My Weekly Refreshing Mentor Spirit-Chapter 264 - 248: Why Are You All Looking at Me?
Last time, they thought only Xue Dili was coming, so they casually took a big truck and came over, with everyone dressed casually, and some even just threw on a piece of cloth.
This time, however, they were much more formal, preparing at a diplomatic level.
Black luxury convertibles, each person in formal attire, although everyone's interpretation of formal wear was a bit different...
The Greeks wore laurel wreaths and pure white robes, draped like the kings of Athens on a trip; this thing is formally called the Dorian chiton, the formal attire of Divine Era Greece, beloved by the gods.
The downside is that it's a bit breezy, with large areas of arms and skin exposed.
The modern people naturally wore suits, watches, and ties; even Xue Dili dressed up in a mature formal suit instead of his previously favored casual little jacket look.
They also printed many copies of contract terms, as well as terms on cooperation, trade, diplomacy, and so forth.
These were all sorted out by the modern people, and with some Greek "military advisors," a fairly formal diplomatic document was printed out in dozens of copies.
"Are we really representing humanity like this? Shouldn't this be something your United Nations Secretary-General handles?" someone asked.
"Come on, Guterres, the Secretary-General, is too busy to handle this mess right now; plus, he's just a mediator, don't think the old man has that much power," Howard said while pointing at Xue Dili, "Besides, while we may not represent humanity, we can at least represent Earth, right?"
"Oh!"
"I also suggest that we handle all extraordinary matters in the future and not disclose even a bit to ordinary people," the old mystic scholar complained, "I really want to kick the butt of the U.S. military; they blew up the Divine Wood before, caused a bigger disaster, and even got me killed once. Next time something like that happens, I really want to go to the White House and harshly insult those politicians."
"Yikes!"
"Croak!"
"Hey!"
"Count me in for the ultimate insult, I'm in!"
"You're out of your mind..."
...
The group set off in four loud and noisy convertibles towards the Dragon Race's gathering place.
Actually, Xue Dili quite agrees that extraordinary matters should be handled by the extraordinary, and ordinary matters by the ordinary, in this world.
Both parties do not interfere, like parallel lines that never intersect.
After all, for them, being a world-renowned capitalist with a gigantic multinational company, while secretly being a Masked Rider passing by to deal with Plant Monsters, is much more enjoyable than being a King or something.
After all, the joy of being a capitalist is beyond what those Greek kings of old could even imagine.
The Elder Council of the Dragon Race was also quite formal today, Xue Dili saw most of the elders, along with the Silver Dragon King and some new generation giant dragons present.
The next hours saw lengthy discussions on detailed terms and collaborations between the two sides.
The main terms were that dragons should not expose their identities nor display unusual abilities in front of ordinary people (unless knocking them out or using hypnosis), and dragons should not actively attack humans, but are allowed to defend themselves appropriately when attacked with ill intentions.
The rest were miscellaneous details sorted out by Austin, Doctor Xue, and Odysseus, who were few in number but significant as military advisors.
At this point, Xue Dili realized how busy his parallel world self probably was, having gone from a clinical medicine, disaster medicine, and biology PhD to handling Plant Monsters and writing documents.
He's the only clerk in the entire company.
He's basically working 15-hour days now.
So upon seeing the Dragon Race he had a headache so bad he wished to merge with himself, throwing all the mess to another him, and slack off.
This is because there were no available personnel, forcing him to bite the bullet and deal with it.
Xue Dili glanced around... alright, writing and planning was really something only he could handle.
Everyone else was either Greeks excited for battle, or mystic scholars.
As noon passed, both sides had argued over basic detailed terms, with most points mutually recognized and compromised upon, yet some issues were vigorously contended, as if they weren't resolved now, they'd become more troublesome in the future.
Finally, Doctor Xue pulled out a document.
"The 'Plan and Work Regarding the Elimination of Plant Monsters' is the last one; we'll provide intelligence, logistics, and a range of support, along with officially providing combat personnel. In turn, we need your Dragon Race to provide a certain number of personnel to support us, and be willing to travel globally with us..."
"Wait, we object to the clause about clearing Plant Monster corpses..." the Silver Dragon King raised an objection.
Clearing corpses...
This has been a chronic issue for their company, as these Plant Monsters have to be treated with bacteriophage and then either incinerated or crushed, otherwise if left on the spot, they'll turn into a tree over time, similar to a Divine Wood splinter tree.
But where do they find so much bacteriophage solution or the energy to do all that prep work?
They only have a few dozen people in total.
So dealing with corpses is actually the most headache-inducing and troublesome part.
"May I ask what your side requires?" Dr. Xue rubbed his eyes with dark circles, feeling like he might suddenly collapse here one day.
"In this clause, each time a Plant Monster is killed, there is a subsidy of 1000 USD. Can we instead take the corpses for our handling instead of this currency?" the Silver Dragon King proposed their request.
The others were stunned, completely unable to imagine that the opposite side didn't want money or resources, and instead were offering to work for free and even help deal with the corpses?
Is there really such a good deal?
Seeing the humans' strange expressions, the Silver Dragon King's expression changed. She also felt it was too much to take all the energy for herself. She gritted her teeth and said painfully, "We will exchange Dragon Blood Fruits, for every 100 corpses we will provide one Dragon Blood Fruit as compensation, and we will buy each corpse back with a human currency equivalent to 1 ton of grain..."
She raised the stakes again.
The humans were even more dumbfounded.
No way, you're working for free and even paying money to work?
Odysseus noticed the "Dragon Blood Fruit" in the deal, and he quickly pulled Xue Dili aside and asked, "What exactly is a Dragon Blood Fruit?"
Xue Dili had also checked backstage and then said strangely, "They have been 'fruit farmers' for other civilizations for tens of millions of years and have also learned to embezzle some energy for their own benefit. You can consider the Dragon Blood Fruit as something that subtly grants you Demigod-level (Quasi-Legendary Level or above) strength, but it does have drawbacks."
"Oh?" Odysseus was instantly interested and asked, "What drawbacks?"
"The effects can stack if you consume more, but your genes will get polluted by Dragon Race genes, and you will gradually become a Dragon Race hybrid," Xue Dili quipped, "Also, this stuff is addictive, roughly about the same as tobacco and alcohol."
Xue Dili also knew what the Dragon Race was thinking. Humans couldn't make use of them, and the bodies were hard to manage. For the Dragon Race, they were like ginseng babies, and they would definitely use these ginseng babies' corpses as fertilizer to grow suitable fruits for Dragon Race babies.
Most of these fruits would be juiced for newborn dragon babies to drink, making it easier for little dragons to absorb, and the Giant Dragons could naturally just crunch these Plant Monsters like crispy snacks.
And he roughly calculated that 100 corpses were enough to plant one Dragon Blood Tree, which matures once a year, bearing dozens of Dragon Blood Fruits with no problem.
Odysseus was momentarily stunned, and then his grin was harder to suppress than an AK's.
No money, no resources, even paying to handle corpses and also offering fruits that enhance power, this Dragon Race — they're like our siblings from different parents!
Brothers, brothers, you look appealing! Let's be brothers for life, and start a mercenary company together! 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Returning to the negotiation table, Odysseus was full of vigor and immediately said, "We don't need grain currency compensation, but for every 100 corpses, we require 10 Dragon Blood Fruits in exchange."
"Impossible!" The Dragon Race instantly got agitated, starting a tug-of-war and haggling.
Odysseus had hit their lifeline in an instant; out of 100 corpses, they could only produce a few dozen fruits at most; taking ten would equate to working a year for nothing, which was absolutely unacceptable.
Then this mischievous Odysseus engaged in a battle of tongues, something he excelled at, and after hours of pulling and bargaining, they finally agreed on a trade of 7 Dragon Blood Fruits per 100 corpses, but the humans needed to give all the Plant Monster corpses' retrieval rights to the Dragon Race.
Odysseus's grin spread wide as he whispered, "I internally priced it at around 4, didn't expect them to agree at 7, too easy to deceive!"
Xue Dili: "..."
This number was probably where the Dragons felt the sting but could still accept.
Regarding funds, he felt the Dragons could naturally earn enough money themselves once they adapted to the rules here. While the Silver Dragon King might seem silly, the members of the Elder Council were cunning as dragons.
Upon finally handling the cooperation clauses, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and was infinitely happy.
The Dragon Race was glad to have returned to their homeland and found so many useful ginseng babies there, they could still develop, and a vibrant future of life competing and thriving lay ahead.
And Odysseus, along with his negotiation experts, danced with joy; they'd found new mercenaries for their company, dragons to handle paperwork, clean up corpses, and also receive Dragon Blood Fruits in return.
Absolutely thrilling!
With this, they could regain peak Demigod strength, and with Xue Dili's nod, the World Consciousness would likely turn a blind eye, as long as they did not disturb the ordinary world, the World Consciousness should not obstruct them.
It was a triple win!
"We agree to your clauses, but we have a request we need to discuss," the Silver Dragon King stated, taking out a scroll on the Elder Council's directions.
"Uh..." Those who were about to get up and return to the farm to open champagne were suddenly startled and sat back at the negotiation table.
"What request?" Odysseus asked.
"Our Dragon Race wishes to form a marital alliance with your humans for generations. The Dragon Race will send a princess to become the wife of your leader, and one of the human leader's children will need to be our Dragon King's queen or prince... to ensure our everlasting friendship as brothers through generations," said the Silver Dragon King.
Everyone: "..."
Alliance by marriage huh, seems like in negotiations alliances through marriage are quite normal... aren't they?
And a human leader, do we even have a leader? Huh... wait a minute...
All eyes turned to Xue Dili and Dr. Xue (whom the Dragons considered twins).
And Dr. Xue immediately said, "Married person, not responsible!"
Then all eyes turned towards Xue Dili, leaving him momentarily startled, "What are you all looking at me for?"
