Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 263: Speech
"Serena!"
Selena Quinn looked at her in surprise, quickly rushed up to stop Serena Lowell, and her wrist seemed to unintentionally brush against Seraphina Redgrave’s wrist. She angrily said, "Serena, can’t you stop causing trouble?"
Seraphina Redgrave directly twisted her arm back, and Serena Lowell screamed in pain, falling heavily to the ground.
Selena Quinn’s body was as fragile as a piece of paper, and she fell to the ground as well, making both of them appear extremely ridiculous.
"Haha, serves them right!"
Ronan Yates laughed mercilessly, then walked over to Seraphina Redgrave, "Seraphina, don’t waste any more time with them, you need to prepare to go on stage."
"Okay."
Seraphina nodded, not even sparing them a glance, and turned to leave.
She suddenly looked down at her wrist, noticing that the previously shiny bracelet seemed to have water on it.
Strange, she clearly hadn’t touched any water.
Just as Seraphina was about to wipe it off, her phone suddenly vibrated. She took it out and saw it was Ethan Sterling calling. She answered and brought it to her ear, "What’s up? Aren’t you in a meeting right now?"
"Has it started?" Ethan was referring to the speech.
Seraphina felt Ethan’s tone was somewhat heavy, different from usual, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong.
"I’m waiting backstage, about to go on."
Seraphina wanted to ask what was wrong but thought better of it and remained silent.
"Has the security on site been confirmed?" Ethan asked again, "And the citizens who came to listen to the speech, are you sure there’s no problem with their identities?"
"What’s the matter?" These things had already been confirmed multiple times, but Ethan still seemed worried.
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Ethan said, "I suddenly feel a bit uneasy, my instinct tells me something will happen."
Shouldn’t he be more worried about himself first? Why is he concerned about her situation?
Seraphina looked up at the citizens waiting below the stage and said, "Be careful, okay?"
"You be careful too."
Both of their voices rang out simultaneously.
Seraphina chuckled lightly, "Okay, I’ll be careful. I need to go on stage now, I’ll call you later."
Ethan agreed with a deep voice, then suddenly said again, "Wait."
Seraphina paused, about to put down her phone, and listened to him speak, "Seraphina, when I return to the country, just confess your feelings to me, don’t wait any longer."
"..."
Seraphina was left speechless.
What does he mean by not waiting any longer and having her confess her feelings?
Seraphina found it both amusing and annoying, didn’t answer the question, quickly ended the call, straightened her outfit one last time, and then stepped up the stairs, walking toward her own stage.
The Defiance Society members stood in a line at the closest place to the stage, all of them full of ambition, watching Seraphina Redgrave ascend to the stage step by step, watching her fulfill their revival hopes.
The sun shone brightly, casting its light on Seraphina Redgrave, making her seem as if she was glowing.
Thunderous applause erupted from the audience below, as if the speech was already done.
Selena Quinn found a seat close to the stage, looking at the woman on the stage, her eyes filled with madness.
Seraphina first bowed to the audience in attendance, then walked to the podium, with the statue of Themis behind her glimmering under the sunlight.
In front of Seraphina was a sea of people. The people in the back even stood up to get a clearer view of Seraphina. Numerous cameras were fixed on her, making it quite the scene.
The sunlight softened Seraphina’s features, and under the sunlight, she seemed about to merge with the goddess Themis, exuding a sense of sanctity.
"There’s no absolute fairness in this world, but doesn’t the law grant us the right to uphold fairness? Having embarked on this path, I will not turn back. I will do everything in my power to uphold the dignity of the law and reduce the sacrifices made under power; this is the promise I can give to everyone and I hope you can grant me your trust."
Seraphina concluded with these words, each note clear and powerful.
After she finished speaking, there was a moment of silence below, followed by thunderstorms of applause, especially from The Defiance Society members, who clapped until their hands turned red without even realizing it.
Farther away, Nathan Ayers and Nanny Lynch stood in front of a car, listening to Seraphina Redgrave’s speech, and clapped with satisfaction, especially Nanny Lynch, whose eyes turned red with excitement.
"This is the true young lady, she belongs to a bigger world, not a small Hibiscus Garden." Nanny Lynch wiped a tear with the back of her hand.
Hearing this, Nathan Ayers retracted his smile. He couldn’t help but worry. Seraphina Redgrave indeed shone brightly now, but what about afterward? Can she truly proceed step by step as she wished? Can she rebuild Veridian Isle?
If she failed, it wouldn’t only be her who suffered, but also Young Master Sterling.
But at this point, worrying was useless; he could only pray that things truly went as they hoped.
Nathan Ayers took out his phone to report the situation on site to Ethan Sterling. The words ’great conclusion’ hadn’t been sent yet when he heard a weak female voice, amplified by the equipment, resonating throughout the square.
"I have a question."
It was now the audience’s question-and-answer session.
Seraphina Redgrave stood on the podium, hearing these words, and looked toward where a figure stood up. It was a woman cloaked in black, her fingers under the cloak were dry and emaciated, unnaturally pale.
With her other hand, she slowly removed her hat, revealing a face that was extremely pale and horrifying.
Mia Redgrave.
"!"
Seraphina’s fingers clenched tightly.
How could she be here? There’s no way she could have escaped from Veridian Isle.
Mia stood among the crowd, instantly drawing everyone’s attention. Her lips were so dry they were covered in dead skin, and a slight tug brought forth beads of blood.
"Why did you choose to hold your first speech here?"
This scene felt eerily familiar, like when Jonathan Redgrave was giving a speech and Seraphina had wrecked everything.
Seraphina coldly watched her, suddenly hearing a faint cracking sound.
She glanced at her wrist, noticing that fine cracks were appearing on the surface of the once smooth bracelet, and the cracks were increasing in number.
"Is it because the first piece of legislation regarding Veridian Isle was announced here?" Mia’s tone grew increasingly aggressive, "You went through so much to enter The Law Council, trying to become a senator, just to help that group of bastards from Veridian Isle change their identity, right?"
The audience was puzzled; how did a simple speech get related to Veridian Isle?
"Isn’t she Mia Redgrave?" Ronan Yates’s eyes widened, staring at her like she was a ghost. Mia always had bad blood with Seraphina; what was she planning this time?
