Nightblade (Darkest night)-Chapter 181: Terror
Morgan froze in place, his entire body going still.
In a nearby building, Lucian calmly watched the street below, hidden from sight.
On the opposite rooftop Talia and Samantha lay in wait, observing the street in silence.
After a few moments, a massive roar echoed through the streets.
Morgan slipped into the shadows, melding deeper in to the darkness for good measure.
"They’re almost here."
Next yo him, a mirror version of himself composed of inky darkness materialized out of the darkness standing next to him.
"You know, I wasn’t expecting you to use my power like this...’Sarenus grumbled.
Morgan grinned rolling his eyes.
" well, we’ll have to make it believable you’re the one that suggested this in the first place.
Sarenus’ ingenious idea had worked well, a little too well in fact.
With him and Morgan working in tandem, the hunts for Tenebrian prey had become much simpler.
The group of seven youths had only encounter lesser abberants within the city and luckily enough, their deepest fear hadn’t come to pass.
Not yet at least.
They hadn’t run into a calamity, the fearsome umbralis manipulating creatures that could rival even maestros.
Just like Talia had said, inside of the city was quite impressive.
Towering structures rivalling even some of the skyscrapers back on Earth rose to
the sky.
The group hadn’t had time to explore the ruins in their entirety.
Due to the vastness of the city, Lucian believed they’d discover a clue on how to get home by exploring the ruins within the city.
Morgan’s hand throbbed for a moment drawing his attention to the pake mark that had been burned into his skin.
The intricate key resembled a tattoo and despite his best attempts at removing it the engraving stubbornly remained in his skin.
Channelinh umbralis and the drayghar’s flames through his body had revealed nothing.
There was no trace of any foreign influences within his body, no sign of foul play from Azaroth.
Other than the occasional throb the obscure mark was mostly silent and had not reacted to anything.
On the other side of the building where he was stealthily hidden, a wide chasm which formed a massive channel of water flowed through the city.
It was quite refreshing rally.
Tasting water after such a long time.
While melting the ice from Emily’s ability had held them afloat gor a while, tasting the cool refreshing water had been quite nostalgic.
The other thing was light.
While it wasn’t the sun, it was still something other than the suffocating darkness of the city of the Damned.
Azeoth had called the sanctuary hidden somewhere within the city the sanctuary of the Damned so it was only fitting that the city itself was the city of the Damned.
Not to mention the eerie creatures, the veliscera that had resided outside it’s walls.ftankly it was all the more surprising that they had t discovered been more terrifying creatures within it.
Neddlees, to say the light was a welcome surprise.
At dusk, the light would disappear just as mysteriously as it had appeared, throwing throwing the city back into it’s shroud of supposed eternal darkness.
A few moment later, the reason why he was hiding roared once more. In the next moment, the ground trembled benth their feet.
"Time for you show off Sarenus."
Sarenus scoffed.
"This is truly beneath me."
Morgan smiled wincing slightly.
The dark cracks on his hands haf refused to heal, and instead showed signs of spreading even further.
As a result, Morgan mostly stayed of action, relying on Sarenus to take up his role in combat.
With a sigh, he stepped out of the shadows.
The darkness surged around them, white flames burning where his eyes should have been.
A wave of oppressive pressure washed over the street momentarily slowing down the charging creature.
Talia narrowed her eyes, gazing down at the tenebrous figure that had stepped out of the shadows into the street.
It was almost unthinkable that a mere initiate had such a fear some weapon in their arsenal.
With her slightly enhanced sight, she could clearly see everything that was going on down in the street.
And surprisingly enough so could the talented girl standing next to her.
Samantha had no notable powers to speak of.
However almost miraculously, the obsidian spear she allowed the girl to manipulate the umbralis around her.
At first that was all that was happening. But then Lucian had been the first to realize.
The petite brunette was slowly developing an affinity for umbralis, at times even managing to randomly emit the obscure energy.
What was perhaps truly terrifying was the speed at which she picked up the skill.
From what the two scions could tell, Samantha was a gem in the rough, a prodigy in her own right.
Letting out a sigh, she turned her attention back to the street below.
The tenebrous figure in the street alone made Morgan the most monstrous initiate that she’d come across.
Even with him out of commission, the being he called Sarenus was more than enough to protect him from most if not all immediate threats.
Talia had seen the creature, if it could even could be called that, fight before but each time she saw it still left her dazed.
The creature that they were hunting was a beast, a lesser abberant they’d nicknamed the lightning moose for one reason.
On the street the creature burst into the scene, it’s massive hooves crashing through the gilded pavement on the street.
With each stride, a massive surge of current ran through it’s body, channeling up to it’s massive antler shapes horns.
Within moments, a massive amount of electricity gathered into a massive ball projecting from it’s head.
Bolts of electricity surged through the nearby building, the air turning damp and thick with the scent of ozone.
A short distance behind the massive beast, Amanda and Emily came into view, rising atop Cassius back.
The Talented girl continually deflected the bolts of electricity from the lightning moose, protecting Cassius from the lethal discharges.
Cassius on the other hand harassed the massive creature driving into a corner.
Emily’s eyes glowed an ethereal green.
Towering walls of ice erupted on either side of the creature blocking off any path of escape, the ice continuously mending itself everytime the creature slammed into it.
With Amanda’s help, the trio gradually drive the massive creature into a trap, where Samantha, Morgan and Talia were waiting to finish it off.
With a masive roar, the creature discharged a ball of electricity at the small figure standing before it.
The lightning moose had instinctively felt the threat posed by the unimposing figure standing before it.
Sarenus calmly walked forward then dissipated into a torrent of darkness before the attack.
Lucian’s eyes narrowed, watching the fight closely.
Just like him, the rest watched Sarenus closely.
His was a strange combat style that unique only to him.
The tenebriys gigure Rarely defended, always going on the offense while seemingly never getting harmed itself.
It was quitevan enthralling sight to behold everytime it fought.
While the dark wraith below was a facet of Morgan’s ability, the figure moved mstch faster than Morgan did.
In fact, it wouldn’t be off the mark to say that the mysterious entity was a being with a life of its own.
The speed and agility with which it moved would make it a menace even for a Maestro.
And it’s strength was almost something else entirely.
Talia’s eyes widened in visible surprise.
"It was hit?"
A moment latr, the darkness surged swiftly refidming Sarenus figure.
"No."
Lucian quickly realized what had happened, smirking at the sight.
The dark figure continued it’s indomitable march across across the cracked road, striking nonchalantly towards the charging beast .
The creature roared it’s challenge, lowering its head into a full frontal charge.
A fiery blade of flames manifested in the figure’s outstretched hand, stretching to the ground.
On the next moment, Sarenus blurred across the ground, its figure zipping across the road.
The ground cracked in his wake, jagged cracks appearing in the road surface.
For a moment, Sarenus tenebrous figure disappeared from view.
Lucian squinted in disbelief.
"It’s actually moving si fast that I can’t travk it with my eyes. "
His eyes widened, his mouth falling open in surprise.
"What a monster!"
Several cuts appeared on the lightning moose body, there brilliant white flames instantly cauterizing the cuts.
The dark figure rematerialized in it’s orinsl position on the street across the immobilized creature with almost exaggerated nonchalance.
The flaming blade dissipated vanishing from sight.
Sarenus nonchalantly turned his bsck to the wailing moose, striding bsck info the darkness.
A moment later, the moose head, slid off its neck falling to the ground eithna sickening squelch.
Lucisn inwardly shuddered, at the sight gulping.
The two girls leapt off Cassius back jogging g towards the butchered creature.
Cassius swiftly transformed back into his human form quietly staring at the carcass of the lightning moose.
"Terrifying...simply terrifying ."
Talia shook her head turning her attention to the figure limping out the shadows across the start.
Morgan pimped to wife he others were standing offering them a nonchalant smile.
"Im starving. Any one else?"
