Chapter 77- Far, Far Away

Earth, was changing. A very rapid and fundamental change that swept every single part of the globe. The torn sky and the huge amounts of Aether being pumped into this small blue planet were incomprehensible. Yet, what was even more shocking than that was the fact that this small planet was absorbing all of that Aether at a very rapid pace.

It was akin to a hungry monster eating everything in its way. In fact, it was consuming so much Aether that a planet of its size should never be able to do that. Planets and worlds way bigger than that didn’t consume anywhere near that much Aether during their evolution.

Yet, even with all of that, the change that Jack and the others expected didn’t come their way yet. Aside from the pulses and the subtle changes like temperature, weather and other small things, there were no major problems yet.

Everyone was too busy with the problems at hand to focus on those details, and even if they did, there wasn’t much to be done except to wait and act according to the situation.

However, far away from Earth, in a dimension beyond any human’s awareness, was a place. Mystical, illusory in essence and yet as real as earth itself. It was white, a world of snow, or perhaps things that look like snow.

It was a vast stretch of plains and fields, all covered in snow. It was night, eternally so yet a sense of warmth filled this place that one couldn’t describe.

In these open fields was a small structure, lonesome in this open world yet still unique to stand out. It was a small house, a wooden one, cozy and simple yet also so odd and mystical that it didn’t feel right.

Who lives in that house, however, was far from simple.

"I didn’t expect you to visit me so soon after your last visit, brat. Did you miss this old man?" A strong and confident voice spoke. While the words were harsh, the tone was wise and calm, carrying a feeling of knowledge unlike anything else. It was as if this man who spoke had lived and seen everything this existence has to offer.

"Sigh, so when I don’t visit often, you get angry, and when I do, you also get angry? What am I supposed to do?" A soft, seductive voice spoke with a tired sigh. A familiar face sat on the other end of a table, watching the man make warm drinks.

"Since when did you get the guts to start talking back, Liliana?" The man said as he walked toward her and put the cup before her as he sat down.

"Sorry, sorry." Liliana giggled, knowing that the man was joking with her. "But, as I said last time I saw you, I’m going to be free for a while, so I will visit more often."

"Indeed. Hm, you almost killed yourself with work, kid. I was seriously considering trapping you here so you don’t go back to that hellish life you set for yourself."

"Yeah, yeah, I know." Liliana rolled her eyes as she sipped the drink with a smile on her face. "I needed this break more than anything. My head was... getting filled with unwanted thoughts, and I knew if I didn’t take a break, I would end up doing things I would regret."

"We all do things that we regret. What matters is what we learn from it and how we change it."

"Indeed. You have taught me that."

"But, I also know you, kid. You aren’t someone who visits me without a reason. Come on, let it out."

"... No, I-"

"Don’t you even. You’re way too young to try and trick this old man. You still have milk between your teeth."

"... Sigh, I can never beat you, can I?" Liliana smiled bitterly as she stared at the old man. "You always see through me with ease."

"If I don’t, who would? So, what is it that you want to tell me?"

"... It’s a long story."

"I’m a bored old man; stories entertain me."

"Well, you see... What I didn’t tell you is that I haven’t really been sitting doing nothing for the past few years. I have been roaming the realms for a bit."

"Wait... What?" The man stopped sipping and looked at the demoness with a frown. "Liliana."

"I know, I know. You told me how dangerous it is and how I could be caught. But, I have been careful, Grandpa."

"You are never careful enough. Have you not heard a word I said? You are exposing yourself to them. I didn’t know you had a death wish."

"It’s really fine, Grandpa. They can’t find me when I’m this careful and that is not what I wanted to say. While I was roaming around, I found a planet that was about to take its first step into evolution. The Divine Records seemingly just reached it, and I was bored, so I curiously checked it."

"Hm, and since when did you take an interest in sapling worlds?"

"You should be the first one to understand what boredom does to a person, Grandpa."

"So, on that planet called Earth, I found a boy. He’s 17 years of age, a human kid."

"Human?"

"Mhm, he caught my attention because he was the very first human to awaken in that world, so I followed him. At first, I thought he was merely a talented boy with a good head between his shoulders. However, Grandpa, I quickly started noticing some very peculiar things."

"What did you see?" The man put the cup down and focused on her words.

"His talent... I have never seen anything like it. Not even in the realm of heroes, Grandpa. No, not just that, he puts any of those geniuses to shame."

"Those are some pretty bold claims, kid."

"I can say it confidently. He is the best talent my eyes have ever seen. The speed at which he grew stronger, his ability to learn complex techniques that take weeks and months to figure out, in less than an hour. He even... He even gained the Red Lightning powers, Grandpa."

With each word, the man’s eyes widened even more as he stared at Liliana.

"The Red Lightning? Are you certain of your words? These aren’t things we can joke about."

"I am not lying, I confirmed it. He is carrying that Red Lightning."

"Why? That power should be sealed for eternity. The Divine Records themselves have damned it into oblivion. Why would he gain that power?"

"I... Don’t know. But that is merely a small example of what he is capable of. For the first time in my life, I can’t see a limit to someone’s talent. He could truly reach levels we have never seen before." She said as she held the warm cup and thought about it.

Jack was far from merely a talent; he was a gem unlike anything she had seen before. If higher powers knew of his existence, they would do anything to gain his powers. She wouldn’t even be shocked if entire wars between clans were waged just to get him.

That was how truly monumental Jack’s existence was. He was someone capable of truly changing the world as they knew it.

"I came here to ask you if you knew anything, Grandpa. If you knew that world is special or not."

"Earth, huh? I know of that world. It is but a normal one as far as I learned. It is certainly not mentioned in any prophetic text or tellings of the future. However... This boy, he could be perhaps someone chosen by the Divine Records for one odd reason or another."

"Was there such a case before?"

"Chosen people existed. Ones with immense talent and great potential. However, this is certainly the first time I heard of something like this. Now, I wish to see this kid."

"Eh?" Liliana froze.

"What?"

"This... is the first time you actually wanted to meet someone. You even turned down the True Ones’ invitations to their banquets."

"Those old dogs are nothing but liars, and I hate liars. This kid, however, I must see with my own eyes. Bring him to me, I want to meet him."

"I think you would like him." Liliana smiled. "He’s smart, calm and wise way beyond his age. He actually reminds me of you a bit."

"Hmph, there is no one like me, kid. As for this boy, I want you to keep him hidden away from everyone. He must not be noticed. If he is truly someone that special, then we cannot let those bastards get their hands on him at any cost."

"I am aware. I have already made all the necessary measures to hide his presence from their eyes."

"Good. I will see what I can do regarding him when I meet him. If he is someone we can trust, then I shall help him. However, if I see that his future is dark... I cannot let him live."
