Chapter 176: Rushing to Sleep (E)

A few minutes were left until nine o’clock.

Four bodies were sprawled on the sand.

Dirt had covered all their clothes and the grainy sand stuck to their skin like glue.

Heaving for air their chests expanded and relaxed at a massive rate and their vision was all blurry.

The reason for their current situation was standing right beside them and smoking a cigarette.

"I love smoking after giving trainees a good beating," Brown muttered while sitting on the small steps which led to his hut’s entrance.

’...’

’...’

’I’ll get him next time!’ Shadow clicked his tongue while Ice and Specy had already accepted their defeat.

Meanwhile, other thoughts were going around in Jin’s mind.

’He’s so strong!’ Jin thought to himself as a string of blood slid down his mouth.

Since he was the best among the other three in close combat, Brown naturally took extra care of Jin.

However, there was no trace of disappointment on his face, but only excitement.

He had been taking close combat for granted these days. He had bought an item from the system store ages ago which had helped him become skilled in many martial arts.

With knowledge comes confidence and if left unchecked it turns into arrogance.

Over time, the same happened with Jin. He stopped using his shadow dummy to train, thinking that what he knew was enough.

This arrogance which Jin had was shattered, and with that, a new world was opened for him.

’There’s so much more to learn in combat,’ Jin muttered and opened his system store.

’There’s something above A grade as well?’ Jin thought. He wanted to laugh when he saw the number of points he needed to upgrade it.

’Isn’t it the same as saying do it yourself?’ Jin lampooned.

He thought back on how Brown had fought with him and everyone else. At first, it was just a one-on-one with each where after everyone tasted their first defeat in Brown’s hands.

What followed after was a one-hour lecture by Brown on how they all could reach their next level.

And in the last hour, they were allowed to attack Brown in a group. The most they were able to do there was to make Brown break a sweat as soon all their attack got countered and they fell to the ground defeated and exhausted.

"Catch your breaths, in five minutes I’ll start with your next training," Brown muttered.

"But what about our dinner?" Specy didn’t forget to point out something important.

"Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier, during this entire month you’ll only be getting one meal per day," Brown told them.

"That’s unfair! We won’t be able to perform our best that way," Shadow complained.

"That’s what this one month will change. You won’t be able to perform your best you say? That’s crap! It’s all here"

Brown pointed to his head and continued, fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"You train your mind to give your best even though you’re hungry, sleep deprived, injured and all the other bull shit. That’s what you need to do since that’s what an assassin does."

Brown’s words subdued any thoughts of indignance in everyone’s mind.

Seeing this Brown flicked the cigarette bud to the side and stood up.

"Breaks over! Stand up everyone," Hearing Brown’s words everyone picked their exhausted self up.

They were so exhausted that if they could, they would all drop to the ground the very next moment and fall asleep, but sleep was a luxury they couldn’t afford at the moment.

Sighing they could only force themselves to stay awake.

"Your next and last training is Concealment. Here’s how it will go. I’ll drop you four in North, East, South and West directions with the Oasis as the centre.

Each drop point will be five kilometres away from the Oasis. Your job is to make your way back to the hut without getting shot at."

Brown pointed at a sniper rifle, which was leaning against the hut’s wall. It had a night vision scope attached to it.

"Of course, I’ll be using rubber bullets, so you can relax." Brown chuckled and continued, "I’ll be waiting for your arrival at the hut’s roof, that is, if you can. The one who succeeds will no longer need to appear for concealment training this month and could use this time to get some extra sleep. Pretty enticing, isn’t it?" Brown chuckled.

"You bet it is!" Shadow exclaimed in excitement.

Specy clenched his fists, and his eyes were no longer as drowsy as before.

Ice and Jin, too, were full of anticipation and desired to get that extra sleep in.

"Let’s go then," Brown turned on his SUV and called them all in.

When all of them sat, the SUV blasted through the desert at great speed.

While driving, Brown instructed, "After I’ve dropped you all, you’ll get some time to take your hiding spots until I reach back to the hut, use it well."

When I’m about to take my position on the roof, you’ll hear a blank shot. It will signal the start of your three-hour time period. All clear?" Brown asked.

"Yes, sir," Everyone responded.

Brown nodded and focused back on driving. The SUV stopped at the first spot.

"Ice, get down here," Brown told.

Ice nodded and got out. The SUV left soon after. Like this in a sequential manner Specy, Shadow and lastly Jin were dropped at their respective points.

Using Swift Steps, they all rushed towards the centre to gain as much distance as possible, knowing that it would get difficult after Brown had taken his position.

However, Swift steps had a serious drawback. It couldn’t be used for long.

By the time they had covered one kilometre, they were almost out of breath and were dragging their feet with everything they had. It was at that time that Brown had reached back to the hut.

BANG!

Hearing the blank shot, they immediately dropped flat on the ground and used the sand mounds as cover. Gasping for air, they patiently waited to catch their breath before taking further action.

Meanwhile, Brown comfortably took position on the hut’s roof with his sniper rifle and started looking for his first prey.
