Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 729: Do You Like Me Now?
Cynthia Ramsey didn’t expect Miles Sterling to contact her proactively. She immediately replied, saying: "What’s wrong? I took them at the seaside some time ago, but I don’t remember the exact location."
Miles Sterling: I need the address.
Although Cynthia was a bit confused, she replied readily: Wait a moment, I’ll ask the staff from that day.
While waiting for the information, Miles repeatedly enlarged the screenshot to examine it closely.
The girl clearly had short hair, and her face was not visible, but for some reason, he had a strong premonition in his heart that the girl was Vanessa Sterling.
After the initial excitement, fear set in, fearing that this hope that had inexplicably rekindled in him might just be wishful thinking.
It’s been such a long time. If she were indeed still alive, there would always be traces of her life left behind. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Yet, he had never stopped tracking her, but there was no information at all.
But then he thought, Vanessa had her accident at sea, and this video was taken at the seaside. What if she was lucky enough to be rescued back then? It wasn’t impossible...
Soon, Cynthia sent over the address from that day and then asked what Miles planned to do.
Miles didn’t answer. Instead, he immediately booked a flight ticket on his phone, called a servant to take care of Blackie, and set off for the airport.
While waiting for his flight at the airport, he checked the location on his phone. The address was far from the accident site, and if she had drifted there with the tide, the chance of survival was almost zero.
Miles looked at the photo again, starting to feel uncertain.
Despite his impulsive decision to rush over, even if he made it there, he might not find the girl from the video. And even if he did find her, the chance that she was Vanessa Sterling was slim to none.
What was he even doing? It felt like he was going crazy. Yet, he wasn’t willing to extinguish this spark of hope that had rekindled. It was a way to deceive himself, to give himself a reason to keep going.
Sitting on the plane, his mind was completely blank, utterly unaware of what he was thinking.
He started imagining that the girl was indeed Vanessa, imagining that she hadn’t died back then.
But rather, she had used the accident to escape, not wanting to come back to him...
Thinking about this, Miles didn’t know whether to feel happy or sad.
If she was still alive, would she be willing to come back with him?
He thought that if she could indeed appear in front of him alive and well, he would treat her better henceforth.
If she had indeed orchestrated her fake death, with her capabilities, it wouldn’t have been possible to leave absolutely no trace.
As long as she lived, she would need to lead a life, and life would leave traces. Yet, he hadn’t found anything in so long.
This meant that someone was definitely helping her behind the scenes.
The most likely person was Audrey Sutton. They were very close, and Vanessa shared everything with Audrey.
And Audrey’s support came from Shane. If someone wanted to disappear and live quietly elsewhere, Shane had the means to make it happen.
Thinking about all this, Miles felt invigorated once more.
He no longer wanted to dwell on how Vanessa had planned her disappearance. He only hoped that she was indeed alive...
After a nearly two-hour flight, the plane touched down at the airport.
The temperature here was noticeably warmer, with most people wearing light jackets, and some even in short sleeves.
Miles didn’t find a hotel to rest near the airport. Instead, he checked the route and took a taxi to the train station. It would take another three-hour train ride to reach his destination.
On the ride, he wasn’t sleepy at all, lost in complex thoughts about everything.
He considered the best possible outcome and prepared for the worst-case scenario.
By the time he reached the destination station, it was close to 4 a.m.
He took a taxi from the station directly to the place where Cynthia had taken those photos.
He found the beach and the spot where the girl had been painting.
Although it was not as bustling as daytime, the beach still had young people eating barbecue, singing, and chatting.
Miles stood on the shore, looking around, suddenly feeling lost about where to begin his search for the girl.
If the girl was just a tourist who had already left the city, then his chances of finding her were almost zero.
Moreover, he still couldn’t confirm that the girl was Vanessa Sterling.
There were many hotels along the shore, and Miles, feeling exhausted, picked one with the best view to stay in.
Standing by the room’s floor-to-ceiling window, he could almost take in the entire scene on the beach.
He decided to stay for a few more days, hoping for some luck.
At 5 a.m., Vanessa Sterling woke up from a nightmare.
She dreamt of Miles Sterling, dreaming that he found her. The instant his face appeared in the dream, she woke up, relieved it was just a dream.
She sat on the bed holding the blanket for a while before regaining her composure, looking at the time, undecided whether to go back to sleep or not.
She picked up her fully charged phone from the bedside, checking it. Besides occasional inquiries from Audrey Sutton, she had no one else to contact.
Glancing over her long-discontinued comic, she saw that comments from readers kept coming every day, sharing their experiences, happy or sad.
She would sometimes find herself browsing these comments, feeling guilty for those readers who still liked her work.
However, opportunities for her to return to the public eye were likely over now.
Just before 6 a.m., she heard noises outside, knowing it was Jasper Jones getting up to prepare breakfast.
So Vanessa put down her phone, got up, and went downstairs after washing up and changing clothes.
Jasper looked up at her, smiling, and asked, "Why are you up so early today?"
Vanessa ruffled her hair, smiling back: "The early bird catches the worm."
Jasper chuckled and then diverted his gaze thoughtfully, seeming like he had something to say but didn’t know how to start.
Vanessa walked over, picked up a glass, and poured some warm water. Just as she brought the glass to her lips, she heard Jasper say: "... Vanessa, there’s something I want to discuss with you."
Vanessa paused for a moment, looking up at him: "What’s up?"
Jasper pursed his lips, turned off the heat, seemingly ready for a serious conversation, looked Vanessa directly in the eyes, and took a deep breath: "... Do you like me now?"
Vanessa was suddenly startled, looking at Jasper with surprise. Evidently, she hadn’t expected him to bring up a topic she had been avoiding so early in the morning.
Jasper knew this question might be difficult for Vanessa, but he no longer wanted her to keep avoiding it, so he pressed on: "Would you accept my confession now?"
