Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 362 - 354: Sigmund’s True Situation
Crimson Tower, inside the Duke’s study.
A slightly plump Sigmund was bent over a large desk, fully engrossed in writing and drawing on a piece of parchment, sketching out calculations for a magic array that delved into the realm of soul purification.
Knock knock—
A cautious knocking at the door interrupted his deeply focused thoughts.
"Come in!" he replied without lifting his head.
The newly appointed adjutant pushed the door open, carrying a square package inscribed with sealing magic, and carefully placed it in the open space on the desk.
Sigmund looked up from the complex array, his gaze sweeping over the package with a hint of puzzlement: "What is this?"
"Sir, have you forgotten? This was the item you personally ordered to be sent urgently through special channels, with the highest priority," the adjutant respectfully replied, knowing only this much as he had no authority to know the contents of the package.
Sigmund instantly understood; it must be another item procured by his "roommate" using his name.
"Retrieve its transport route and all handlers’ records..." Sigmund instinctively began, wanting to trace the origin.
"Shall I fetch the detailed circulation records and the list of contact personnel for this item?" the adjutant immediately added with concern and professionalism.
However, as the words reached his lips, Sigmund hesitated. After a moment of silence, he finally said, "Never mind. You may leave."
A flicker of surprise crossed the adjutant’s eyes, but he wisely refrained from asking further, bowing and quietly exiting the study.
Indeed, Sigmund had wanted to trace the package’s origin to explore the background of this mysterious "roommate" whose name he didn’t even know.
But he quickly abandoned the tempting idea.
Since there was currently no way to expel the other from his body and soul, was uncovering the source any meaningful?
It might only provoke the entity, inviting more troublesome retaliation.
For instance, last time, he ordered the removal of all sugary products from the tower to curb his continued weight gain. What happened?
When he regained control of his body, the precious tome he had been studying was covered in pure black, rendering the contents unreadable.
Yet he still curiously asked, "What’s inside?"
That annoying, yet somewhat familiar voice echoed in his mind, "Something delicious, want to try it?"
Hearing this, Sigmund’s mouth twitched, at a loss for words. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
He decisively averted his gaze, refocusing on the unfinished magic array, as if the mysterious package didn’t exist.
After several days of deduction and calculation, Sigmund finally perfected the soul purification magic array in his hands, which, though not overly complex, was highly targeted.
Using precious materials prepared in advance, he personally drew the array on the floor in the secret ritual room at the bottom of the Crimson Tower.
Throughout the entire process, Lin Jun refrained from interference, instead watching with keen interest, gleaning new knowledge about souls and magic arrays through Sigmund’s senses.
As the magic array was ultimately activated, a ghostly blue light illuminated the grooves, a peculiar sensation coursed through Sigmund and Lin Jun’s spirit bodies.
It was an indescribable refreshing feeling, like dipping burning fingers into a cool, clear mountain stream, offering a moment of calm and purification.
After the momentary pleasant sensation subsided, Lin Jun timely consoled, "Sig, don’t be discouraged, we can try another next time!"
Sigmund ignored Lin Jun; deep inside, he silently crossed out the possibility of Lin Jun being some evil spirit needing purification.
His hatred for Lin Jun had long been ingrained in his bones, stemming not only from the forced occupation of his body, but also from Lin Jun’s near-humiliating, arrogant attitude of letting him search for a solution!
This damn existence dared to hold him in such contempt!
Sigmund vowed in his heart that sooner or later, he would make Lin Jun pay dearly for this arrogance.
What he didn’t know, however, was that Lin Jun accompanied his actions not out of arrogance.
Partly, it was to avoid pushing Sigmund into a dead end.
On the other hand, Lin Jun couldn’t escape!
From the unique perspective of Spiritual Vision, not only was a part of Sigmund’s soul directly bonded to Lin Jun’s soul, but Sigmund’s entire spirit body appeared engulfed by Lin Jun.
Unless Lin Jun’s soul portion could be instantly annihilated, Lin Jun could quickly suppress it, akin to how the Yellow-covered Book ended up.
Ignoring the minute possibility of instantly obliterating Lin Jun’s soul, even if such a method existed, Sigmund, whose soul was tightly intertwined with Lin Jun’s, could not remain unharmed; destruction was inevitable.
Sadly, Sigmund lacked the ability for Spiritual Vision, unable to visually assess his soul’s pitiable plight since the "Strange Dream" ceased.
Lin Jun "kindly" refrained from pointing this out; after all, if this guy knew the truth and fell into despair, deciding to give up or even terminate himself, Lin Jun would lose greatly.
Sigmund started planning the next magic ritual when the magic chimes at the tower’s top rang punctually, signaling the time for body control handover.
He felt his consciousness nudged aside, familiar detachment ensued, as his body control returned to that detestable "roommate."
At the moment of control transfer, "Sigmund’s" body seemed imbued with newfound vitality.
Lin Jun, disregarding the Duke’s dignity, almost sprinted out of the room, racing down the corridor back to the study where the package remained.
The unseemly act caught the eyes of guards and servants he passed by.
Banging the door shut, Lin Jun eagerly opened the package, revealing several jars sealed in magic bottles, filled with a deep, magnificent dark red liquid.
Lin Jun pried open a jar’s seal and tilted it back, gulping a large mouthful.
In that moment, an indescribable, ultimate deliciousness flooded the body, as if every cell rejoiced!
After a long indulgence, Lin Jun half-slumped in a chair, licking the corner of the mouth, satisfiyingly sighing.
Delicious Level 8, so this was the sensation.
Lin Jun now understood why they loved the delicious mushroom!
At that moment, Sigmund’s voice echoed in the mind, laced with disbelief and even a tremor, the emotion so intense it shattered the usual barrier between them:
"W-what blood is this? Where did you get it?!"
Lin Jun squinted with a slight grin, "I thought you didn’t care?"
