Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 470: Pick Her Up Quickly
"They must have searched for her body, right? Did they find anything?" Oscar asked suddenly.
Steve nodded. "It took me a long time to find someone involved in the search and rescue. He said they searched the entire area for a full month. They found nothing. Not even a shred of her clothing. Old Mr. Wilson said he saw her disappear before she even hit the ground."
The three brothers exchanged a look. It felt like they were listening to a fantasy tale, except it had happened to their own parents.
"The reason I didn’t reach out to Chantelle earlier was because I heard that lucky charm had resurfaced. It made me worried. Whatever happened back then must be connected to it. I believe bringing her back into the family too soon would only bring danger into her life."
Right as he finished speaking, Rowan’s phone rang. It was Camille. "Help, Rowan! Save me!"
He glanced at Steve. "Tell me where you are. I’ll come get you."
"What happened?" Steve asked.
Rowan forced a smile. "It’s nothing. Camille couldn’t find Mr. Wilson, caused a scene at the engagement party, and got kicked out. She wants me to pick her up."
"Go on, pick her up quickly." Steve looked at his grandson’s pale face and let out a gentle sigh.
"What happened, Rowan?" Oscar asked as he followed him out.
Rowan’s expression was grim. "Something happened to Camille. She only screamed into the phone and then... nothing."
No matter what Camille had done, she was still their grandfather’s beloved granddaughter. They could not allow anything to happen to her.
While the three brothers got in touch with the police and checked the surveillance cameras near the engagement party to find her, Chantelle woke up in Daniel’s arms.
Chantelle woke up because of the noise outside the villa. She kept her eyes closed and listened. She could recognize Roman and Ruby’s voices.
She knew she would not be able to fall back asleep.
"Ignore them. Just sleep." Daniel tightened his arms around her waist so she couldn’t get up.
There were security guards outside, so neither of them needed to do anything.
"I want to see what’s happening." She pushed him aside and got up. She heard Roman shouting for help at the top of his lungs, and she wanted to know what was going on.
Roman had been behaving well for a while by helping her monitor Ruby. He sent her updates all the time. The information was not very useful, but she could see he was trying to change.
Daniel could tell she was determined to get up, so he lifted the quilt and helped her get dressed.
"You take good care of me," Chantelle said once she was dressed.
A hint of mischief flashed in his eyes. "Then will my wife give me a reward?"
He leaned forward until their faces were close, silently asking for a kiss. It wasn’t a forceful request, just a gentle one.
She pushed him away and laughed. "Keep trying."
"Sir," Ashton called from outside the door.
The eagerness in Daniel’s eyes disappeared instantly. He quickly put on a serious expression and got dressed before opening the door.
Ashton stood outside with his head lowered. "Mr. Bently is making a scene at the door..."
"You can’t even handle something that simple? Do you want to be sent to the trenches?" Daniel’s voice was sharp. Ashton didn’t need to look up to feel the pressure of his glare.
He wanted to argue so badly. "We can’t lay a hand on him. He’s still Mrs. Wilson’s father. Men are like feral dogs. They bite no matter what you do."
There were several bite marks on his hand.
Chantelle saw the deep teeth marks and pushed Daniel aside. "Go get a rabies vaccine."
Ashton was Daniel’s right hand. She refused to take responsibility if anything happened to him.
"Chantelle! My daughter! Help me!" The moment Roman saw her, he shoved the two security guards holding him and rushed toward her.
She frowned when someone stood in front of her.
Roman came to a halt the moment he saw Daniel’s cold stare. He was terrified of his son-in-law and would never dare act out in front of him.
"Say what you came to say." Daniel shot him a hard look, then turned to Chantelle with a gentle smile and guided her to the couch.
Roman noticed how easily Daniel switched his attitude and muttered inwardly, "So what if you’re powerful? You’re still obedient to my daughter."
Chantelle hated hearing him call her his daughter. For more than twenty years, he had never treated her like one. Every interaction had been filled with cold looks, scolding, and commands.
He had become a smooth talker ever since he went bankrupt. Unfortunately, she doesn’t care about him anymore.
"You have to save me, sweetheart. I’ve had one bad thing happen after another. Disaster follows me everywhere."
He lifted his sleeve to show her. "This happened when I was cooking a few days ago. The oil in the pan caught on fire. I got blisters from it."
Then he pulled up his pant leg. "I fell on flat ground the day before. My leg almost broke."
The more he talked, the more frightened he seemed. He then tried to lift his T-shirt to show more, but Daniel kicked him to the ground before he could.
"Okay, okay. You don’t want to see it. But the scariest thing happened this morning. While I was driving, the truck in front of me suddenly braked. Five steel bars shot straight through my car. One of them almost went through my head."
He broke out in a cold sweat, yet the couple didn’t react at all. Their expressions made it clear they were only waiting for him to say what he wanted. Neither of them cared about the stories he was trying to sell.
"I’m telling the truth. Why won’t you believe me? I know I treated you badly, Chantie. But I’ve changed. I won’t be that person again, so please save me."
Roman looked terrified and seemed ready to kneel.
Chantelle noticed he didn’t appear to be lying and asked, "Did you offend anyone recently? Are you sure someone isn’t trying to get back at you?"
"No! I’ve been keeping a low profile now."
"What about Ruby and her partner?" She raised her eyebrow.
"I thought the same thing, so I went to her place to beat her and that cheating husband of hers, but she swore it wasn’t her. She even ran all the way here. The security guards still couldn’t get her to leave. She insists on seeing you." He said angrily. He was thinking about how his daughter treated him much better than Ruby ever did.
How crazy was that woman to show up at Chantelle’s house demanding answers?
