Netori Harem: New life as a hunter and gatherer-Chapter 52: Wounded and cost
"Ahh..." Luke exhaled aloud as he stretched his arms, hearing a few bones snapping and the tension releasing from his muscles.
Slowly rising from the bed, he noticed he was still fully naked with a thin sheet covering his lower half.
Looking down his chest, he noticed there were still some traces of his dear mother’s claws, but they weren’t as glaring as they were last night.
’My regeneration is quite better now,’ He muttered to himself.
Even though he had been physically working quite a lot, especially last night when they went at it for hours, until Monica was on the verge of fainting. And yet, in the morning, not even a trace of exhaustion could be sensed.
[A common application of Gamma, host.]
Luke hummed in understanding before rising to his feet and asking the system, ’Tell me... how many points do I have again?’
[Attribute Points: 5]
[Gamma Points: 530]
Luke nodded as he pulled on his pants. "What about my stats?"
[Stats:
Str: 15
Spd: 12
Def: 13
Int: 12
Gamma: 50]
Luke took a moment to distribute his points between speed and intelligence. Two went to speed and three to intelligence.
The system had suggested raising all his stats to twenty before leveling up, but Luke felt he would be ready soon. So the moment he gained the required points, he would level up and obtain another skill.
And for that, he needed Gamma points.
"I hope you’ll be generous enough to shower me with points today."
After putting on his shirt, he decided to leave the room.
Quests weren’t generated while he was resting and doing nothing. He needed to meet people, interact with them, and occasionally find himself in risky situations for quests to appear. That didn’t mean he had to put his life in danger every single time, though.
Stepping out of the room, he peeked into the kitchen. His brows furrowed when he realized his dearest wasn’t there.
"Mom?" he called out as he turned toward the living area.
The house was unusually silent. A sudden suspicion settled in his chest.
He slowly moved toward the dining hall, his steps cautious.
Then he noticed that every member of the family was gathered around a single person.
Lex.
The man was groaning in pain as he leaned back against a chair, his forehead covered in sweat.
"What... happened?" Luke asked, his brows raised. His gaze fell on the thin fabric wrapped around Lex’s calf, completely drenched in blood and it was clear the man was in a lot of pain.
His voice made the others turn toward him. A moment later, the eldest one in the house spoke.
"His foot got stuck in a trap and he injured himself," Gustav explained with a sigh.
Luke nearly chuckled at those words but held himself back, considering how seriously everyone else was taking the situation.
Monica turned to her son and asked, "Dear... can you do something about it? Your brother appears to be in a lot of pain."
Laila scoffed. "He isn’t a medic, for male."
Luke rolled his eyes. Well, she wasn’t entirely wrong. He would much rather spend his time healing a beautiful woman than caring for the man who had bullied him his entire life.
Luke sighed and glanced at his mother again.
Big mistake.
Those glassy, round eyes struck straight at his heart.
Rubbing his brow, he said, "Okay, let me see it first."
The others stepped aside, giving him space as Luke crouched in front of his brother, who was gritting his teeth and clenching his fists in pure pain.
Calling a medic for this would cost a lot. Everyone knew that. And Lex hadn’t been able to hunt much lately to afford their fees.
Luke was reluctant to help this bastard, but knowing how much his condition would worry Monica left him with little choice.
"I will pay you whatever you demand. Just... please heal him," Dalia said, perhaps mistaking his silence for hesitation.
Luke allowed a faint smirk to form at those words.
Well, he couldn’t deny a beauty’s request, could he?
Humming to himself, Luke removed the fabric covering the wound and winced at the sight.
It was bad.
Dark pus had gathered around his calf. The blood had clotted in places, yet a thin stream of fresh blood still trickled down.
Two finger-wide holes in his calf clearly showed that the trap had been meant for a much larger monster.
Luke lightly touched the wound, collected a droplet of blood, and asked,
’Analyze his condition.’
[Analyzing...]
[Muscle damage. Minor bone crack. Possible tetanus infection. Nerve injury. No compartment syndrome.]
[Host, do you want the system to prescribe every item required to stabilize the condition?]
’Yeah, go ahead.’
As he responded to the system, he spoke to his mother. "Bring me a lot of water and add salt to it."
The room fell silent, and Dalia immediately asked, "Saline water?"
"Are you actually planning to torture him?" Laila added.
Luke growled, "If you’re just going to question me, then watch him die. I don’t care."
He suddenly stood up, only for Monica to speak.
"No, please, Luke. I trust you. And the rest of you, remain silent if you can’t do anything."
Her stern glare silenced them.
Laila scoffed and crossed her arms. Caleb remained quiet, while Dalia still looked worried.
Monica hurried inside to bring the water.
Meanwhile, the system displayed the required items.
[Antiseptic, bandages, tetanus solution, painkiller solution, antibiotic solution, syringes, sterile water.]
[Total cost: 50G]
Luke gave a wry smile at the number.
Really? Was he seriously about to spend that many points on his brother?
He looked up at Lex, who was currently doing everything he could not to scream in pain or faint from the agony.
Luke was still contemplating his decision when suddenly—
[Quest: Perform a perfect treatment.]
[Reward: 30G]
"...."
What the hell was this system?
Was it some kind of saint operating behind the screen?
Well, regardless. Now, he would be not losing much by spending on the supplies, and doing this he might get some action later with Dalia. So, it was kind of no loss only win.
’Alright, let’s get started.’
