Night of Despair-Chapter 109 - : Electric Motor One - Alliance Hierarch
Chapter 109: Electric Motor One – Alliance Hierarch
Buzz.
The Jeep slowly drove across an ancient, grey stone bridge and stopped to the right.
Below the bridge was the almost-dried-up black river water, with weeds as tall as a person growing densely on both sides of the river.
A light breeze blew, rustling softly.
Click.
The car door opened, and Yu Hong got out with the club, slinging it over his shoulder. Then he surveyed the surroundings.
...
Roar!
Just as he had stepped out of the vehicle, a familiar cry came through the fog not far away.
Hiss.
A wave of irritation crackled through Yu Hong’s helmet.
“Another Multi-eyed Bird.”
He took off the club and turned his head toward the direction of the sound in the sky.
After quietly waiting for a few seconds, a huge white shadow suddenly burst out from the enveloping grey mist.
The white shadow moved extremely fast, heading straight for Yu Hong like an arrow.
Just as it was about to reach him, a black Wolf Fang Club swung out sharply, striking right at its forehead.
Like a baseball, the Multi-eyed Bird didn’t even get the chance to react before it was hit ruthlessly on the head by the tremendous force.
Its massive bird head burst open on the spot, and the rest of its body was sent flying by the club, crashing into the cement bungalows near the bridge.
Whew.
Yu Hong reinserted the club on his back; having fought Multi-eyed Birds often, he had grown familiar with them, and this one was smaller and weaker than others he had faced before.
Watching the Multi-eyed Bird crash to the ground, flapping its wings in a futile struggle—headless yet still twitching as if attempting to stand—Yu Hong advanced a few steps to stand in front of it. He watched its exploded head rapidly heal and a new bird head quickly grow back.
Roar!
The Multi-eyed Bird pecked at Yu Hong again, its sharp beak striking towards his face.
But at such close distance, without acceleration, the beak wasn’t fast, and Yu Hong caught it with his bare hand.
He gripped the beak and slammed it down to the ground.
Bang!

The Multi-eyed Bird’s body shook violently, gray blood spurting out as it was smashed.
It struggled furiously, claws scratching wildly against Yu Hong’s body.
But such a struggle was of no use to Yu Hong now.
Familiar with the attack pattern and strength of the Multi-eyed Bird, he grabbed its beak and smashed it down again with a backward pull.
This strike disturbed the balance of the bird once more, slamming it hard against the ground again, its bones cracking, breaking countless times.
Yu Hong didn’t stop, grabbing the beak and furiously smashing it against the ground over and over, until he had turned the smaller Multi-eyed Bird into a lump of mush, hanging limp from his hand like an empty skin.
Only then did he stop and flung it under the bridge.
Plop.
Black water splashed, the bird’s body sank, and vanished out of sight.
Yu Hong exhaled.
“They just keep coming back…” in just a few minutes, he had killed that little bird at least a dozen times, but each time it would easily recover, with no end in sight.
Had he not been preoccupied, he would have been curious to see just how many times that damn bird could resurrect.
After discarding the bird, he checked the direction and, following the route he had asked about earlier, quickly moved towards the copse enveloped in the grey mist.
The copse was lush, the leaves an uncommon shade of red-purple, yet they were not maple leaves, and what species they were was anyone’s guess.
Thick purple fallen leaves covered the forest floor, crunching underfoot.
Hiss.
Yu Hong sniffed, even through his breathing valve he could detect a faint scent of protein decay.
After passing through the copse, he encountered a barbed-wire fence, hung with warning metal signs.
The warning sign, yellow with red lettering, read: “Danger Area Ahead, Do Not Enter.”
“This must be the place.” Yu Hong took out the token chip, checked the inscription on the back, and confirmed he was on the right path.
“Fortunately, it’s relatively safe here during the day, but that Multi-eyed Bird appeared just now. How could that girl dare to entice passersby on the street? Isn’t she afraid of being killed by a Multi-eyed Bird?”
Yu Hong marched forward, smashed a large hole through the barbed-wire fence with the club, and stepped through, pondering to himself.
“Perhaps they have a special way to avoid the Multi-eyed Birds or maybe the birds here aren’t as strong as the ones in my area.”
He had personally tested it; the smaller-sized Multi-eyed Birds here were only about two-thirds as powerful and much slower than their counterparts near the safety shelter.
He stepped through the big hole in the barbed-wire fence and entered the blocked-off woodland.
Not far ahead, in the middle of the forest, stood a two-story conical grey building.
The building’s door faced Yu Hong, half-open, with a sign posted on it: “Civil Defense.”

Inside the underground civil defense tunnel.
“Come on, come on, come on!”
Black Crow touched his bare head before putting his helmet back on, urging his subordinates to hurry up with assembling the items to be moved, load them onto the trailer, and prepare to pull them out of the civil defense shelter to be loaded onto the truck outside and leave.
There were more than a dozen of them, gathered at another exit of the civil defense passageway, an exit with about thirty degrees of slope, more than ten meters in width, allowing vehicles to pass through.
Among these people, at least four were enhanced by exposure to luminous stone radiation, making their strength far greater than that of an average person.
This wasn’t just a matter of strength disparity; it was because of the strength gap that the equipment they wore and the weapons they carried were far more powerful and robust than those of an ordinary person.
That was the true source of their amplified power.
“Bro Crow, more people are at entrance number one, the sensors detected movement.” While transporting items, a skinny man with glasses approached and whispered.
He was the scout of the Black Crow Team, and to keep a unified style, he was nicknamed Hei Mu. He was talented in handling electronic equipment.
“How many?” Black Crow frowned and glanced at the nuclear engine being carefully lifted by four people and placed into a trailer.
The engine was the size of a freezer, all black, with numerous ports and pipe openings. It didn’t look big, but it was quite heavy.
“One. Probably just some guy who wandered in looking for supplies by accident,” Hei Mu said, pushing his glasses up on his nose.
“One? Hyena, take care of it, and make it quick. Once it’s done, we leave,” Black Crow ordered a man leaning against the wall in the corner.
“…Got it.” The man responded dully and strode off into the depths of the civil defense passage.
After Hyena had fully left, Black Crow turned around and clapped his hands.
“Alright, everyone move quickly!”
“Boss, are we really going to wait for Hyena?” one of them asked with a smile.
“Wait, my ass. Let’s get moving!” Black Crow scoffed. Hyena had been a pain for a long time; he had just taken the opportunity to send him away.
About ten people chuckled softly, not surprised, as each hefty man started dragging the carts up the slope towards the exit.
Soon, a strange scream from a Multi-eyed Bird echoed outside, but it was quickly silenced by an intense explosion, aided by several enhanced humans. The Multi-eyed Bird was temporarily taken out by a heat weapon.
“Move fast! Don’t get caught! You can’t kill the Multi-eyed Bird!” Black Crow quickly urged.
He was the only one among this group who was closest to being fully enhanced.
Except for his head, his entire body had undergone luminous stone radiation-guided enhancement, significantly boosting his speed and strength.
“Yes!”
The group hurriedly responded.
One by one, the trailers were pulled to the surface, and the nuclear engine was carried into a small truck hidden in the woods. They also loaded other assorted materials onto the trucks.
A total of five solar-powered small trucks were quickly assembled and started up their engines.
Black Crow and the last three men boarded the final truck. He looked back at the civil defense base and chuckled, “Too bad. If it weren’t for the increasing number of Multi-eyed Birds around, we could’ve scammed more people here. And hauled away even more stuff.”
“Bro Crow is right, if it weren’t for…” Hei Mu joined in the laughter.
Bang!
Just then, a gunshot erupted.
The bullet instantly penetrated the truck window, slicing through the air, creating a transparent ripple, and hitting Black Crow’s helmet right between the eyebrows.
Black Crow’s body jerked backward, a deep bullet hole appearing on his forehead, denting the metal helmet severely. But regrettably, there was a thick alloy plate inside the helmet, which perfectly blocked the bullet’s penetration.
“Ah!!!” He only reacted then, letting out a painful roar.
With a roll, he burst out the door, raising his gun and firing randomly in the direction the bullet came from.
Bang bang bang bang!!
Not just him, the other team members also got out of the trucks and started shooting.
The target they were firing at was a sudden appearance of silhouettes in camouflage uniforms in the forest ahead.
The gunfire quickly stopped; the bullets were limited, and no one had time to reload.
The five silhouettes in camouflage quickly closed in and engaged hand-to-hand with Black Crow’s team.
These five had agile movements and held short blades. Upon contact, they quickly cut down several members of the Black Crow Team.
The leader of the five, over two meters tall, wielding a knife and a shield, took big steps towards Black Crow.
“Xiao Feng!” he shouted.
A shorter figure then emerged beside him, swinging a hammer at Black Crow’s lower body.
The two showed perfect coordination, swiftly surrounding Black Crow in close combat.
“Lang Feng? You really dare to leave your base to seek death?!” Black Crow recognized the man and sneered on the spot, pulling out an alloy club from his back and rushing forward without hesitation.
“You’ve tricked and killed so many people; you think I didn’t notice?!” Lang Feng said coldly.
In an instant, the three clashed. The club, hammer, and knife collided rapidly, sending sparks flying.
All three were incredibly swift and forceful, but Black Crow’s overall strength and physique were clearly superior to Lang Feng’s duo.
Occasionally, the hammer and knife landed on his body, but with special bulletproof armor, he didn’t even bother to defend. Focusing solely on offense, he quickly gained the upper hand.
“I didn’t kill your men on purpose, what’s it to you?!” Black Crow retorted.
“Where is Zhao Huaijun?!” Lang Feng suddenly shouted. He changed his tactics, becoming more unpredictable and fierce, rolling to Black Crow’s side and viciously aiming his knife at a seam in the bulletproof vest.

Inside the underground civil defense.
The pitch-black passage, at certain intervals, was lit by an atomic lamp clinging to the wall, emitting a green light.
The passage was silent and lengthy, with steel doors either closed or open on both sides.
The dark ground was littered with various life supply packages, tattered clothes, and socks. Occasionally, one could spot dried patches of yellow urine in the corners, emitting a foul stench.
Yu Hong frowned and quickened his pace, looking around for the so-called power supply room.
If Wei Hongye’s information was correct, all he had to do was find the power supply room, use the chipboard he had, insert it, and he could take the miniature nuclear engine inside.
‘This place is pretty big… too many rooms. It’d be great to have a schematic layout.’ With this thought, he began to carefully scan the walls. Typically, facilities like this would have layouts posted on the walls at entrances and exits.
That purposeful search paid off. Soon, he found a yellowed plastic schematic layout on the right side of a junction.
After examining the layout closely, he used the marked red dot to pinpoint his location. Then he located the power supply room and figured out how he should travel there from where he was, choosing the best route…
Bang!!
Suddenly, a repair hammer hit Yu Hong at the back of his head.
