My Demon Wife In The Apocalypse: I Can Control Minds!-Chapter 77 - 76- A Man Who Did
Chapter 76- A Man Who Did
The crowd only got more and more riled up with Jack’s silence. The boy stared at the scenes with a blank expression as if he didn’t understand what was happening exactly or, to be more precise, refused to understand and simply watched as if he was a bystander and not the target of all of that anger being spouted out everywhere.
"Hey, Jack didn’t do anything wrong!" Alex was the first to get to him as he yelled. "If it wasn’t for him, we all would’ve been dead long ago! Why are you yelling at him?"
"..." Jack stared to the side for a second before he looked ahead again.
"He killed that old woman!! I saw it!"
"Yeah! And many have been taken by those disgusting creatures!"
"We want an explanation for what happened?!"
The people protested again, replying to Alex with their own reasons. At first glance, their reasoning is completely valid. From their point of view, everything happened far too fast, and they couldn’t comprehend what even occurred.
"He had to! If he didn’t do that, you all would’ve faced the same fate. How can you be so unfair as to not at least listen to him explain what happened?" Alex replied, his face dark with anger and dissatisfaction. If there is one thing that boys despise, it is unfairness.
He hated his friend being attacked like that for no good reason. Jack was only doing his best for everyone and trying to save the entire base from demise. Yet, he was being insulted and attacked just because he had to take tough measures in order to save the majority.
How is that fair? How is that right? It didn’t sit right with him at all that it was happening in such a way.
"It’s ok, Alex." Jack finally exhaled and signaled for him to stop. "They won’t understand in that manner."
"But-"
"It’s fine, I said. I will take care of this myself and solve it, ok?"
Saying that, Jack stepped forward and stared at the protesters. His expression was calm and collected, but carried a presence so strong that everyone there felt a chill run down their spine.
Jack, was different. His presence was far more aggressive and dominant, it was as if his mere presence alone would eclipse the entire world and make everyone bow before him.
However, of course, that wasn’t the feeling everyone had. They were simply staring in awe at a figure that seemed almost mystical in their eyes. Jack was slowly becoming someone that this world wasn’t meant to contain. Someone who was born for what’s above and what’s beyond.
"I understand..." He began.
"..."
"I understand your anger and frustration. I understand that you need an explanation for what happened. I’m sure many of you have doubts about what the future holds. But... Let’s not forget or twist something here." Jack said coldly. "Let’s not forget what I did to you. What we did in the past two days to keep this place from getting leveled with the ground."
His words reverberated across the entire base, catching everyone’s attention.
"We came here when you were all stuck inside the base. You were trapped, surrounded by Undead and waiting for your end. You didn’t even know what was happening outside, and this army that you thought would protect you, was getting decimated with no clue as to what to do. When you were all crying and praying to God, we came and we singlehandedly saved this base and dragged that threat away."
"..."
Silence.
It was all silence, with Jack’s words being the only thing to break it. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"Then, we organized the place, we promised to protect you and help you. We then brought a group of you and taught them how to fight for themselves, while planning to bring you all outside and teach you the method. We wanted to expand this base so that all of you can have better living conditions. We then protected you from these insects that can control the mind, and while many fell as collateral damage, it was necessary to save you all."
Jack’s voice remained stable and calm yet also carried immense strength. He was completely in control at that moment, making everyone listen in silence and awe.
"And then what do we get in return? Anger and protest? For saving your lives? Should we just leave you be and let the Undead eat you or the insects rot your brain?" He asked as he raised an eyebrow. "I can do that, and frankly speaking, it would be less of a hassle to have to only worry about my group and my friends."
"..."
"I’m not asking you to revere or respect me. All I ask is that you don’t be dead weight. I can’t frankly stand people who wouldn’t do anything to take control of their lives and try to make it harder on everyone else. It’s your choice, and I’m fine with either option. In the end, I won’t lose anything."
With that, Jack turned around and walked away without even looking at their reactions. He didn’t need to see to know what they’re thinking of at that moment. These fools were simply far too easy to read.
They get swayed by words and grandiose speeches and that dictates how they see things. Especially when the one speaking is someone who holds power and influence.
’So this is how politicians do it, huh? Not too shabby.’ He thought to himself as he walked back to Luna and the others.
Everyone stared at him in awe. That speech he gave was so powerful that even his friends felt moved and riled up by it. They felt an excitement within them that they hadn’t felt since this entire fiasco began.
Yet, it came from the mouth of a normal teenage boy. That was simply unheard of. Even General Hermann couldn’t keep his mouth shut from sheer shock. He felt that he was listening to a president of a nation or a leader for a second rather than a high school kid.
"Luna, Evan, we three will go investigate if the infected ones went back to the laboratory or not," Jack said coldly. "Alex, Emi, I want you to inspect people another time before letting them inside. It is pointless to leave them outside in the cold when we can’t really do much beyond this. They will suffer from these low temperatures."
"Understood."
"Hm, I guess we will have to go there ourselves, huh? I’m not looking forward to that."
"We will try our best to make sure nobody will be harmed," Emi replied with a hesitant expression. She wasn’t very confident that they could pull it off, but they had to do their best and just go with it.
"But, give me a moment, I need to get something," Jack said as he walked back into the building and then headed to the Garden of Eve.
Inside, he picked up the container where the queen was. ’It might come in handy. I also need to check all the skills and items I gained from killing her. I have a hunch they might be very powerful.’
After all, the strength Jack gained from that monster indicates how potentially great the items and skills will be.
He even gained a new title, which he was excited to look into. After all, titles only meant more power, a power that skills and items can’t provide.
’If Liliana were here, she would probably help me understand what these new things mean.’ Jack sighed to himself. However, there was not much to be done. The demoness had disappeared.
But, for now, he had to get this out of the way. To at least know that the insects weren’t going to make an attack very suddenly is good.

With that, the work began.
Leaving soon after with the other two, Jack headed to the laboratory again. However, this time, they didn’t plan to walk in but rather to watch from the outside and see what could happen.
Their biggest worry is an invasion, and if that happens when they weren’t ready for it, then it would be a disaster bigger than the horde of Undead that attacked them not that long ago.
Meanwhile, Emi and Alex started the process of getting everyone inside. The weather was only getting more and more erratic with every hour since the sky was torn open. One instance, it was hot as if it was summer, and one instance, it was the coldest of days. No one really understood what was happening, but they were all certain that this was merely the start of something far greater.
"Please be safe out there, Jack, Luna. Don’t get yourselves killed." Alex muttered as he focused on the task. Everyone needed to do their part, and while it was clearly a huge risk, there weren’t many other options.
They had to do it. They simply had to do it.
