Chapter 145: F**k This Sh*t, You Know?

Rye explained her, or rather, her leader’s brilliant plan to the cohort.

It was simple as they wanted to raise Aaron’s market value using the news and gain his trust, bringing him to their side.

But they won’t be revealing it yet.

They will let other guilds approach him, some bigger, some smaller.

And once the guilds had tried their luck, Buzznet would come up and snatch him from their hands, raising Aaron’s and their own reputation at the expense of other guilds.

In Aaron’s eyes it was quite an idealistic plan which was mostly based on the assumption that other guilds would be dying to recruit him.

But what if no guild fell for the bait?

What would be Buzznet’s plan?

When he forwarded these questions to the delinquent in question, she casually waved them off, telling him not to worry about it.

As she seemed to be sure that her news would come into fruition and Aaron’s gonna become a star overnight.

"Look, I am not stupid enough to think that you all can make your decisions in a few minutes that I’m giving you." Rye laughed, "So I won’t be forcing any of you.

Y’all can wait yourself and see if the guilds come with their offers, and if they accept to take all 6 of you together.

But trust me, even if they take all 6 of you, you won’t be in the same team." Rye shook her head, "It’s a common loophole, they will offer you all, but the only difference is y’alls posting will be different.

Like Aaron and Jaq might be in elites, Claire might also get a shot at it, Eva would obviously be in the specialized sector, Lia might be able to join mages, and Katie will be given a glorious spot amongst the foot soldiers or a lower levelled team."

After leaving the final warning, Rye shot up to her feet, dusting her neon jacket and taking out a pair of chewing gums from her pocket.

She flicked one towards Aaron, smiling with a small wink before tearing it off and chewing it aggressively.

And surprisingly that was the last thing they saw, as by the time they could focus back onto her, she was already gone.

They all looked at each other, the weight of the politics settling onto them as they sighed exhaustedly.

This was just the first scouting offer and it was already so stressful.

How were they supposed to deal with similar offers from the bigger guilds?

Aaron was just going to console Katie with some calming sentences, when his phone began to ring.

This time, the ringtone was much different than the usual one, making Claire perk her ears and look backwards.

"Mom?" She asked, making his eyes widen as he looked down at the caller ID.

[ Mommm! <3 ]

This was a number that already existed in the phone, saved by the previous Aaron.

And if his assumptions weren’t wrong, then this number belonged to... this body’s mother...

He quickly pressed the volume key, silencing the call and bringing stillness back to the hotel room.

The residents of the room looked at him with squinted, curious eyes, wondering why he was so panicked about a call.

Claire knew by the ringtone that the call was from his mother, which allowed her to understand his panic.

She was in on the news about his ’foreign’ memories and the lack of past knowledge, so it was only normal that he would be uncomfortable talking to her, no matter how important his mother may be to him.

"Well, there’s that." Claire said calmly, bringing everyone’s attention back onto the elephant in the room as Aaron silently switched the phone to Do Not Disturb and slid it back into his pocket.

He currently had no energy to craft lies to tell his family.

"This was our first scouting from an official guild that wasn’t completely corrupt, so I will consider that a win for us. Right fellas?" Claire cheered with a grin.

"Yeah!" Jaq shouted back excitedly.

"Yess!" Eva cheered as well.

"Yep!" Lia added with a small smile, which appeared slightly saddened but happy for her friends.

But as for Katie, she simply murmured "Yeah..." with a flat look, not really feeling the excitement.

Which wasn’t surprising considering that she got openly humiliated by Rye in front of her friends.

"Cheer up, Kat." Aaron gently patted Katie’s shoulder, making her flinch at first and then nod gently.

Then after a while of thinking, she looked at Claire, "Clay, I think I know what’s the best course of action for us."

"Oh? Tell us then," Claire hummed.

"It’s simple. Buzznet isn’t really that strong or prominent in the grander scheme of things. Just like we are kids in tier 3 for them, they are kids in tier 2 for the ones in tier 1." Katie began.

"Well obviously. There’s always a bigger fish, but so what?" Eva tilted her head curiously.

"Then I suggest we take up an offer from a guild at tier 1 level." she smiled.

"Hah, as if they will take us." Jaq chortled, "What a stupid plan, Kate."

"I know." Katie nodded, "They won’t take us. But they might take you, Claire, Eva and Aaron. Maybe Lia if we keep a condition. I am fine with staying back.

I always wanted to own a small business in Snombi with a little husband and a calm life. This much stress aint my cup of tea, ya know?"

Everyone’s lips parted but no words came out.

They expected many things but not this self deprecating piece of speech!

"The fuck you on about? Did you touch my stuff?" Eva snarled first, taking out a backpack and searching for her stash of magic weed.

"Kate, I don’t like depressed fools. Take it back." Jaq, no longer playful and smiling, hissed.

"I won’t, Jaqueline." Katie shook her head firmly, "You’re a talented bitch, you won’t understand. You can comprehend your magic and shit too easily while I need to get stuck at the same stage for a long time.

I may not look it, but I am older than you all by at least 2 years, but I need Lia to babysit me!

Fuck this shit, you know?"

Katie’s voice cracked.
