My Shard Bearer System - Elias's Legacy-Chapter 53: Opening Mission
Chapter 53: Opening Mission
Elara stepped through the front door, Elias following closely behind, his steps steady but hesitant. The crisp air outside greeted them, but before they could proceed, a sharp shout rang out behind them.
"Hey! Where the hell are you going with him?"
They turned in unison, both startled by the voice. Standing in the doorway was Oliver, his hair disheveled and his expression painted with panic. His breathing was uneven, and his eyes darted between them, carrying a sense of urgency Elias hadn’t seen before.
Elias froze for a moment, his eyes widening at the sheer panic radiating from Oliver. Why does he look so frantic? Is it because I’m leaving? The door was open—he couldn’t have been too surprised by this... could he? The words of the Doctor about perception echoed in his mind, sending a chill through him.
His thoughts were cut short by Elara’s commanding voice. "Warden Commander Exaizer directly assigned me and my team to locate and capture two new shard users off the coast of Veyrion, on Tuiyaki Resort. This mission is critical."
Oliver’s eyes narrowed, and his voice came sharp and unrelenting. "That’s fine, and you can take whatever team you want, Platoon Commander. But you are not authorized to take a shard user without explicit approval from Warden Commander Gera!"
Elias stood there, torn between speaking up and staying silent. The tension around them grew thick, and as he hesitated, the hairs on his arms stood on end. A sudden warmth bloomed in his chest, followed by a quiet but frantic voice.
Elara placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Calm down; things will be alright. I’m here now... I’m sorry it took me so long."
"First Lieutenant Oliver," she continued, "I will not throw rank into this because I understand the situation and how our lives have been turned upside down over the last few weeks. But my main directive is to locate and bring in the two shard users on this island before they hurt someone, hurt themselves, or get attacked by the rebel group—or worse, get recruited by them. As of right now, we know they already have one shard user in the mix.
"Elias’s Ikona is key to locating them, but I will not allow him in combat, as he lacks the necessary training."
Oliver paused for a moment and replied, "This is unprecedented behavior! We don’t know how he might act around the populace. The only reason you’re given such leeway is because of your status."
Elias felt a sudden shock of revelation wash over him. Was I really this blind to his true feelings?
"We are in unprecedented times, First Lieutenant!" Elara insisted. "We cannot sit by idly while lives are at risk, nor can we risk strengthening the rebel group when we’re on the cusp of waiting for the aliens’ return.
"Once the mission is finished and the shard users are located, I’ll bring him back so he can begin the rest of his training. Better yet, I’ll conduct the training in the field; and if he becomes a problem, I will deal with it myself."
Oliver tried to respond, but Elara fired back, "Or do you question my abilities and talents after all these years?"
"I don’t," Oliver said quietly. "But I will still report this to Warden Commander Geras. He is not to see combat, though."
"Of course," Elara replied. "Hopefully, there won’t be any combat at all."
"I hope so too," Oliver admitted. "I’m sure you’ve heard that Warden Commander Dr. Anders was kidnapped. His extraction is happening just an island hop away... so be careful."
With that Elara stated "Alright; let’s get a move on as the same two women watched the whole ordeal go on as they blankly acted like they were reading a report. "
This is better drama than I expected the one on the right stated as Elara and Elias walked out of the facility and into the massive open sand dune expansive.
Elias looked out as the sun began to beat down on his head giving him a slight uncomfortable warmth and Elias stated "So where do we go from here... you didn’t walk all the way here right?
She gave a slight laugh and stated of course not and to be honest I came by more than just to show you that video.. I wanted to come and make sure you were well taken care of; I was hearing some disturbing stories about the treatment of the shard users.
As Elias began to talk she began to walk a sharp turn around the structure "Well; it wasn’t all to bad, though it’s only been 2 days roughly but everyone I’ve met so far don’t seem to mind to much; though a few seem edged to leave..
That’s good; though I still have my worries but I hope whatever they are doing will help us all in the end.
She placed a hand against the cube as it pushed in and the metal began to coil around and it opened up to a large expansive inside a purple ship with 2 wheels in the back and 1 wheel in the front.
Woah; Elias stated "You can fly Energy Repulsion planes?"
"Yea; been doing so for a few years now; though I did enjoy the old fossil fuel Jet versions but these are cleaner I suppose; less durable I guess." she stated
Removing a small remote from her pocket she clicked it and the front black pod atop opened up as she climbed up and in as she reached down and extended a hand down to Elias and stated "Alright; let’s get going."
Grabbing her arm, she helped him up as she slid into the black leatherized seats and pressed a side panel. A second seat slid open behind her, and she stated, "Alright. Go ahead and buckle in; given we have two shard users, we’re going to be moving fast-paced from here. If you find that reverse crap slowing you down or you need a break, let me know."
Elias crashed down into the seat as it closed up. She flickered a few more buttons, then pulled the handle as blue energy surged from behind, lifting them off the ground. Cube X disappeared in the rearview.
