Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Did Little Uncle Get Married?

Caleb Rhodes didn’t even spare him a glance, sitting down directly in the host’s seat.

Willson Lawson, on the other hand, felt like he was about to cry from the man’s stupidity. In all his years, this was the first time he’d ever seen someone dare to try and buy off Caleb Rhodes. He couldn’t help but sneer, "Boss Walsh, just how much money are you planning to use to smooth this over?"

Quentin Walsh had known from the start that this matter wouldn’t be easy to resolve. However, as long as he could quell this storm, spending a little money was worth it.

"There’s fifty million in here. If the Third Lord Master finds it insufficient, I’ll go prepare more right away."

Willson Lawson said coldly, "Even your entire Greene Group wouldn’t be enough!"

Quentin Walsh’s expression changed. He forced a smile. "Third Lord Master, please spare us. Young people drink too much and are bound to make small mistakes."

He had made inquiries. The person with Caleb Rhodes this time was likely a child of a relative of the Rhodes Family, not a proper master of the family, and certainly not Caleb’s fiancée, Rosalind Lowell.

’That makes things easier,’ he thought. Money, after all, was very effective. If fifty million wasn’t enough, he’d just add another fifty million.

Caleb Rhodes lifted his gaze, his voice exceptionally cold. "In this territory of Aethelburg, you’ve all been living too comfortably. It’s time for a changing of the guard. It’s utterly filthy."

His voice was soft, but it carried a bone-chilling coldness and the immense pressure of an approaching storm.

A chill ran down Quentin Walsh’s spine. He quickly forced another smile. "It’s not such a big deal. I implore the Third Lord Master to be magnanimous. As for the money, that’s negotiable!"

Willson Lawson couldn’t listen anymore and sneered, "A small matter? The person your son provoked is the one my Third Lord Master holds dearest to his heart! Do you think my Third Lord Master is someone who’s short on cash?"

Quentin Walsh was instantly dumbfounded. His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor.

It was all over!

The next day, Aethelburg erupted as if a pot had exploded, with one shocking piece of news after another.

Rumor had it that the largest local real estate developer had been toppled overnight. It was discovered that many of his past projects had issues, and even his earliest offenses of withholding migrant workers’ wages and smuggling goods were dug up.

Someone saw with their own eyes that all eight members of the Walsh Family were taken away in police cars.

However, this was only the beginning.

In just a few short days, the very sky over Aethelburg had changed!

From the Deputy Mayor to the Chief of Police, and even to powerful figures in various industries, at least a third of them were removed from their positions.

Replacing them was a group of young, powerful figures from Elysian City.

For a time, anyone of any standing in Aethelburg lived in constant fear, not daring to even breathe too loudly, all living with their tails between their legs.

Rumors began to circulate that Quentin Walsh’s son had been caught for group drug use at a party he hosted, and the higher-ups were furious, leading to these consequences.

Other rumors claimed that The Capital Set had long been displeased with Aethelburg, wanted to replace the people in power, and had simply used this as an excuse to remove a batch of them.

Yet another rumor suggested that Quentin Walsh’s son had slept with a "kept canary" of some big shot from The Capital Set. The big shot flew into a rage and viciously dealt with the Walsh Family, along with everyone else who attended that party.

The theories were endless, but what the common people found most interesting was the story about the big shot and his kept canary. For a while, various versions of the story circulated, creating quite a buzz.

While public opinion raged outside, Nina Wynn recuperated in her hotel room, completely insulated from the rumors.

At first, she had a fever. Warner Zimmerman and Dr. Chapman were both brought to Aethelburg, and for two days, she was tended to with Chinese medicine and fish congee.

Later, the fever subsided, but she remained listless and lacking in energy.

When Caleb Rhodes was in the room, she would curl up beside him to sleep. When he wasn’t, she would hold Roy and stare out the window for long periods.

Occasionally, she would look at her phone, browsing through all the trending topics.

One day, after seeing the news that Ivy Lawson had attempted suicide due to online harassment, her spirits seemed to lift a little. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

After lunch, she was playing with Roy on the sofa. Just as she picked up a cat teaser wand, Warner Zimmerman came in.

"Miss Wynn, Rosalind Lowell is here to see you. Would you like to see her?"

Before he had even finished speaking, Rosalind Lowell walked in.

She said with a playful reproach, "Butler Zimmerman must be getting forgetful in his old age. Do I need to be announced like any other guest when I come to see Nina?"

As she spoke, she placed the fruit basket in her hands on the cabinet by the door and looked at Nina Wynn.

She saw Nina Wynn curled up on the leather sofa, holding a small cat, looking unwell.

Her delicate little face was pale, completely drained of color, and her voice sounded weak. "Miss Lowell, you’re here. Please, have a seat."

She was wearing only a light pink knit sweater and a simple pair of jeans, exuding the unique, clean scent of a young girl.

The clothes also seemed a bit too large for her, making her appear very thin and fragile.

The moment Rosalind Lowell saw this, her mood soured.

’Nina looks so stunning like this, even I, as a woman, am impressed. If she’s around Caleb Rhodes all day looking like that, it’s going to be a disaster.’

In her heart, she utterly despised Nina Wynn’s background, feeling that she looked exactly like a cheap little vixen.

She suppressed the disgust in her heart, stepped forward, and took Nina Wynn’s hand, adopting the air of a hostess. "Are you feeling any better? Let me take you out for a walk. Caleb just called me and said he’ll be back late tonight. You’re his niece, so naturally, you’ll be my niece in the future, too. You can tell me about any grievances you have."

As she spoke, her eyes glanced at the marks on Nina Wynn’s neck. A flash of schadenfreude went through her mind, but her tone was one of shock. "How did this happen? That beast committed rape!"

Nina Wynn’s face grew even paler. She asked softly, "Did my uncle tell you?"

Rosalind Lowell’s eyes flickered slightly as she chuckled. "Of course. There are no secrets between him and me!"

Rosalind had only heard some rumors that Felix Walsh might have provoked Nina Wynn that night. Seeing the marks on Nina today seemed to confirm it.

She had expected Caleb Rhodes to be furious, but she never imagined he would go to such lengths for Nina Wynn.

She had been in Aethelburg for the past few days without leaving, constantly looking for a chance to come up and see the situation.

But unexpectedly, Caleb Rhodes was keeping too close an eye on Nina Wynn. He had cleared out the entire hotel, forbidding anyone from entering or exiting.

It wasn’t until today that she finally found a reason to come up and take a look.

Nina Wynn lowered her gaze and immediately saw the ring on her hand.

A silver ring, worn on her middle finger. A very faint letter "Y" was barely visible on its surface.

’It looked incredibly similar to the one on Caleb Rhodes’s hand. Are those their wedding rings?’

Nina Wynn felt a sudden, sharp pain in her heart, and her mind started buzzing chaotically.

After a long moment, she asked softly, "Miss Lowell, did you and my uncle get married abroad?"

Rosalind Lowell froze for a second, then immediately understood what was happening.

She let out a deliberately shy sigh. "You know, we’re Chinese. Anything done abroad doesn’t really count. This kind of thing has to be done properly here in our own country."

Nina Wynn’s hand, holding Roy, tightened. With her eyes downcast, she said in a low voice, "It does count. The laws in other countries are still laws. Congratulations to you both."
