Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 262: Never Betray
Seraphina Redgrave rose from an ordinary civilian background to her current position in The Law Council.
This alone was enough to astonish everyone.
As more citizens gathered, waves of security personnel were dispatched one after another.
They forcefully created several pathways through the crowd to ensure smooth passage.
A nanny car was parked beside the road leading to the square, with its door wide open. On the sofa by the door sat a young girl, dressed clean and fresh, her long hair tied high, looking quite different from the congress members in their formal suits.
Seraphina Redgrave sat quietly there, using the sunlight for one final review of her speech script.
She could memorize things at first glance, so reading the script multiple times wasn’t for memorization but to refine it further.
Nathan Ayers and Nanny Lynch sat in front of Seraphina, Nathan at the driver’s seat, and Nanny Lynch at the passenger seat, both feeling quite nervous, particularly Nanny Lynch, whose fingers were tightly gripping the seatbelt.
"Miss, it’s almost time; you can prepare to step out now," Nathan Ayers reminded.
"Alright."
Seraphina Redgrave put down the script, gently exhaling.
"You can do it, Miss! I’m certain you will!" Nanny Lynch’s palms were sweaty, clutching her fist and cheering for Seraphina, feeling both nervous and joyful, like watching her own daughter.
However, Seraphina’s expression remained unchanged, calm, as if she wasn’t the one about to step on stage.
"Hmm." Seraphina nodded towards Nanny Lynch, showing her first smile of the day.
After checking her attire once more, she got off the car, ensuring everything was in place.
"Seraphina!"
A call echoed in the distance.
Seraphina looked up, drawn by the voice, and saw Ronan Yates, Beatrice Fawcett, and several other members of The Defiance Society lined up in front of her. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
They were formally dressed, all in suits, looking more like they were attending a business meeting than listening to a speech.
After saying goodbye at the bar that day, Seraphina deliberately did not contact them.
They weren’t foolish and could certainly infer from her conversation with Melody Lockwood. Hence, whether to stay or leave was entirely their choice, and she would not intervene.
Yet, they all had come today, which said everything.
"Seraphina, you’re looking so awesome today." Beatrice Fawcett approached, her eyes shining as she gazed at Seraphina.
"Have you all thought it through?" Seraphina looked at them.
Her words were direct, causing Rory and Claire Ford to lower their heads awkwardly, while Ronan Yates earnestly replied, "After we left that day, we indeed thought about many things and had various guesses. But I made my decision long ago; no matter what Seraphina’s identity is, I will follow you for life and never betray you."
"Me too!" Beatrice Fawcett continued walking, brushing some dust off Seraphina’s shoulder.
"I’ve thought it through too. After spending time with Seraphina, you’re smart and just. You wouldn’t harm us in any way; without you, we wouldn’t be who we are today. Since that’s the case, how could we abandon you?" James Lynch also chimed in.
"Exactly!"
"That’s what I thought too!"
Everyone responded one after another.
Feeling their trust brought a trace of joy to Seraphina’s brows, "I’m grateful for your trust. If one day I truly were to harm you, you could protect yourselves by any means, and I wouldn’t blame you."
Seraphina never expected this statement to prove true so quickly.
"Seraphina..." Beatrice Fawcett frowned in disapproval, "Today is your important speech day; why say such negative words?"
"Indeed." Rory extended her chubby hand, "Let’s cheer for Seraphina together!"
"Alright, alright!"
Members of The Defiance Society placed their hands together one after another, stacking them.
They turned their bright, expectant eyes towards Seraphina.
She laughed, walked over, and placed her hand on top of theirs, at the highest spot.
"Seraphina will succeed! The Defiance Society will succeed!"
Everyone exerted all their strength in their cheers, as though in a competition.
"The camaraderie in The Defiance Society is really good; I’m so envious, like you’re a family."
Amidst this atmosphere emerged a soft female voice.
Seraphina looked to find Selena Quinn standing there, speaking, her hair tossed around by the wind but failing to hide her ethereal grace.
Beside her stood Serena Lowell, who wasn’t as composed as Selena, openly displaying her disdain for Seraphina, glaring at her with malice.
"Oh, isn’t that the president of Elite Society who got crushed by The Defiance Society?" Ronan Yates stepped forward, sarcastically commenting.
Despite the harsh words, Selena Quinn’s expression remained unchanged, her smile warm and gentle.
She moved towards Seraphina, while Ronan Yates and Beatrice Fawcett unceremoniously blocked her way, preventing her from getting closer.
"What are you doing? Why are you guarding against me like I’m a thief?" Selena Quinn’s aggrieved voice sounded.
"Why not think about all the troublesome things Elite Society has done; you choose to delve into those shady paths," Ronan Yates retorted without mercy.
"I suggest you stay far from Seraphina," Beatrice Fawcett coldly warned.
"You’ve misunderstood; I’m here to cheer for Sylvia, not for anything else."
Selena Quinn didn’t push forward, standing her ground, her eyes sincere, "Sylvia, you’re truly my idol. Since entering Sovereign University, you’ve completely relied on yourself to establish The Defiance Society, entered The Law Council, and gained so much support. These are all things I can’t hope to achieve; I have to learn from you. How could I harm you? I believe soon you’ll be one of the most influential figures in our country!"
After hearing all this, Seraphina pulled out a mocking smile, "I want to learn from you too, how to achieve nothing and still act so natural; that’s really impressive."
Anger flashed in Selena Quinn’s eyes briefly but quickly disappeared; she nodded with feigned strength, "It seems challenging to clarify the misunderstandings between us. If that’s the case, I can only wish you success in your speech."
With that, Selena Quinn appeared to have no more intentions, turning to leave.
Serena Lowell seemed to make a determined effort, suddenly rushing towards Seraphina, using brute force to push aside Ronan Yates and Beatrice Fawcett, shouting, "Sylvia Shaw, I’m going to kill you! Because of you, I’ve lost everything! No school will take me anymore! I’m going to kill you!"
Seraphina nimbly stepped aside, dodging her grasp and firmly twisting, making it impossible for her to move.
