Chapter 72- Assets

Walking into her room, Fiona sat on the bed and looked at Alex, who was staring outside. He had been waiting for her to come back.

"So, how is our protagonist doing?" He asked with a sarcastic tone.

"Fortunately, he is fine. He was... asleep." Fiona said as she looked away, trying to forget what happened. "I’m glad he didn’t suffer any permanent injuries."

"Eh, I mean, when he has you, I’m sure you protected him."

"No." Fiona shook her head. "When I was injured, I got completely immobilized. Elio picked me up and ran for hours to save me. He had put his life on the line several times and didn’t leave my side the entire time."

Just remembering all of that sent chills down her spine. She was certain she wouldn’t forget it for the rest of her life. Especially those feelings she felt at that moment.

"That’s..." Alex seemed completely taken aback. "He didn’t strike me as someone who would do all of that."

"Yet he did. He didn’t step back or even think about escaping."

"..."

Staring into Fiona’s eyes, Alex noticed something a bit odd. She seemed a bit out of it, as if her mind was occupied with something. He had known her since childhood, so he would notice such details, and this was the first time he saw Fiona behave that way.

’Hmm, maybe she’s still thinking about the incident. It merely happened yesterday after all.’ He thought to himself.

"So, are you going to tell me what happened?" He asked.

"We were attacked by a Vampire Noble."

"... What?"

"Yes. I don’t know how he was able to get to us, but he di,d and he is way stronger than me. To the point where I couldn’t even put up a fight. He stabbed me in the stomach and left me there."

"... This is... What? How could it be? That forest area is completely under-"

"Our control? Yes, it’s still our territory, but he had gone in undetected. Then, there is what he said to us. He had recognized me and recognized Elio. That part is what bothers me the most. How did he come to know about his existence? It had been a secret I kept tightly."

Alex opened his mouth to speak before he closed it again and rubbed his face. "I’m so confused. What were his intentions?"

"I don’t know. He said he wanted to see Elio shine but I don’t understand what he means by that exactly. Then, he mentioned something about ’Not wanting to take him away’. It’s... Every time I try to wrap my head around it, it only gets more and more confusing."

Silence took over the room for a good while, with neither of the two speaking. This was horrendous news. If some Noble Vampire can walk into Vaylor territory unnoticed and do whatever he wishes, then that means he could easily do far worse things.

Stabbing Fiona was already a threat that could flip this world upside down.

"What are you going to do?" Alex asked.

"I have no other choice, I have to tell him." She said.

Hearing that, Alex’s face turned grim. He knew how much Fiona despised that man, and yet the fact that she was ready to take such a step told him how truly bad the situation was. It needed to involve him at all costs.

"Is he in the estate currently?"

"No. He had left a few days ago." She said as she pulled her phone out. She still had his number, so she could call him.

Staring at her screen for a good while, she finally took a deep breath and dialed it. The phone started ringing, and the entire room turned completely still as they heard the rhythmic sounds.

But, for a while, nobody replied. Fiona frowned, ready to hang up the call since he didn’t reply. However, at that moment, it suddenly picked up.

"..." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"..."

No one replied. But, she could see the timer starting to tick, indicating that someone was indeed on the other side.

"We need to talk." She said after a while. "Something important happened."

"..."

"I have been-"

"You have been stabbed."

An incredibly deep and cold voice replied. All the man said were four words and yet the entire room was immediately submerged in a coldness neither could resist.

Fiona squinted her eyes, she predicted that he would’ve already gotten the news. He had ears within the estate so something like this wouldn’t go unnoticed.

"Do you know who stabbed me?" She asked.

"Who?" The man replied.

"A Vampire Noble. Within your own territories." She said coldly. "How did he go unnoticed by you?"

"..."

The man didn’t reply for a while. She didn’t know what kind of reaction he had, but knowing her father, he would never make a reaction on his face. He was an incredibly stoic man, unmoved by anything around him. Even if the world were ending, he wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow.

"When? Where? And how?"

"The southern forest. It was earlier in the morning yesterday." She said.

"The southern forest?" The man seemed a bit confused. "What brought you there?"

"None of your business." She replied, not hesitating to shut him off before he tries to question her any further.

"I see. I’m heading back immediately. We will talk in person."

Without replying, Fiona hang up the call and sighed as she ran her hand through her hair. Talking to that man was always a stressful task. He was incredibly scheming and malicious, and he would always try to control everything around him. Dodging him is a task only she can do successfully, or at least that’s what she believes she does.

"That was quite unnerving. Your father is... something else..." Alex said with a nervous smile.

"In any case, he is going to collect everyone for an emergency meeting. I want you to go back and leave your family out of this. If they heard of this, they will definitely try to get involved. But, don’t let them."

"Why? We want to help."

"No. This isn’t something you can face. I have seen that Vampire... He is not something either of us can face."

That dominating power, that strength, and that pressure he exuded, the only person who could rival it is her father, and even then, she wasn’t certain if he could kill him.

What she was certain of, however, was that this was not the end of the story, and it could very easily escalate, knowing her father. If there was one thing he hated the most was his pride being touched.

He was a man with enough influence to change the world as he wished and for him, Fiona was a precious asset that can’t be touched. If someone dares to disrespect him by harming his assets then he must respond harshly and not leave any room for doubts to sew amongst the people.

That was what it meant to be the patriarch of Vaylor. You must be ruthless and decisive, so no one would dare to try that again, no matter who they are. Even if that individual is a Vampire Noble.
