My Borderline Supervillain-Slash-Hero System-Chapter 63 Magical Traps
Chapter 63: Chapter 63 Magical Traps
Sebastian Hemp had planned everything meticulously. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Around the perimeter of his mansion, deep within the dense groves near the Tussar River, he had laid down layers upon layers of traps—some magical, some mechanical, others manned by elite specialists from his faction.
Hidden assassins, camouflaged spellcasters, rune weavers—all positioned with a single purpose: to ambush and capture the incoming intruders.
All that remained now... was for the prey to walk into the wolf’s den.
Three days later
Three figures stepped silently into the vast forest. On one side of the trail shimmered the clear, fresh waters of Tussar Lake, its still surface disturbed only by the breeze.
Shelby ripped off a thick piece of dried meat with his teeth and chewed slowly. "This Celestial Wolf King knows how to pick a lair," he said, eyes scanning the suspiciously silent trees. "Took us three days to find it. Just look around—the place is too quiet. Even a rookie from the Academy would see this whole damn forest is rigged with traps."
Zane and Erlin each munched on their salted meat as well, alert and observant.
Shelby turned to Zane, speaking between chews. "This is your training ground. From here on, you’re on your own. I’m not helping. And you—" he glanced at Erlin "—can’t interfere either."
Erlin pouted, clearly displeased, but said nothing. She knew better than to argue when Shelby got serious.
"Go," Shelby instructed. "We’ll follow behind you. This time, you’ve got permission to use everything you’ve got. Don’t hold back."
Zane gave a sharp nod, shared a brief glance with Erlin, and sprinted into the thicket ahead.
As he dashed past a line of trees, a familiar chime echoed inside his mind.
Ding!
[Warning: Magical Traps Detected Ahead]
[Would you like to activate All Seeing Almighty Vision? Y/N]
A brief description followed beneath:
All Seeing Almighty Vision is a temporary visual skill. When activated, the user’s eyes will turn red. The user will be able to perceive everything related to mana. There is no cast time. The skill consumes 10 Mana per second and can be sustained until mana is depleted. No side effects or physical strain.
Zane skidded to a stop, crouched low, and began evaluating the situation.
"Let’s see... I’ve got 1500 Mana. This skill only drains 10 per second. With a regen rate of 50 per second, I’m still in the green. And even if I burn through too much mana, I can just use Divine Restoration with beast cores to refill." He grinned. "Thanks to my wife’s generous dowry, I’ve got enough beast cores to power my mana for decades."
He looked around the dense foliage and thought, This might even be the perfect moment to test the Villain Skill I unlocked recently. On Earth, there was no way I’d ever dare to use this. He chuckled softly.
"Alright, System. Activate All Seeing Almighty Vision."
A sudden pulse rose from within his core. Zane stood still as the mana within him stirred, focused, and surged toward his eyes.
A tingling sensation washed over him. Then—everything changed.
The world was suddenly bathed in hues of radiant color. His vision expanded.
He saw intricate threads of mana networks stretching like glowing spiderwebs across the forest. Each glowing knot or pulse marked a magical trap—rune circles carved into bark, glyphs hidden beneath moss, and enchanted threads strung between branches like tripwires.
"Damn..." he whispered, "this place really is a death trap."
He picked up a stick from the ground and tossed it toward one of the glowing mana webs.
His red-gleaming eyes caught the violent reaction instantly—the tangled threads of mana shuddered and exploded outward in a flash of concentrated energy. A chilling gust swept the area, and in the next second, frost bloomed violently across the forest floor. The blast of condensed mana froze everything in a wide radius, forming a jagged dome of thick, glistening ice.
Zane instinctively stepped back, a sharp gust of cold air whipping against his face. He narrowed his eyes at the frozen structure and took a few careful steps forward. Once in front of it, he gave the massive block of ice a casual flick with his finger.
Nothing happened.
"Huh," he muttered, examining it. "Tough one."
He crouched slightly and drove a heavy punch into the ice using his full body weight. Again—nothing. But just as he prepared another blow, a thin crack snaked its way across the ice. Then more followed, rapidly branching like lightning bolts in every direction.
Crack-crack-crack—
With a thunderous pop, the entire chunk disintegrated into a cloud of fine dew and glittering shards, vanishing like mist on a summer morning.
Zane stepped through the dispersing fog and scanned the path ahead. His eyes, still under the effect of All Seeing Almighty Vision, picked out three more dense pockets of mana. The web of traps ahead was thick—but here and there, he could spot clear paths, narrow strips where the mana was absent.
He nodded. "The Wolf King already knows we’re here. He’s laid everything out in advance."
Without hesitation, he sprinted forward.
He wasn’t being careful anymore. He wanted to trigger everything. His goal: reach that clear zone beyond the trap field and assess the true scale of the ambush.
The next trigger zone erupted with a mass of blazing crimson fire—it roared to life around him, devouring the underbrush in a flash and surrounding him in an inferno.
Zane skidded to a stop.
"Fire trap, huh? I’m not a water elemental. All I’ve got are Light and Dark spells," he muttered. He racked his brain, sifting through options. "No spell combo to counter this directly... so let’s do it Shelby-style."
Brute force.
He reached over his shoulder and grasped the hilt of the massive broadsword strapped tightly in its leather sling. As he drew it, the familiar rusty, worn-out blade emerged, humming faintly with arcane residue.
Immediately, the childish voice echoed inside his head:
"Waaah! I’m hungry! Snack! Snack! Give Baby snack!"
Zane chuckled and patted the flat of the sword affectionately.
"Hey, Baby. That cane I gave you—how’d it taste?"
"Taaasty! Taaasty! So good!"
Zane pointed at the raging fire wall in front of them. "Alright, what about this one? Think you can eat some flame today?"
"Mmm... not spicy. Not hot enough. Must taste bland."
"Yeah?" Zane’s eyes gleamed. "Daddy needs to pass through this. How about this—just eat a narrow path through the fire. In return, I’ll feed you ten mana cores."
"Ten?! Ten cores?! Baby is happy! Happy!!"
Zane smirked. "Good girl."
He angled the broadsword forward, letting its tip point the way.
And then... something strange happened.
With All Seeing Almighty Vision still active, Zane saw something no normal eyes could detect—on both flat sides of the blade, thirteen glowing mouths emerged. Each was made of mana essence, filled with jagged teeth resembling saw blades. They gnawed at the air hungrily, practically vibrating with anticipation.
A powerful suction suddenly blasted forward from the blade—both faces of it pulling air inward with ferocity. The intense flame wall ahead began to shrink and swirl violently as chunks of the crimson blaze were devoured by the sword’s many mouths.
Zane stepped forward, a confident grin tugging at his lips.
The broadsword, once dull and rusted, began to shimmer.
With each bit of flame consumed, another spot of corroded metal flaked away, revealing pristine dark steel, polished and gleaming like obsidian under the sun.
The blade wasn’t just hungry—it was evolving.
Zane walked calmly through the trail his sword carved in the flames.
Behind him, the scorched earth sizzled.
Ahead, the fire withered into nothingness, fed to a sentient soul within a weapon that was slowly waking up.
After five minutes of steady progress, Zane passed through the blazing trap unharmed.
