Chapter 219: Morning Ruined by Noise

Felix woke earlier than usual, sunlight spilling through the half-drawn curtains in soft golden stripes. He lay there for a moment, eyes fixed on the ceiling, letting the memories of last night drift back to him like an indulgent dream. The almost-kiss, her hesitant eyes, the way her breath had mingled with his, the subtle tremor in his own chest, played on a loop in his mind.

A quiet, uncharacteristic smile curved his lips. He exhaled slowly, the faintest laugh escaping him as he pushed himself upright. For once, there was no weight pressing down on his thoughts. He felt light, buoyant even, as if something warm had taken root in his chest overnight.

Padding across the room, he grabbed his robe and headed to the kitchen. The polished floors were cool beneath his bare feet, the faint smell of last night’s rain still clinging to the morning air seeping in from a cracked window.

He set the coffee machine to work, humming under his breath as he moved around the kitchen. It wasn’t a song he recognized, just something aimless, tuneful, and free. When the first rich scent of brewing coffee filled the air, he couldn’t help but do a small, ridiculous dance across the tiles, sliding a little on the smooth surface as he reached for a mug.

If anyone had been there to see him, they might have thought he’d lost his mind. But the house was empty anyway.

Felix poured his coffee, still humming, still smiling like a man with a secret, and leaned against the counter to take his first sip. The warmth slid down his throat, perfect, waking him fully. He closed his eyes briefly, savoring it.

And then-

A sharp, shrill voice cut through the stillness, carried in through the window.

Felix’s brow furrowed. At first, he thought it might be neighbors, but the tone was too familiar, too grating to be mistaken for anything else.

He set his cup down, frowning, and listened. More shouting. The sound of a man’s deeper voice trying to cut in, security, probably, and a high-pitched retort that followed like nails down glass.

Felix let out a long breath, his patience starting to wear thin.

Of course. Who else would be capable of causing a scene before breakfast?

He placed his coffee on the counter, tightened the belt of his robe, and strode toward the front door.

The morning air hit him first, cool but heavy with the lingering humidity of dawn. Birds were chirping somewhere in the distance, but their song was drowned out by the escalating noise at the gate.

Several members of the security team stood in a loose semicircle near the driveway, shoulders squared, their stances tense. In the middle of them, gesturing wildly with manicured hands and hair that looked too perfect for the hour, stood Lara.

Felix’s jaw tightened.

"What the hell is going on?" he barked, his voice carrying across the open space.

The heads of the security team snapped toward him immediately, relief flickering across their faces. Lara, on the other hand, lit up as if Christmas had come early.

"Felix!" she squealed, breaking through the circle of guards with a surprising burst of speed.

He barely had a second to react before she came barreling toward him, arms outstretched like she meant to throw herself into his embrace.

Felix stepped smoothly to the side.

Lara’s eyes went wide as her momentum carried her forward, the sharp click of her heels slipping against the smooth stone. She stumbled dangerously close to one of the decorative pillars, catching herself just in time with an ungraceful flail.

He didn’t bother hiding his smirk.

"Careful," he said dryly. "I’d hate for you to injure yourself before whatever stunt you’re trying to pull today."

She straightened quickly, brushing invisible dust from her designer blouse, her expression smoothing into a sugary smile.

"Oh, Felix, you’re so funny," she cooed, ignoring his tone entirely. "I just couldn’t wait another second to see you. It’s been far too long since we-" she paused for effect, tilting her head coyly- "spent any time together."

Felix arched a brow. "I’d say ’not long enough’ fits better."

Unfazed, she stepped closer, lowering her voice into something she probably thought was seductive. "You don’t have to play hard to get, fiancé. We both know how good we look together. I was just telling the guards that we should be planning our engagement party-"

"Fiancé?" Felix repeated, his tone slicing through her sentence. "Let me make something clear, Lara. That title exists only in your head."

Her smile faltered for the briefest moment, but she recovered quickly, forcing a laugh. "You always joke like that. It’s one of the things I adore about you."

Felix didn’t bother replying. Instead, he lifted a hand, gesturing toward the nearest guard.

"Get her out of here."

The words were calm, almost casual, but the command in them was absolute.

Two of the guards immediately stepped forward, each taking one of Lara’s arms.

Her eyes widened, her sugary tone evaporating. "Wait-what? You can’t just-Felix!"

He had already turned away, heading back toward the house.

"Felix!" she shouted again, struggling against the guards as they began to pull her toward the street. "You can’t treat me like this! Everyone knows we’re meant to be! You’re making a mistake!"

Her voice rose to a full-blown tantrum, echoing off the walls of the quiet neighborhood. She kicked her heels against the ground, twisted her body, anything to try to shake the guards off, but they didn’t so much as flinch.

Felix kept walking, his robe swaying with each step, his expression utterly indifferent.

"Felix! Look at me! You’ll regret this!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

If he heard her, he didn’t give any sign. His bare feet hit the cool marble of the entryway again, and he reached for his abandoned coffee as if the interruption had never happened.

Behind him, the commotion faded, Lara’s loud protests swallowed by the distance as the guards dragged her down the driveway toward the gates.

Felix took a slow sip, savoring the warmth on his tongue. The morning was quiet again.

Normal. Peaceful.

Exactly how he wanted it.

He wasn’t going to let her or anyone else hijack his morning.
