gently grabbed his arm.

"Boo hoo. Daniel, I knew you'd come for me! That woman hit me and threatened me. You have to do something!"

Chantelle had already gotten the money and was ready to let things go. She didn't want it to seem like she had a grudge against Kate.

Just as she was about to leave, Kate suddenly accused her.

Chantelle raised an eyebrow.

"Oh? So you don't want me to leave? Fine. I'll stay and be a witness to your little charity schemes. I've got time."

Calm and sauntered, Chantelle strolled back toward Kate.

Kate's face turned pale.

The woman was here to humiliate her!

Chantelle actually had the nerve to mention the charity in front of Daniel.

Kate regretted not holding back until the troublesome woman was gone.

If only she could turn back time.

"Daniel, what happened at the charity event was my fault. Things got out of control because I didn't manage my people properly. I had no idea they would dare go behind my back and pull such a stunt!"

Chantelle smirked. "Oh my, are you saying our kindhearted princess was framed? It sure didn't look that way."

"Chantelle, you—" Kate's face was burning with rage. Her body felt weak, and her eyes nearly rolled back.

Chantelle tilted her head. "I'm talking to you. Stop pretending. I'm not Mr. Wilson. That helpless act won't work on me. Just a minute ago, you were trying to scratch me to death." She then lifted her hand, "Look, my hand's bleeding."

Amused by Kate's acting, Chantelle walked to her and poked Kate with a needle.

Kate yelped in pain.

A fresh scratch on Chantelle's hand was bleeding. She made sure to wave it around in front of Daniel.

It annoyed him.

She was clearly mocking him.

How did she know that Kate always acted weak around him?

The thought made his chest feel heavy.

Kate, on the other hand, was furious. Chantelle had ruined her chance to fake a fainting spell.

If Daniel weren't there, she would have torn Chantelle apart.

"You got what you came for, Ms. Bently. You should leave," Daniel said, cutting the tension between them.

Chantelle smiled. "No problem. I'll let you catch up with your dear sister-in-law, Mr. Wilson."

With that, she turned and walked away.

Kate was fuming!

"Look at her, Daniel!"

Kate was seething. What did she mean by sister-in-law?

Daniel was hers from the start!

As far as she was concerned, every woman named Chantelle should just disappear!

Daniel watched Chantelle walk into the elevator, her stilettos clicking against the floor.

There was something about her that lingered in his mind.

His breath caught for a moment.

When he snapped out of it, he saw Kate staring at him with teary eyes and a pale face.

Annoyed, he frowned.

"Kate, explain what happened at the charity dinner."

"Daniel, I don't know the full story. I'm a victim, too. You have to believe me!"

"Are you sure about that?"

"I swear on my family's future. I know nothing about it! One of my employees must be behind this. I know how much your grandfather means to you. I would never do something like that!"

Kate looked sincere and convincing.

What a shame...

"I'll have Ashton arrange for you to stay abroad. Don't come back until these things die down."
