Chapter 180: Nightmare

‎"Veliscera!"

The blissful dream had turned into a vícious nightmare.

‎The beautiful woman smiled at him, then abruptly lunged forward, her nails elongating into ghastly talons.

‎Morgan leapt back, but instead of moving back, his body moved in the opposite direction.

‎ An invisible force catapulted him forward, straight into thewoman’sn outstretched hand.

‎The woman’s talons curled around his neck,, holding him with an iron grip.

‎"You’re one of his, lightspawn."

‎Morgan’s eyes widened slightly.

‎"Lightspawn?! "

‎Azaroth had mentioned the same thing.

‎"This is the end of the road for you."

‎Her crushing grip around his neck abruptly tightened.

‎Despite her petite frame, the crushing strength in the woman’s hands was anything but petite. Truth be told, it was downright unreal.

‎"Help!"

‎He struggled to get the words through his throat, slowly feeling his throat get crushed under the immense pressure.

Strangely enough, none of the people around him made a move to help him.

‎Morgan struggled against the iron grip, frantically feeling for his connection to the Void World.

‎There was no umbralis to call upon, nothing to augment his body, and his opponent was inhumanly strong.

‎Morgan felt the strength slowly leave his body, his hands hitting uselessly at the woman’s petite hands.

‎An agitated voice rang through the air.

‎"That’s enough!"

‎A moment later, Valerius’ form appeared next to the petite figure, whipping through the air with uncanny speed.

‎Just then jarring snap echoed through his body then everything went dark.

‎Morgan abruptly jolted awake, his eyes bloodshot and his breathing turning ragged.

‎He frantically grabbed at his throat, his eyes darting around warily, almost expecting that the beautiful demoness would appear out of the darkness to finish him off.

‎Instead, unfamiliar surroundings greeted him.

‎A warm fire was burning in front of him, and he was covered in a...

‎His eyes widened slightly.

‎" Blanket?

‎The blanket turned out to be a thick fur from an unknown creature.

‎The six other youths sat around him languidly, staring at him in surprise.

‎In the next moment, a wave of searing pain erupted through his hands, radiating up his arms, then his torso.

‎Morgan groaned, curling up in pain.

‎Slowly lifting up his hands, Morgan gasped in shock.

‎Several ominous dark cracks ran through the skin of his hands.

‎The others stared at him quietly.

‎A loud rumbling sound abruptly cut through the silence.

‎Morgan smiled sheepishly.

‎Lucian chuckled.

‎" Makes sense, you’ve been out of it for quite a while. "

‎Even seeing Morgan now, Lucian couldn’t quite believe that he’d managed to pull off defeating the entity within the wall.

‎From the way Emily had described it, the Talented girl had been powerless against it herself...and yet Morgan had managed to defeat it.

‎The wounds on your hands refused to heal, even with your accelerated healing and Talia’s expert knowledge on healing.

‎"Something in the wounds, something that my family had to encounter before, is preventing the wounds from healing completely."

‎" How did you manage to get this?" Morgan asked curiously, gesturing towards the thick fur.

‎Lucian grinned, offering him a long skewer of meat.

‎Morgan stared at the long skewer of meat in shock.

‎" Meat? But how?"

‎Lucian handed him the meat, then smiled.

‎"Eat up. We’ll explain everything."

‎Themouth-wateringg aroma seeped through the air, overpowering the sensation of pain running through his arms for a split second.

‎Morgan bit into the meat, then paused, savouring the juices flowing downhiss throat.

‎He closed his eyes, letting out a dramatic sigh.

‎Wth a feral growl, he rapidly devoured the meat, wolfing it down with alarming speed.

‎Cassius chuckled.

‎" Slow down, man. At this rate, you’ll probably give me a run for my money."

‎Morgan paused momentarily between bites, turning to Cassius.

‎"I really hope I’m not dreaming.."

‎Lucian reached out and lightly jabbed his shoulder.

‎"Nope, you’re back, this isn’t a dream."

‎Morgan let out a sigh of relief, wolfing down several more sticks of the meat. While it wasn’t seasoned or meticulously prepared, it was definitely the best Meal he’d had in a while.

‎After he’d satiated the ravenous hunger, he leaned back, visibly relaxing.

‎"How long was I out for?"

‎"Three days..." Emily replied, watching him intently.

‎Morgan’s eeyes widenedslightly, then he shook his head

‎" I had the strangest dream, well, it was more like a nightmare."

‎Lucian quietly offered him a flask of water.

‎"Water too?"

‎Lucian nodded.

‎"I’ll explain everything. Go on, drink up."

Wincing slightly, Morgan grasped the flask, ignoring the waves of pain biting into his hands.

‎Morgan drank like a man in the desert, savouring every drop of water.

‎Sitting upright, he quietly stared into the flames, sorting through the chaotic storm of thoughts in his mind.

‎A voice broke through his reverie, rousing him from his thoughts.

‎"So, what was it like being trapped in that wall?"

‎Surprisingly, Amanda was the one who asked.

‎"It was...strange. It was a strange experience, being trapped inside my mind. The creature inside said its name was Azaroth..."

‎Morgan slowly explained everything that had happened inside the matrix, leaving out a few details here and there.

There were things he hadn’t quite understood, things he couldn’t explain to himself.

‎" From everything that we’ve discovered so far, there are things that we don’t know about the world, things that haven’t been discovered by the Brotherhood or even the Praesagius."

‎Morgan grinned, staring intently into the flames.

‎" I think it’s time I came clean about a few things."

‎Morgan turned and smiled at Talia, then his gaze shifted back to the flames.

‎"You guys have probably wondered for a while how I’ve been able to survive several times now. Probably even in scenarios that an ordinary initiate couldn’t possibly survive. There’s someone I’d like for you all to meet."

‎Morgan’s eyes shone with ethereal golden brilliance.

‎Then the darkness around him surged, writhing, growing darker.

‎An unprecedented pressure erupted from the darkness behind Morgan, washing over the group.

‎Cassius’ eyes glowed, his ability reacting to the unknown threat.

‎Lucian’s every instinct screamed at him to move, but he stayed put.

‎A dark figure stepped out of the darkness, coming to a stop beside him.

‎The figure was a mirror version of Morgan, resembling an exact replica of the seating boy.

‎The group warily observed the tenebrous figure in shock.

‎ Brilliant white flames burned where his eyes should have been.

‎Talia straightened, watching the figure with interest.

‎"Guys, this is Sarenus..."

‎Talia frowned

‎"The name is sort of lame. Im.assu.ing your name, whatever that thing behind you is."

‎Morgan ignored the jabs.

‎"Sarenus is an effect of my Awakened ability. With him watching my back, I’m able to fight with the strength of two people instead of one. "

‎Lucian rose to his feet, coming face-to-face with the silent figure.

‎"Is he able to speak?"

‎Morgan shook his head.

‎"Nothing you guys would be able to understand, but I’m able to communicate with him."

‎Morgan rose standing next to the tenebrous figure.

‎"Needless to say, this party of my ability takes a huge toll on my concentration and places an immense strain on me."

‎With a thought, Morgan dismissed the tenebrous figure, Sarenus’ form harmlessly dissolving into the darkness.

‎He sat back down, then, after a while, threw a furtive glance at Emily.

‎Among the people present, she was closer to the truth than most.

‎Disclosing Sarenus’s presence was actually Sarenus’s suggestion.

‎An idea the drayghar had concocted for Morgan.

‎" Think of it as an alibi. By passing me off as part of your ’Awakened’, you’ll remove a lot of unwanted attention away from yourself, and I’ll be present in caseyou’rer into any unsavoury foes."

‎And so Morgan had reluctantly agreed to reveal the Drayghar, passing him off as a part of his ability.

‎"The name is sort of lame," Sarenus mimicked in a mock feminine voice.

‎"I’ll show her who’s lame."

‎Morgan quietly chuckled, turning back to the rest of the group.

‎"Now that that’s out of the way, could you tell me how exactly we ended up her?."

‎Lucian smiled.

‎"That part is actually quite easy."

‎After you defeated Azaroth and dramatically passed out, the massive gates opened on their own. We made our way inside and discovered something quite interesting.

‎Unlike the outer part of the city that’s stuck in a perpetual cycle of night, this place actually has some semblance of a normal day.

‎The two moons set, and then this daylight streams in; the only thing is it’s light.

‎There’s no sun.

‎Just like the rest of the city, there wasn’t really anyone inhabiting the city except for some lesser aberrants.

‎Cassius grinned.

‎" Said abberants are now your food."

‎And it gets better, " Samantha said with a smile.

‎This place has water. Real water.

‎Lucian nodded.

‎This part of the city has built-in water channels. From what we can tell, the water comes from underground and moves through the channels to the inner city."

We haven’t understood the mechanism of how this happens, but from what we can tell, the people who lived here were quite advanced.

Talia drew on the ground, outlining some of the parts they’d been too.

And the architecture is quite impressive.
