Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 789: The 1.8-Meter-Tall Girl
The Rivia Clothing Wholesale Market is a full nine stories high, offering apparel for everyone from children to the elderly.
As the largest clothing wholesale market in the country, every day sees business owners from all over the nation coming here to pick out and buy stock.
It’s Scott Sutton’s first time visiting such a place. The storefronts aren’t exactly spacious nor are they decorated—basically, clothes are just hung up on racks, and the narrow aisles are cluttered with goods. Everyone works busily yet fruitfully in this environment.
He usually doesn’t have the chance to visit places like this, so seeing this unique market and environment, Scott Sutton finds it somewhat interesting.
Today, he’s wearing a rather understated gray and white sporty outfit. In this place where everyone is dressed relatively fashionably, he’s considered quite plainly dressed.
However, standing at over six feet tall with long hair, he still attracts curious glances from others.
Some are curious if this person is male or female; others wonder how this girl got so tall.
Scott Sutton has long been used to such stares and simply follows his target from a distance.
Originally, he intended to try his luck near the residential area where the girl lived, not sure if he would encounter her.
Unexpectedly, he saw her halfway, riding the same little electric scooter as before, leisurely passing by on the roadside.
Scott Sutton followed her all the way here to this clothing town.
The first three floors of the clothing town are all women’s clothing stores, and the girl has been shopping inside for a while, seemingly selecting goods.
She seems to be a regular here, as she can chat with people around her wherever she goes, appearing to be a very cheerful girl.
"Hey, girl, what style are you looking for? Come in and take a look." An older lady in a nearby store suddenly calls out to Scott Sutton.
Scott Sutton hasn’t reacted yet when the older lady points to the sleek lace dress on the mannequin outside the store and says, "This is a new spring item for this year, very trendy. With your tall and slender figure, it will definitely look great on you!"
Scott Sutton forces a smile. He fears that speaking and revealing himself to be a man might cause unnecessary awkwardness, so he just gestures to politely decline.
The lady quickly resumes her pitch, saying, "Do you like androgynous styles? I have some in my store too. Come in and take a look."
Seeing the girl heading towards the corner, Scott Sutton, worried about losing her, declines again and strides in the direction she disappeared.
Similar situations keep occurring along the way.
It’s not the others’ fault, just that he lingers in the women’s clothing area.
By around four o’clock in the afternoon, the girl leisurely rides her little scooter back home.
For some reason, Scott Sutton feels curious to learn a bit about this girl.
As the girl enters the building, Scott Sutton gets ready to follow, only to see she seems to have met an acquaintance, chatting with a young woman about her age near the building’s bulletin board.
From afar, Scott Sutton overhears the girl say, "I’m planning to rent out my room too."
The young woman asks, "Are you moving out?"
The girl shakes her head, "No, I’m just freeing up a room, looking for someone to share and split the utility bills. It should be easy to rent out next to the school. I’ll post a rental ad shortly to try my luck."
The young woman advises, "You’re a young woman, maybe you shouldn’t co-rent. It’s not safe. I’m moving in with my boyfriend, so I’m only renting out the place now that it’s vacant."
The girl smiles, "Don’t worry, I’ll specify that I’m only looking for female tenants. It’s somewhat inconvenient to co-rent with guys."
The young woman smiles wryly, "Evelyn, I’m just saying, you earn quite a bit, why are you still so financially savvy?"
Evelyn Linton smiles and says, "There are many uses for money. Spend it wisely and save when you can."
After the young woman posts the rental ad, the two get into the elevator and head upstairs.
Scott Sutton then approaches the bulletin board, noticing it full of rental ads.
Given its proximity to the school, many people buy houses here specifically to rent them out.
He recalls hearing that girl, named Evelyn, mention looking for a co-tenant. This might be a good opportunity for him to get to know her better.
Scott Sutton sits on a chair against the wall in the lobby, pretending to wait for someone while playing with his phone.
People frequently come and go from the elevator, and after about twenty minutes, Scott Sutton sees the girl emerge from it again.
The girl walks straight to the bulletin board, peels off the double-sided tape from the back of a paper, and finds a corner to stick it up before cheerfully heading back upstairs.
Scott Sutton walks up to the rental ad and sees it’s clearly written that a bedroom is available, fully furnished, utilities split, move in with just your bags, rent negotiable.
Requirement: females only.
The contact person is listed as Miss Linton, followed by her phone number.
Scott Sutton takes down Evelyn Linton’s ad, folds it, and puts it into his bag, before pulling his jacket’s zipper up to the top to cover his Adam’s apple. Then he lingers for a few more minutes before following a group of people into the elevator.
He easily finds the apartment according to the floor and unit number on the paper.
"Ding-dong—"
After waiting a few seconds, with no response, Scott Sutton presses the doorbell again.
Then he faintly hears the voice of the girl inside, "Coming, coming! Wait a moment!"
After a while, he hears footsteps. Soon, the door opens, and he sees Evelyn Linton holding a towel to her head, with some white foam visible by her ears. It’s apparent she was in the middle of washing her hair when the doorbell interrupted her.
"...Who are you?" Evelyn Linton looks up at this person standing half a head taller than her at the door and asks.
Since no one typically comes to her door apart from delivery and takeout, and considering her recent rental ad shouldn’t have been responded to so quickly.
Scott Sutton doesn’t speak, but simply shows the rental ad from his pocket to indicate his purpose.
Evelyn understands with a smile, "For the room? You have good timing—I just posted the ad and you’re already here. Come on in."
Standing at the door, Scott Sutton peeks inside and is, to be honest, taken aback by the scene.
The apartment’s layout isn’t particularly special, but it’s filled to look like a storage room.
The living room doesn’t have much furniture but instead is crowded with clothing racks, with a pile of packed delivery boxes by the entrance.
Noticing Scott Sutton’s surprise, Evelyn Linton quickly explains, "I sell clothes, hence the clutter in the living room. But the bedroom is upstairs; it’s spacious and clean, complete with a private balcony and bathroom. Let me show you."
Scott Sutton nods, hesitates at the door for a moment, then steps in without changing shoes when he notices Evelyn Linton isn’t asking him to. He follows her up to the second floor.
