My Life In A Fantasy, Women-Dominated World-Chapter 143: ...Rye?
"How did those bitches record everything in the stadium so clearly?!" Claire burst out, looking at Rye’s smirk which was even more infuriating to her.
"Jaq was on drone lookout duty." Eva added coldly.
Suddenly accused, Jaq turned to look at Eva mildly, "My sweet dear healer, I dare you to focus on a fucking small ass drone while we are getting our asses handed to us by a fucking mimic."
She said without pulling any of her punches.
After all, who can focus on paparazzis and drones when their own life is in danger?
"In addition, the drone was recording with night vision until the point of spotlight." Lia shook her head, voicing her support for Jaq, "None of us could’ve noticed a flying piece of metal in such darkness. Especially under the threat of death."
Eva parted her lips to refute the excuses, but no words came out of her mouth.
Even though she knew that Jaq wasn’t at fault, she just wanted someone to blame this on.
Aaron gently patted her shoulder, easing Eva’s breathing slightly.
He didn’t let his touch linger though, knowing that going too far will just be adding onto Lia and Katie’s suspicions.
However unlike Claire and Eva, he wasn’t really feeling on edge about this clip and news.
Maybe he just didn’t understand the repercussions of it since he was new to the world, or maybe they were being too protective of him.
He didn’t know, but there was nothing he could do either.
The news was already on the internet and TVs. Neither he nor any of the cohort members had enough connections to get it down at the moment.
However before he could even think too much about the news, his phone began to ring.
At first he was worried if it was from guilds and such, since he was told to be careful about their scouting, but a single look at the caller ID put him at ease.
// Nancy <3 //
The phone read.
Aaron looked at the cohort, who was already looking at him, wordlessly asking the same doubts that he had before he saw the caller ID.
But he simply shook his head and smiled, "It’s from a friend."
Eva and Claire understood who the ’friend’ was, but they chose to remain silent while Aaron made some distance from them and went into the bathroom before picking up the call.
"He–"
"What the fuck?"
Ruthlessly cutting down any pleasantries, Nancy whisper shouted through the phone.
Aaron coughed awkwardly, "I am sorry I wasn’t able to call last night since we all were a little tired and got entangled in some sh–"
"I can’t care less about that right now, Aaron." Nancy interrupted with a deep sigh, "Care to explain what the fuck is going on the news? Even my mom saw it and was asking me about it.
And don’t even mention my dad, who was a ’little’ hyper about it."
"Ahem," Aaron cleared his throat, "It’s as you saw. Buzznet caught wind of my fights and chose to exaggerate them and air it out."
"What do you mean about exaggerating?" Nancy sighed, "They swore that the videos were real and they even accepted that they indeed edited the videos to change your clothing in one clip since it wasn’t particularly attractive."
"They did?"
"They had to. The channel they were airing on has a strict editing and fake policy, which prevents the guilds and reporters from spouting random bullshit with question marks." she continued, "It’s one of the reasons that they are the most popular news channel."
"Well, what can I say?" Aaron said in an exhausted tone.
"I mean, I don’t mind a famous boyfriend." Nancy giggled before turning back to the serious mode, "But well, I don’t think I need to tell you that fame is a double-edged sword, correct?"
"So is my swordstaff."
"Was that supposed to be funny?" Nancy deadpanned.
"...I guess?"
"Well, it wasn’t."
"Ouch."
Nancy finally giggled slightly, "I should’ve gone with you, sigh."
"Mmhm, it would’ve been nice." Aaron nodded, not that she could see it on the voice call though.
"As long as you’re fine, I guess. Anyways, don’t sign any guild contract without thinking. I have some work."
"Alright, cya Nancy."
"Love ya." Nancy said before cutting the call, leaving Aaron with a slight smile as he turned to exit the bathroom.
Claire and rest were sitting on the bed, talking amongst themselves while watching the news that had already changed the topic from him.
While it might suggest that his topic wasn’t as important as he thought, that wasn’t the case.
The channel they were viewing was very popular and covered nearly all the news from the whole continent, which wasn’t small to say the least.
To even get a chance to be featured on the news on this channel was a big deal.
But before he could take a breath to calm down, the door was knocked twice.
Everyone exchanged glances before Claire jumped off the bed calmly.
She opened the door.
"What do you need?" Claire said coldly.
"Ms Claire Reed, such a pleasure to meet you." A sweet, young and rebellious voice greeted the audience, making them turn to look at the door in an instant.
It sounded too... familiar...
The door was swung open completely, showing the visitor that left everyone staring with wide eyes.
It was a young woman, dressed in a flamboyant neon jacket and face adorned with a random assortment of piercings.
Her messy short hair framed her face perfectly, enhancing her charm by multiple folds.
"Heya~" She greeted everyone with a casual wave, appearing completely casual and at ease.
And before anyone could even comprehend the random visitor, she pushed Claire off the door and smiled widely at Aaron.
"Hello~ my hero!" she chirped, "Did you like my recordings? I hope you saw them, it was such a huge drag to convince the channel to give us a time slot, you know?"
Aaron only blinked in surprise seeing the sudden entrance of the woman.
"...Rye?"
