Chapter 71- Interests

"Mmmmm..."

Elio tossed and turned around in the bed, unable to fall asleep again. Even though his body still felt quite exhausted, he couldn’t stop thinking about what he had heard earlier. His heart was racing, and his thoughts were chaotic.

His mind kept repeating the question Fiona asked... Why? Why did he do all of that for her, even though he could’ve escaped? Why did he risk his life just to protect her when the two were barely acquaintances who met a week ago?

He himself didn’t know why he did it, but deep down, every cell of his being told him that it was what he wanted. He didn’t even bother to think much about it; his body moved on its own, picked up Fiona, and ran with all his strength.

Even when the monsters attacked him, he didn’t think about escaping for a second. He stood there, fighting relentlessly. The way he put his body forth, taking all the attacks and stabs.

’What truly got into me at that moment? I felt like I wasn’t me anymore.’ He thought to himself as he stared into the wall. ’My body was moving on its own, and I was completely out of it. That feeling...’

Elio recalled it, and it was oddly satisfying. It was like something inside him had snapped, and he became a completely different person.

’Tsk, I’m discovering more and more things about myself that I never knew before.’ He mused. Each day, Elio realized how incomprehensible he was as a person. He thought he was a coward, yet he could be incredibly courageous; he thought he was ambitionless, yet he had the will to face incredible challenges and never give up.

Contradicting ideas that somehow existed within him without breaking him apart. Every single moment he had this contradiction, it was like a different person had taken over his body and become him.

’So odd... Why do I feel that way?’ Blinking slowly, Elio found himself in deep thought. Something just felt odd about it, and he couldn’t figure it out. For minutes, he kept thinking and thinking with no clear answer.

"How is my injured boy?~"

At that moment, Elio suddenly heard a sweet voice next to his ear, snapping him out of his daze as he quickly turned around to look, only to see a face barely inches away from him.

"What the fu- Mmmm, mmm..."

"Shhhh, honey. Don’t make a loud noise, they might discover us~"

Melissa had appeared out of nowhere, on top of him, with her hand on his mouth. The boy’s eyes widened to the extreme as he made muffled noises.

"Calm down." She said with a smile.

After a few seconds, Elio finally stopped resisting, and she slowly pulled her hand away.

"What the hell are you doing here?!" He said in a whispering yell as he looked at the door. This was ridiculous!

"Ehhh, I came to visit my sick baby~" She said with an innocent smile.

"This is the Vaylor Estate! Are you insane?!" He said. She had stepped into enemy territory as if it were nothing. How did she even do that?

"Hehe, don’t worry, they won’t detect me. The only person who has a chance to is not in here~"

"... You’re crazy."

"Hehe. That doesn’t matter now. What happened? I have heard that you got injured."

"It’s a really long story..." Elio sighed as he rose from the bed and signaled for Melissa to sit on the side. Instead, the woman sat in his lap and smiled at him as if it were the most obvious thing to do.

"You..."

"Go on~"

"... Sigh..." He didn’t find the strength to argue, so he decided to just tell her what happened.

He told her everything, from the very start, till the moment he faced the vampire, and everything after that. He noticed Melissa’s expression subtly change when he described the vampire to her, but it disappeared instantly.

"Oh my... You have been through so much, Elio."

"Yeah. I honestly don’t know how I survived."

"To think you faced such a tough challenge. I should’ve come to check on you, but I didn’t want to annoy you." She said. "Tsk."

"It’s ok, I survive so that’s what matters. I’m fine."

"I see... So you said that vampire was completely clad in a black veil?"

"Yeah... It looked like some sort of liquid or... Shadow? I don’t know. I couldn’t see his features properly." Elio explained. "Do you know him, Melissa?"

"Hm. No, I can’t figure out who it is from this. But, I am certain I would recognize him if I met him." She said. "The fact that he had put my Elio under so much danger. He’d better wish I would never find him because I won’t spare him."

Even though Melissa said that calmly, the sheer coldness those words carried sent chills down Elio’s spine. He could tell that she meant everything she said, and nobody could stop her.

That was what the strongest looked like. The queen of all Vampires.

"But, aren’t you worried your presence will be revealed, and it will cause you trouble?"

"Hm." Melissa closed her eyes for a second as if she was thinking before she spoke. "That Vampire had most likely come down here to look for me."

"What?!"

"Yeah. He had come down here to search for me."

"Can he find you?" Elio asked, worry flickering in his eyes. This was no joking matter. Two of the strongest vampires clashing would be ugly, incredibly ugly.

"Don’t worry. He won’t find me unless I wish for him to find me." Melissa said. "He also knows it’s a useless attempt, and that is why he most likely approached you and that Vaylor girl. How he discovered your existence is something I don’t understand. I am certain nobody knew about your existence from the moment you were born. I have made sure of that." Melissa said.

"Then how?"

If someone like Melissa said that nobody knew of his presence, then that was something to be taken as the truth because she had the knowledge and power to make sure of that. Yet, somehow, this individual had avoided her and was able to learn about Elio’s existence and even follow him closely.

"I will look into it." Melissa said. "As for this individual, don’t worry about him, Elio. He won’t harm you again. He himself knows that he’s in very deep trouble now that he had directly attacked the heir to the Vaylor family. He will most likely escape and go back to Eternal Sirene."

"What would happen now, Melissa?" Elio asked.

After this incident, everything was quite literally possible. He was worried things would get out of control completely.

"Hm, that man will certainly be angry."

"That man?"

"The Vaylor patriarch. He won’t let this slide. This directly harms his interests, and he will make sure it never happens again. Expect a move from their clan to find the culprit, and if he stays on Earth for another day, then they will certainly find him." Melissa said coldly.

’I wonder what that man will do. Will he really dare?’ She squinted her eyes. ’The next few days will be very interesting.’
