My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 119: Not Here
Sensing Nina Wynn’s gaze, Caleb Rhodes’s hand paused. He murmured, "Didn’t you get enough of a look last night?"
Nina was stunned for a moment, and then her ears flushed red instantly.
Her face flushed, she hardly dared to meet his eyes. "Y-you, don’t say things like that..."
’How can he say that kind of thing with such a straight face!’
Caleb loved seeing her blush in surprise. It was the only way he could clearly feel her emotions.
Gazing at her delicate features, his hand caressed her soft cheek as he whispered, "Say things like what? Who was it last night who said she wanted a good look?"
As soon as she heard that, Nina’s face felt like it was about to explode. She stammered, "N-no, I didn’t say that..."
Caleb’s gaze softened considerably. He bent down, scooped her into his arms, and whispered in her ear, "It’s fine even if you did. Whatever Nina wants, she gets."
The warm, moist air against her delicate ear made her heart flutter with panic.
Her mind couldn’t help but flash back to how wild he’d been last night.
She had lost herself for a little while then, too.
Although it was painful, there were also some strange sensations mixed in—feelings of shame and powerlessness.
At that thought, Nina felt her face burn. She quickly buried her face and mumbled, "Don’t talk about it anymore."
Seeing that the tips of her ears were so red they looked ready to bleed, Caleb Rhodes finally let her off the hook and carried her into the car.
The drive to Aethelburg from here would take about three hours.
Nina Wynn slept for as long as the car was on the road.
She was simply too exhausted!
He had kept her up late last night, and she had woken up early today. She just couldn’t stay awake, so she slept all the way to Aethelburg with her head pillowed on Caleb Rhodes’s lap.
When they arrived in Aethelburg, Caleb was just about to carry her out when she groggily woke up.
Seeing she still looked out of it, Caleb opened a thermos from a box next to him and handed it to her. "The bird’s nest soup is still hot. Have some."
Nina didn’t have much of an appetite, but she took a few sips from his hand before murmuring drowsily, "Are we here?"
The soup had left a glistening sheen on her lips.
Combined with the flush of having just woken up, her red lips had a watery, shimmering glisten.
Her eyes were misty and unfocused, looking timid yet revealing a hint of innocence.
’She looks delicious.’
Caleb only needed one look before he felt his body tighten again.
A dark look flashed in his eyes. With one hand securing her waist and the other cupping the back of her head, he kissed her.
Nina yielded, pressing into his embrace and tilting her head back to accept his forceful, domineering kiss.
A long moment passed before Caleb finally released her, only when someone knocked on the front window.
It was as if he hadn’t had enough. Nina felt his gaze was heavy, dark, and intense—a bit like how he had looked right before things started last night.
A flicker of panic rose in her heart. She quickly pushed him away and whispered, "Not here."
Just then, the person outside knocked again. "Uncle, everyone is waiting for you in the conference room!"
’It’s Zyler Rhodes’s voice!’
Nina tensed up immediately. She glanced out nervously and saw Zyler Rhodes standing outside, impeccably dressed in a suit, with Ivy Lawson beside him.
Fortunately, the car’s windows were heavily tinted, so no one outside could see what was happening inside.
Nina breathed a sigh of relief and said softly, "We should get out."
Caleb glanced at Zyler outside the window, his brow furrowing.
’Didn’t I arrange for him to go back to Elysian City on business today? Why is he still here?’
He straightened Nina’s hair, then draped a shawl over her shoulders and said in a low voice, "I have a meeting in a bit. You can hang out in my office for now. I’ve stocked it with some of your favorite snacks. If you’re sleepy, go to the lounge. I’ll take you out for a walk after my meeting."
Nina nodded obediently. "Thank you, Caleb."
Caleb glanced outside the car again, his eyes narrowing as a hint of coldness entered his voice. "Stay away from Zyler Rhodes."
Nina nodded and reached for the door handle.
Caleb stopped her, then took out a scarf and wrapped it around her neck. "Alright, you can go now," he said.
Opening the car door, she was greeted not only by a gust of cold air but also by looks of astonishment.
When Zyler Rhodes saw Nina getting out of the car, he almost couldn’t stop himself from rushing forward to hug her.
But with Ivy Lawson right beside him, he had to suppress the urge. "Nina, what are you doing here?"
Nina glanced at the scowling Ivy Lawson next to him, a flicker of coldness flashing in her eyes.
She lowered her head and said softly, "I wanted to see where Caleb works."
Ivy Lawson’s anger flared the moment she saw her.
She couldn’t stand Nina’s weak, easy-to-bully appearance and wished she could just go up and claw her face off.
But with both Zyler and Caleb here, she could only force a smile. "Since Nina is here today, you’re our guest. Caleb and Zyler have a meeting soon, so why don’t I show you around? This place might not compare to Elysian City, but it has its own nice spots."
She put on the airs of a hostess, acting as if she had already been married to Zyler for years and held the power of the Rhodes Family firmly in her grasp.
Nina stepped forward, linked her arm with Caleb’s, and said softly with downcast eyes, "Thank you, sister-in-law, but that won’t be necessary. Caleb told me to speak less with irrelevant people, otherwise it would be troublesome if I were framed again."
Her single sentence made both Zyler and Ivy’s expressions turn ugly.
This was especially true for Zyler. After starting to text with Nina recently, he found her to be more and more sensible and cute, and he was beginning to regret agreeing to the marriage with the Lawson Family.
Hearing what Nina said now, he thought she was blaming him again and quickly said, "There was a misunderstanding about what happened that day. I’ve already explained it to my father. But it’s all in the past, so let’s not bring it up again."
Before Nina could answer, Caleb’s gaze landed on Ivy Lawson.
The coldness within it made Ivy hastily lower her head, a chill running down her spine.
She had never imagined Caleb would be so protective of Nina, which was why she had dared to bully her so recklessly before.
Now, seeing that Caleb was at odds with the Rhodes Family over Nina, she realized the gravity of the situation.
Especially now, under Caleb’s piercing gaze, her heart was seized with panic.
Fortunately, Caleb quickly retracted his gaze and led Nina by the hand toward the office building.
Watching the two of them walk away, Ivy felt that something was off, but then told herself she was overthinking it.
’Who was Caleb Rhodes?’
’He was one of the elites at the very top of The Capital Set, a titan of the business world. How could he possibly have any sort of relationship with Nina?’
’Even if he did, it would just be out of pity and sympathy for a poor little orphan.’
With that thought, she relaxed and began plotting how to get Nina to leave Aethelburg as soon as possible.
Caleb’s office was on the third floor. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The moment they entered, he turned and pinned Nina against the wall.
A dense flurry of kisses fell upon her, enveloping her until she could barely breathe.
