No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 570 - 568: Starting to Doubt [5 More Updates]
Hudson looked at Christopher, whose face was full of anger, frowned tightly, and reminded him, "After you left last night, Seven announced she’s getting engaged to Ian on Christmas."
Listening to Hudson’s report, Christopher was instantly dumbfounded, his mind went blank, feeling as if he’d been emptied.
All his willpower collapsed in an instant.
He could hardly believe the speed at which Seven and Ian moved, announcing their engagement so quickly.
Christopher felt weak from head to toe, even his fingers couldn’t move. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
He stared straight at Hudson, asking in disbelief, "What did you say?"
Hudson saw the pain in Christopher’s eyes and took a deep breath, calmly saying, "Seven is getting engaged to Ian on Christmas, in 18 days. She’s serious this time; she seems to really like Ian."
"Hudson, let me be quiet." Christopher said weakly.
For a moment, he had no idea how to process this news, feeling like he was dreaming, a dream he didn’t want to face.
"Alright! I’m leaving. Don’t think too much about it, after all, in these 7 years without Seven, you’ve been doing quite well." Hudson said and got up to leave.
Listening to Hudson say that he had done quite well these seven years without Seven, Christopher found himself at a loss for words.
Did he really have a good time these seven years? Christopher himself couldn’t judge, but he knew that at this moment, he felt extremely bad, unbearably so.
After Hudson left, Christopher hurriedly grabbed the phone and dialed Seven’s number.
At this moment, he was not entangled at all; he just wanted to have a good chat with Seven.
Although he hadn’t been with Seven these seven years and nothing really changed, he couldn’t accept Seven being happy with someone else, couldn’t just watch Seven getting engaged with someone else.
The call went through, and Seven asked with a smile, "Christopher, what’s up?"
From Seven’s tone, Christopher couldn’t hear any emotion directed at him, as if they’d never had a past together, as if they’d never been well together.
Christopher took a deep breath and asked as calmly as possible, "I heard you’re getting engaged to Ian?"
"Yes! On Christmas, do come and show support!" Seven’s tone was light, without any nostalgia for the past.
"Seven, let’s talk."
On the other end, Seven fell silent, unsure of how to respond to Christopher.
Regarding her feelings for Christopher, Seven had nothing to say and didn’t want to delve into who was right or wrong back then; she just wanted a fresh start, especially since she’d already moved on, unwilling to look back.
She didn’t want to reconcile with Christopher only to relive a repeat failure; whenever they were together, they’d both mind why neither backed down seven years ago. Seven didn’t want to compete with Christopher anymore; she just wanted to live well.
As for Christopher’s current regret and his desire to make amends, Seven understood them all.
But, even though she understood and could empathize,
she couldn’t accept it anymore.
So she smiled gracefully and said, "Christmas is coming, I have to stock new goods at the store, I’ll call you when I’m done with these days of work."
Actually, a meal wouldn’t take much time for Seven, but she just wasn’t willing to meet Christopher.
She could talk to Christopher about work, friendship, gossip, everything except feelings.
However, Christopher only wanted to talk to her about feelings.
So Seven diplomatically refused.
"Seven, don’t be like this, okay?" Christopher pleaded bitterly, if only he’d begged Seven like this seven years ago, they wouldn’t have missed these seven years.
"Christopher, I have to go now; another day, Ian and I will invite you to dinner." Seven said and then hung up the phone.
After hanging up, Seven took a deep breath and shook her head helplessly, talking to herself, "Why don’t you understand, we can’t go back, even if we did, it wouldn’t feel like back then."
These days, being with Ian, Seven felt happy; aside from work, she was busy dating Ian. As for the entanglement between her and Christopher, she’d already discarded it far away, treating it as something from a past life.
Since it’s something from a past life, naturally Seven didn’t want to pick it up again, no matter how good or bad it was with Christopher, it had already become a deep memory.
Now, she and Christopher were no longer the inseparable pair they used to be.
So let the memories stay in memories and don’t let them come out to affect the future life, otherwise it will only become increasingly embarrassing, and Seven didn’t want this.
In Christopher’s office, he looked at the phone hanging up, at her rejection, at her and Ian’s lightning-fast romance, Christopher’s heart was inexplicably in pain.
This feeling, he couldn’t describe, nor could he understand.
He didn’t have such feelings in the 7 years without Seven; why did they come back so strongly upon her return, Christopher couldn’t figure it out.
Meanwhile, in Liam’s villa study room.
Maya, as usual, was alone in the study practicing calligraphy, completely unaware of Christopher’s call last night.
Perhaps influenced by Seven’s engagement, Maya wasn’t in a high mood today while practicing calligraphy, her written words always seemed a bit sad to her.
She looked at the words on the desk, sighed helplessly, then put down the brush, propped her right hand on the table, rested her chin, staring blankly into space.
She thought, if there really was no endpoint between Seven and Christopher, she hoped someone could replace Seven, letting Christopher not feel so bad, and quickly emerge from the shadows.
While Maya was lost in thought, her phone suddenly rang; the call was from Liam.
Maya answered the call and asked weakly, "Liam, what is it?"
"Little thing, you seem unhappy."
"No, it’s just that my mood is a bit low." Maya confessed frankly.
"Chairman Bennett invited us over for dinner at his house tonight, I’ll come home to pick you up in the afternoon."
"Weren’t we just there a few days ago? Why are we invited again?" Maya frowned, totally puzzled by Chairman Bennett.
"Yeah! The man feels he has a connection with us and his cooking skills are quite good. I’ll pick you up at four after getting off work, Christopher and Hudson will come by in the afternoon, so I won’t be home."
"Okay!" Maya lazily nodded and hung up after a few words of polite chat.
After hanging up, Maya frowned and fell into contemplation, pondering why Chairman Bennett was so keen on connecting with them.
Liam said it was because of their connection, but before she met James Bennett, the man hadn’t invited Liam for a dinner even once.
It was evident that his so-called connection was aimed at her.
Given he mentioned not pursuing her, why was he treating her so well?
Maya didn’t believe in the so-called connection; even if the connection was deep, it wouldn’t warrant such kindness to a stranger, personally cooking meals and making foods she loved.
Maya felt that James Bennett’s affection towards her seemed a little complicated, not something that could be explained away by the word ’connection’ alone.
Spoiler: Maya begins to suspect, planning to probe James Bennett tomorrow.
