My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 118: The Person from Last Night
As he spoke, his large hand gripped Nina Wynn’s soft waist and slid slowly down her curves.
The movement was slow, but heavy with intent.
Nina Wynn’s body stiffened.
’He’s being too much today!’
’We already did it once this morning while I was half-asleep, and it left my whole body aching. I only felt a little better after sleeping until noon.’
’I thought for sure there wouldn’t be a repeat tonight, but he seems even more energetic in the evening. We just went at it for so long, is he still not satisfied?’
’But it really hurts!’
’Even though we’ve done it so many times, I still can’t get used to it.’
’But I absolutely have to go to Aethelburg tomorrow!’
’So, for today, I have no choice but to do my best to please him.’
She didn’t really know what to do, as she had never taken the initiative. All she could do was imitate him, her hands tentatively exploring his body.
’Still, I really can’t figure out what’s so fun about this. Why does he get so worked up?’
Soon enough, her inexperienced touches ignited a fire within him. He lost all control, flipping over and pinning her beneath his body.
The large bed rocked for a long time, as did the low whimpers and gasps.
One night was nowhere near enough.
The next day, Nina Wynn woke up bright and early.
When she got up, she saw Caleb Rhodes was already at the dining table.
He held a delicate, white bone china teacup in one hand, slowly leafing through the newly delivered newspaper with the other.
As always, he was dressed in a bespoke pinstripe shirt and black trousers, looking noble and aloof. His commanding aura was palpable even as he just sat there.
Nina Wynn looked at him, finding it impossible to reconcile the man before her with the man from last night.
The Caleb Rhodes from last night had been wild and savage, his eyes bloodshot as if he wanted to devour her.
Yet the man before her now was coolly distinguished, radiating an air of nobility and grace even in the way he held his teacup.
’Can a person really be so different?’
Sensing Nina Wynn’s gaze, Caleb Rhodes put down his teacup and looked over.
She was wearing a loose, white knit sweater, which made her look very slender.
Her ink-black hair cascaded down her back, covering the upper half of it.
The stark black of her hair made her skin seem even fairer and her features all the more delicate.
’These last few days, Warner Zimmerman had procured some sort of wellness meal plan for her. She had taken to it well and put on a little weight. Her small chin wasn’t quite as sharp anymore; it felt better to the touch.’
His gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds before drifting down to her slender, pale neck, which bore several dark red marks.
’His handiwork.’
He watched for a moment, the darkness in his eyes deepening. His voice was a bit hoarse as he spoke, "You’re up? Why not sleep in a little longer?"
As if she knew what he was thinking, Nina Wynn grew a little flustered.
She clutched her sweater with her soft, pale hands, biting her lip as she said softly, "You promised me. You said you’d take me to Aethelburg today."
Watching her shy, Zoe-like demeanor, Caleb Rhodes’s gaze softened considerably, though his voice remained light. "Come here!"
Absolute authority!
Not to be refused!
Nina Wynn had no choice but to walk toward him.
Before she even reached him, he scooped her up, and she tumbled onto his lap.
He wrapped one arm around her and used the other to pick up a freshly served steamed egg custard. "This eager to go?"
Thinking he was about to go back on his word, Nina Wynn nervously gripped the small bowl of custard and whispered, "Are you going to renege?"
Caleb Rhodes gave her a look that was not quite a smile, his voice tinged with coldness. "In your eyes, am I the kind of person who so easily reneges?"
Nina Wynn tightened her grip on the small bowl and fell silent.
’Easily reneges? He’s completely untrustworthy! He never keeps his promises!’
Caleb Rhodes tucked a stray strand of hair from her cheek behind her ear and said in a low voice, "You can sleep until noon. We’ll go after that."
Nina Wynn breathed a sigh of relief and loosened her grip on the small bowl.
Only then did Caleb Rhodes realize that she had been holding the scalding hot bowl the entire time without letting go.
He frowned, pulling her hand over to inspect it. Her pale palm was already bright red from the heat.
His eyes darkened, and his voice sounded somewhat cold. "Nina Wynn, if you ever grab something scalding hot and refuse to let go again, you’ll see how I deal with you!"
Like a schoolgirl who had done something wrong, Nina Wynn quietly defended herself, "It doesn’t hurt."
The moment he heard that, the anger in Caleb Rhodes’s heart, which had never fully subsided, began to churn in his chest once more.
The last incident had dealt him a great psychological blow.
So much so that now, he felt awful whenever he heard her say the three words, "It doesn’t hurt."
Nina Wynn’s extremely stoic nature was a thorny problem for him.
Even when her palm was pierced or her pinky finger broken, she would endure it without a single tear or complaint.
What was more terrifying was that when she had broken her ribs and was on the verge of death, she would have simply waited quietly to die if he hadn’t found her.
It was as if she didn’t care about death.
It was as if there was nothing in this world she felt attached to; even if she were to die at that very moment, it wouldn’t be a major event for her.
This terrifying stoicism and silence made him feel as though she were a closed loop, without any opening. He had been trying for so long, yet he hadn’t managed to get inside at all.
In fact, in the days prior, he had managed to get her to slowly develop a bit of a temper—crying out when she was in pain, asking for things she wanted, and refusing things she didn’t.
Although it could be infuriating at times, he also found it very cute.
He’d felt that everything was moving in the right direction then. But now, because of his mistake, it seemed everything had gone back to square one. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
At this thought, the color of his eyes grew even darker.
He took her injured hand, holding it in his palm. He gently squeezed her small, soft pinky finger. "Does it still hurt?"
Nina Wynn shook her head, seemingly not caring about the finger at all. "It doesn’t hurt. I don’t feel anything."
’In truth, it still hurt. Especially when I went outside, my pinky would throb with a raw, aching pain.’
’It’s just that I felt whether it hurt or not didn’t really matter anymore.’
’He’d paid compensation money, after all. It wasn’t much, and he’d even cut the amount in half, but I was the one who didn’t fight for more. So it doesn’t matter anymore.’
After breakfast, Nina Wynn quickly changed her clothes and waited for Caleb Rhodes in the living room.
When Caleb Rhodes came out, his brow furrowed slightly as he took in her rather thin winter clothes.
He turned to Warner Zimmerman and said, "Pack a couple more outfits for her. It’s not as convenient there as it is at home. We won’t be coming back tonight, so bring her medicine and all the usual necessities."
He paused for a moment, then added, "Bring some of her favorite snacks, too. Some of them you can’t buy over there."
Warner Zimmerman: "Yes, Third Lord Master!"
Caleb Rhodes took the small, white cashmere shawl from Warner Zimmerman’s hands and draped it over Nina Wynn’s shoulders.
His movements were gentle, and he seemed very practiced, as if he had done this countless times before.
Nina Wynn stared at his nearly perfect profile, lost in a daze for a few seconds.
’When he does things like this, it makes me feel like I’m being cherished.’
’That little bit of rare tenderness and warmth is something I’ve yearned for my entire life.’
But she quickly snapped back to reality.
’I have to remind myself, over and over again, just how cold-hearted and unfeeling this man is.’
’He might seem kind to me now, but when it really counts, he will never take my side.’
’When he gets tired of this game, I bet I could die right in front of him and he wouldn’t even bat an eye.’
