New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 196: NO ONE CAN HURT HER
Chapter 196: NO ONE CAN HURT HER
"What exactly happened?" Catherine asked curiously.
Aristia let out a breath.
"I was trying to feel the connection with Millie, and ended up in this white space. I saw Millie inside big chains." While speaking, she kept her eyes fixed on Wilson to know which part of what happened to her was normal or at least common.
"The white room changed to hills. When I climbed down, there was a meadow. I walked through it and saw a cave. When I entered the cage, this overprotective fire-spitting troll the same size as me shows up, calls himself the guardian of the cave, and starts chasing me around because apparently, I’m a ’trespasser’." She rolled her eyes.
"A fire-spitting troll?" Catherine repeated, looking like she wasn’t sure whether to laugh or be concerned. Trolls were only told about in folktales and fables.
Wilson, though, looked more concerned and stunned than anything else.
Adeline looked confused, and Owen had a straight face, watching Wilson’s reaction to determine whether Aristia’s words were normal or not.
Wilson’s reaction made Aristia a bit uneasy, but she continued, giving a rough summary of what happened.
"A troll?!" Catherine asked incredulously when she figured Aristia wasn’t joking about seeing a troll, glancing at Wilson just like Owen to see if it was normal.
From her husband’s expression, it wasn’t.
Her curiousity changed to concern and unease.
She sighed, brushing a strand of hair from Aristia’s face, before turning to Adeline. "Adeline, prepare a bowl of light porridge for the princess."
"That again?!" She groaned. "I need to stop falling unconscious for days."
Her parents chuckled.
Aristia stirred, trying to get up from the bed, but Wilson’s hand on her shoulder stopped her.
"No," he said firmly, then sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "You’ve been unconscious for two days. Rest first. You need to regain your strength before you resume your activities." Moving included, he added internally.
Aristia hesitated, before she reluctantly agreed with a sigh and leaned back. "Fine." She huffed. It wasn’t like she could refuse anyway.
After staying in the room a little longer, Wilson and Catherine left the room. Owen left not long after, leaving Aristia with Alaric and Millie.
Aristia guessed that Wilson had gone looking for an answer just like earlier when they had discovered her daemon could change forms.
But it didn’t seem like he had gotten an answer then...
Adeline returned with a tray. She handed Aristia a glass of water.
Only after Aristia gulped down the full glass of water did she realize how parched she was.
She returned the empty glass to Adeline and moved to take the bowl of porridge, but Adeline evaded her hand, moving the bowl out of her reach.
"Let me feed you, princess." Adeline took a seat beside her on the bed.
Aristia frowned but didn’t argue. This time, there was also some soft, clearly freshly baked bread in the tray.
Adeline slowly fed her, very gently like she was handling something very precious.
[Well, I am precious.]
Silence filled the room except for the soft clink of the spoon against the bowl. Even Alaric didn’t speak, only patting Millie’s fur.
Once Aristia finished eating, Adeline tidied the tray.
Aristia returned to a half lying position, leaning against the headboard.
Alaric eventually broke the silence by crawling onto Aristia’s lap, ignoring Millie’s soft growl.
"I don’t care about breaking the chains or daemons," he said seriously, wrapping his arms around her. "I just want you to be okay, Tia."
Aristia hugged him back, feeling something tugging at her heartstrings. "I’ll be fine, Al."
Alaric’s words filled her heart with love. She knew how much he loved daemons, and yet, here he was, saying he didn’t care about them because of her.
[He’s the best younger brother.]
"But are you okay, Tia?" He asked, looking up at her with wide eyes.
His sister had been falling unconscious a lot recently. He couldn’t help but be worried even though he knew the reason why, just like his parents.
Aristia nodded seriously. "Yes, I’m fine. I’m not lying."
Alaric still looked worried. His brows were furrowed, and his lips were drawn together in a cute pout. She pinched his chubby cheeks and chuckled when he scrunched up his nose.
[Aww, look at this four year old acting so mature like an adult.] She cooed in her heart.
"I’m really fine, Al. Just slightly tired. But I’m sure I’ll be fine after resting a bit like papa said."
"Yes, princess Tia just needs a little rest. How about we leave her alone, prince Alaric?" Adeline suggested.
Alaric nodded slowly. He hesitated, then surprised Aristia by leaning in and planting a sloppy kiss on her cheek.
"Hehe," Aristia chuckled after getting past the surprise, then she returned the gesture twofold, kissing his cheeks and forehead. "I’ll see you later, Al."
Alaric beamed and left the room, and Adeline followed after him after refilling the water jug. With a light bow, she left and closed the door behind her, leaving Aristia alone with Millie.
Now that she was alone in her room, Aristia was beginning to feel drowsy. Her eyelids became heavy and her head started to droop.
Before she could give in to the pull of sleep, she heard her name being whispered.
’Aristia...’
"Who’s there?" Aristia’s eyes darted around the room. She stiffened when the voice came again.
There was no one in the room except for her and Millie. Was she hallucinating because of fatigue? The sleep cleared from her eyes and she was wide awake.
’Hello, Aristia...’
She heard the voice again.
She looked around before something clicked.
[When I broke the chains partially or fully, wouldn’t I be able to communicate with Millie mentally? There’s only me and Millie here, then that means...]
Her head snapped down to her laps. Millie was staring at her, with an intense gaze.
A light passed through her eyes for a second and Aristia wasn’t sure if it was the light from the window or something else.
Aristia heard the voice again, this time, it sounded clearer.
’Aristia, it’s me.’
Aristia’s breath hitched for a second at the sensation that felt like someone speaking in her head.
’Millie?’ She asked, but her lips didn’t move and her mouth remained closed.
’Yes, it’s me. I can finally communicate with you now.’
Aristia blinked. ’Oh my God! It’s good to finally be able to hear you speak. No offense, but I kinda felt like I was having a one-sided conversation, you know?’ She told Millie.
’It’s because you freed me, even though it’s partly.’ Millie chuckled.
’Yeah...’ Aristia chuckled softly, still getting used to hearing Millie’s voice in her head.
Their conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," she gave permission to whoever was on the other side.
The door creaked open, and Alaric poked his head in, his eyes stopping on her.
"Tia."
"You’re back, Al." She quickly got over her surprise at seeing Alaric in her room after a short time. She motioned with her hand for him to come in.
Alaric nodded and walked in. He climbed back into the bed.
"I’ll stay with you." He said, scooting closer to her.
"Okay." Aristia nodded.
She slid down from the headboard, changing from her sitting position to lying down.
She looked out the window at the warm sun and a yawn escaped her lips. She closed her eyes to sleep.
Meanwhile, in their parents’ room.
The couple was in the bedroom at the moment, their faces holding different expressions.
"I’m worried about Tia. Whenever something like this happens, she falls unconscious." Catherine sat on the bed, clutching the sheets with worry.
"I know. It’s normal to fall unconscious." Wilson held her hand softly, slowly releasing her tight grip on the bed.
"But for three days? And now two?" Catherine looked up at him. When her brother manifested a daemon and broke the chains, he wasn’t unconscious for so long.
"Tia’s situation is different. It could be because she’s a female. It’s always been males who manifest aura and daemons. Tia’s an exception." Wilson explained. That was the only reason he could think of.
"I know..." Catherine sighed. "I’m just worried Tia will be in danger. Not many will be pleased if they find out she has a daemon, royalty or not. What if... someone tries to harm her?"
Wilson’s left hand clenched so hard his knuckles turned white at the mere thought of someone laying a hand on his daughter. There was a dark look in his eyes. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
He took a deep breath, raised his wife’s hands to his lips and slowly left kisses on them. "Don’t worry, my love. Tia will be fine. No one will find out. Even if anyone does, it wouldn’t change anything."
Catherine looked into his eyes and nodded.
"Yes, you’re right. No one can harm her."
Wilson released her hand, a deep look in his eyes.
