My Antique Mirror Is A Portal To Another World-Chapter 61: Spies
Chapter 61: Spies
Waiting outside the tent, Tan Pengtai stood patiently while the guarding soldier went inside to inform Feng Xiyan.
Before long, the soldier returned and said, "General Tan, the Great General invites you in."
Getting the permission, Tan Pengtai entered the tent. Seeing him approach with a serious expression, Feng Xiyan glanced at the wooden pieces in his hand.
Tan Pengtai clasped his fists and said, "Great General, this subordinate has something to report."
He then placed the wooden pieces and the confessions of the three spies on the long table.
As Feng Xiyan read the confessions, Tan Pengtai explained, "Last night, General Xue apprehended three suspicious men lurking near the side gate and the city wall."
"Upon searching their bodies, he found these wooden pieces and sent the three men to the underground prison. After interrogation, we confirmed that they were working for the Yuezhi Tribe. These are their confession letters, along with evidence of their collusion with the Yuezhi Tribe."
After years of fighting the Yuezhi Tribe, Feng Xiyan was fluent in their language. When he saw the symbols carved into the wooden pieces, his expression darkened.
Setting the confession letter down, he looked at Tan Pengtai and said, "They were trying to send news of our food and water supplies to Kai Mu. It seems we can no longer keep this a secret."
After a moment of silence, Tan Pengtai asked, "Great General, what should we do now?"
Feng Xiyan fell into deep thought for a long while before answering, "There are fewer than 12,000 soldiers in the Feng Army who are fit to fight. At this moment, our war horses are too weak for battle. Although we have received weapons and armor from Fairy Bai, we are heavily outnumbered."
"Once word spreads that Xiqiang City has food and water, Kai Mu will undoubtedly launch an attack, no matter the cost. Not only we, but the Yuezhi Tribe also can’t survive without food and water. Therefore, this next battle will be a matter of life and death—for both us and the Yuezhi Tribe."
Tan Pengtai’s heart sank upon hearing this. After a moment of silence, he asked, "Great General, what is your plan?"
While Feng Xiyan pondered how to buy more time for the Feng Army and deal with the Yuezhi Tribe, Bai Hanyun had just woken up.
As soon as she did, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID—Tan Hao—she picked it up.
"Hello?"
Hearing her hoarse voice, Tan Hao said, "Sorry to disturb you so early, Miss Bai."
"It’s alright. Brother Tan, is there something you need?" Bai Hanyun asked while walking to the bathroom. Putting the call on speaker, she began washing her face and brushing her teeth.
After she asked this, Tan Hao explained, "Miss Bai, I have just arrived at the location you gave me, but I don’t see anyone here."
When he said this, Bai Hanyun paused and said, "I will be there in fifteen minutes."
"Alright. Then I will wait for you here."
After ending the call, Bai Hanyun quickly finished washing up. Coming out of the bathroom, she grabbed her backpack and car keys and headed downstairs.
She went to the backyard and then walked straight to the tree where she had tied the antique mirror, pulled it out of the river, wiped it down with a cotton towel, and stuffed it into her backpack.
As Bai Hanyun stepped out of the main door, she saw Hua Yuyu practicing in the front yard.
Noticing her, he wiped off his sweat and asked, "Miss Bai, are you heading out?"
Bai Hanyun nodded. "Yes."
"Give me two minutes. I will go with you."
She nodded again and said, "Then I’m going to get the car."
"Alright."
While Hua Yuyu went to take a quick bath and change clothes, Bai Hanyun drove her car out of the garage. By the time she parked her car in front of the house, Hua Yuyu was already waiting there.
Too lazy to switch seats with him, Bai Hanyun motioned for him to take the passenger seat, then drove directly to the warehouse.
Ten minutes later, she parked in front of the warehouse and said, "Brother Hua, could you help me buy some breakfast for us?"
Looking at Tan Hao, who was waiting beside his truck, Hua Yuyu nodded. "Sure."
"Thank you." She said, and then transferred 300 yuan to him.
Once Hua Yuyu drove away, Bai Hanyun approached Tan Hao.
"I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, Brother Tan," she said apologetically.
Tan Hao smiled and waved his hand casually, "It’s alright. I haven’t waited long."
After saying that, he opened the truck’s container and added, "Miss Bai, I have brought you peas, pumpkin, and lettuce today. For fruits, I brought lychee and pears."
As he opened the wooden crates, Bai Hanyun inspected the produce.
Seeing that the vegetables and fruits were fresh and still had dew on them, she knew they had just been harvested.
Satisfied with the quality, she said, "I will take everything. Please move them into the warehouse, Brother Tan."
Hearing this, Tan Hao’s eyes lit up. He handed her the price list agreed upon with the villagers and said, "Miss Bai, here is the price list. The total comes to 110,000 yuan."
While Bai Hanyun checked the prices, Tan Hao turned to his friends and said, "Alright, brothers, let’s move the goods."
With more than a dozen people helping, they unloaded all the wooden crates and bags in no time.
After transferring the money, Bai Hanyun said, "Brother Tan, please deliver more vegetables and fruits in two days."
"No problem. I will make sure to bring the freshest vegetables and fruits to you." Tan Hao nodded and left with his team.
Now alone, Bai Hanyun hurried into the warehouse. Taking the antique mirror from her backpack, she tapped its frame twice.
When the surface cleared and showed a lake, she called out, "Feng Xiyan?"
Sitting by the stone boulder, Feng Wu heard her voice and immediately knelt in front of the bronze mirror.
