Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 295: Giving Up Everything?
Seraphina Redgrave stood before them, somewhat weak, but still forcing herself to stay strong.
Looking at their still somewhat youthful faces, all bearing injuries, they had gotten themselves into this state to save her.
"Today, consider yourselves never having been here. Also, you have reported all the crimes of the escaped convict Seraphina Redgrave from Veridian Isle. We no longer have any connection."
Upon hearing this, Ronan Yates became anxious, "Seraphina, we reported not to absolve guilt, but to..."
"I am now in the identity of a dead person."
Seraphina interrupted directly.
"What?"
Everyone’s puzzled gazes gathered on her, not understanding what she meant by being a dead person.
"Seraphina Redgrave has already been burned alive; there is no longer a Seraphina Redgrave in this world." Her expression remained unchanged as she explained, as if she was not speaking about herself.
Ethan Sterling stood beside her, seriously pondering her expression, wondering how willing she was? It seemed like completely willing.
She had actually agreed to belong to him forever just like that.
Ethan quietly curled his lips, feeling somewhat delighted in his heart.
It seems this escape was quite worthwhile, particularly worth it.
The members of The Defiance Society looked at Seraphina and instantly understood her meaning—they were to fake a death.
Beatrice Fawcett looked at Seraphina with a very complex gaze, "Seraphina, what about the things you previously said you wanted us to help with, do we still..."
"No need to help anymore."
Why would a person who is already dead still need help? Help to pray perhaps?
"Then what about the place you once said you wanted to rebuild?"
Claire Ford looked at her in a daze, how was she supposed to rebuild that place?
Seraphina also shook her head, "I don’t need to do it anymore."
Ronan Yates stood where he was, looking at Seraphina, a bitterness in his heart. He irritably grabbed his hair; the more he thought about before, the more something seemed off, "But Seraphina, you also said before that you wanted to rewrite the law, you studied law and got an S in it, and you joined The Law Council, are you giving up all these honors?"
Yes, giving them all up?
Seraphina had also asked herself the same question.
"But living is more important than all of that," she said softly, as if she truly did not care about losing everything.
"But you’ve sacrificed so much..."
"Who said sacrifice necessarily yields results? I’ve gained so much, already very satisfied."
Seraphina interrupted him.
The members of The Defiance Society froze where they were, the joy of reunion having entirely vanished.
Beatrice Fawcett glanced at Ethan Sterling, then at Miles Harrington, finally her gaze landed on the pale face of Seraphina and she asked with difficulty, "So, Seraphina, does this mean we can never meet again?"
Her words rang in their ears, Ronan Yates stood there stunned, eyes wide in disbelief at the prospect of never meeting again.
Seraphina nodded without speaking, tacitly agreeing.
Claire Ford, the least capable of hiding her emotions, had her eyes flooded with tears in an instant, big drops rolling down.
"Really, never see each other again?"
The future is so long, really never see each other again.
Seraphina went to the table and took several bottles of water, handing them each one by one.
After handing them out, Seraphina intended to twist open her own bottle cap.
But she couldn’t twist it open, lacking the strength.
A large hand took the bottle from hers, Ethan Sterling effortlessly twisted open the cap, then handed it back to her.
Seraphina smiled as she took the water and then raised it towards everyone, "There are many things that cannot be said here, but I must go. Since there is no wine now, I can only use water as a substitute, simply bid you farewell, hoping everyone’s future is brilliant and bright."
This isn’t just a farewell, it’s a permanent goodbye.
The members of The Defiance Society hesitantly held the water in their hands, not knowing what to say, but this method is indeed the best for Seraphina.
Given the current situation, being alive is already the best ending.
With their current abilities, they couldn’t possibly save her.
Everyone twisted open the bottle caps, and pure water splashed from the bottle mouths, getting on their hands.
Seraphina tilted her head back and drank a sip of water; several young women embraced, crying inconsolably, Claire Ford rushed over and hugged her tightly.
"..."
Seraphina’s wound ached from the embrace, tearing painfully, yet she didn’t push away, just gritted her teeth and held on.
Miles Harrington stood by watching the crying crowd, feeling somewhat emotional, it’s really been a long time since he saw such a scene, a true one solely filled with affection without any shred of profit or ulterior motives.
"Cry as if someone has died, but I never said I would just let these students go like that," Miles Harrington interrupted their cries.
Seraphina let go of Claire Ford and then looked at Miles Harrington, smiled slightly, and firmly said, "You will let them go."
"Why?"
Miles Harrington raised an eyebrow.
"If you don’t let them go, Ethan Sterling won’t let you off." Seraphina believed in Ethan.
Miles Harrington actually laughed, "Do you think Ethan is some great altruist? Would he trouble me for such unrelated people?"
Doesn’t Seraphina know how ruthless Ethan can be?
Seraphina ignored his disdain, walked to Ethan’s side, interlocked her fingers with his, and met his gaze.
Ethan watched her seamless movement, feeling himself melt. It’s safe to say he was in a position where if Seraphina asked him to head west, he would definitely not go east.
He held her small hand tightly, looked at Miles Harrington, "That’s right, I’ll protect this group of students."
Just a few students.
His little friend asked him to do it, so he would.
"..."
Miles Harrington had a moment of frustration whether to speak out or not but suppressed it; he casually waved his hand, "Fine, suit yourselves, no one’s going to care about me anyway."
What is this? 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
He turned out to be a president no one could move, could he be considered the most frustrated president in history?
...
Separating from Miles Harrington’s convoy, Seraphina and Ethan quietly switched to another car.
Seraphina sat in the upscale leather seat, relieved of all heavy restraints, feeling extraordinarily relaxed.
She watched as the scenery outside the window kept retreating, feeling like she hadn’t seen it in a long time.
Suddenly the hand on her leg was clasped by a rough palm; she turned her head and collided into a pair of amber eyes.
Then her face was held; Seraphina turned her gaze away, feeling Ethan steadily approaching, gently directing her to look at him again.
The familiar touch slowly landed on her lips; Ethan tenderly kissed her, bit by bit, as if to consume her.
Slowly, the kiss grew deeper, Ethan’s breath increasingly evident.
Seraphina closed her eyes, savoring his taste.
