Chapter 603: Chapter 601: Can’t Take You [3rd Update]

"Alright! Got it, Maya’s emotions are unstable right now, don’t open the door for her." James Bennett was afraid if she burst out, if she really used extreme measures to retaliate against him, he might have to give up his own life too.

Then, he added, "Ask the kitchen to prepare calming tea."

"Understood!" The servant received the order and withdrew.

A moment later, after dealing with his wound, James Bennett left the study and went to the bedroom.

However, he didn’t dare to open the bedroom door. He feared that opening the door might provoke Maya again, causing her temporarily calmed emotions to erupt once more. He didn’t want to see her upset. So, he just quietly stood at the doorway, listening to the sounds from inside.

Time passed by second by second. Inside, Maya was in a daze, and James Bennett listened at the door, hearing no sound from her. He began to worry again, not knowing how she was doing inside.

He then raised his right hand and knocked on the door, concern in his voice: "Maya, are you still upset? Can we talk?"

Inside the bedroom, Maya heard James’s voice, her eyes widened, staring fixedly at the distant door. Yet, she refused to agree to talk with James; she didn’t want to talk to him.

"Maya, are you listening to me? If you hear my voice, can you respond?" James Bennett’s voice was very gentle and appeasing to Maya. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

But Maya ignored him, listening to James’s slightly anxious voice and feeling a kind of satisfaction instead.

She suddenly realized that by ignoring James, she could make him feel unsettled, more worried.

So, facing James’s questions, she didn’t answer a word, and hearing his increasingly anxious voice, she finally found a slight sense of balance in her heart.

Anyway, if James Bennett isn’t happy, she would be happy, and she believed her mother would be happy too.

"Sir, dinner is ready." The servant cautiously reported.

"Prepare a portion and bring it up." James Bennett ordered.

In a short while, the servant came up with the dinner tray.

James Bennett looked at the food brought up by the servant, took a deep breath, opened the bedroom door, and went inside.

In the corner of the room, Maya was curled up into a ball, hugging her knees, sitting on the floor. When she saw James Bennett enter, she involuntarily moved back a little—she was avoiding him.

James Bennett saw Maya’s rejection of him, turned his voice down, and whispered to the servant: "Just leave it there."

"Yes, sir." When the servant put the dinner in the small sitting room outside the bedroom, she left.

Now, only James Bennett and Maya were left in the bedroom.

Maya glared at the man getting closer and closer, her brows furrowing tighter, glaring at him fiercely, and said, "Don’t act so fake in front of me; I won’t believe you and I won’t forgive you. My mom died because of you."

James Bennett listened to Maya’s accusations without any rebuttal. He just walked up to her, squatted down, and gently caressed her face with his big hand, saying to himself, "Maya, drink something first, have some food, fill your stomach, okay?"

James Bennett was very humble in front of Maya; he felt he owed her. He didn’t have the right to speak arrogantly to her, let alone ask her to acknowledge him as her father.

Feeling the warmth of James Bennett’s big hand, Maya was overwhelmed with anger, suddenly brushed his hand away, and shouted furiously at him, "Don’t touch me!"

"Okay, okay! I won’t touch you. Be good, have some water, and I won’t touch you." James Bennett saw her defensiveness and quickly retreated a few steps.

He wasn’t afraid of Maya biting or hitting him again, but he didn’t want to see her emotional breakdown again because he didn’t know if her emotions would be uncontrollable the next time.

Maya watched James Bennett compromise with her, gave him a disdainful glare, then turned her head away, ignoring him and not speaking to him.

"Maya, be good, okay? I really don’t want to hurt you; I’m just afraid you’ll hurt yourself."

"..." Faced with James Bennett’s attempt to make peace, Maya didn’t take it to heart and ignored him.

"Maya, eat your meal, so you’ll have the strength to give me a hard time, and you’ll have the strength to get revenge on me!"

"..." Maya still didn’t speak.

James Bennett just wanted her to eat well and have a good talk with him, but she just wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t pay attention to him, and went against him in every way.

Seeing Maya ignoring him, James Bennett felt helpless, so he went into the small sitting room, picked up the calming tea prepared by the servant, knelt on one knee in front of Maya, and tried to feed her.

He saw Maya’s lips chapped, her hair disheveled, and became anxious, so he had to take a slightly firmer approach.

Feeling the taste of the tea James Bennett fed to her lips, Maya lifted her right hand and swung it swiftly, knocking over the bowl and spoon in his hand.

Seeing her not yielding at all, James Bennett became anxious and frustrated. He took a deep breath, reached out his right hand, gently pinched Maya’s small face, and made her look into his eyes, saying, "Maya, I’ve said all the good things to you and explained to you. Finish eating, and I’ll take you back."

"If you keep acting like this, I’ll have no choice but to have the doctor give you a nutritional injection."

James Bennett didn’t want to threaten Maya, but her stubbornness gave him a headache, left him helpless, and this temper was just like her mother’s.

Hearing James’s threat, Maya rolled her eyes at him, then turned her head away, not looking at him.

She wasn’t afraid of James Bennett’s threat. It was already six in the afternoon, and even though she had stopped James Bennett from calling Liam, Liam would still come to find her.

Right now, she just needed to ignore James Bennett, let him stew in his own anger, and wait for Liam to pick her up. As for her grievances with Liam, she would deal with them when they met.

After causing a scene, Maya still felt resentful toward Liam, thinking he didn’t consider her feelings enough, and was still very displeased with him pushing her in front of James Bennett.

With her little scheme, how could James Bennett not guess? Seeing Maya still ignoring him, he stared at her small face and said earnestly, "Maya, I won’t let you go. Even if Liam comes, he can’t take you away; this is our family matter."

"Hehe..." Hearing the words ’family matter,’ Maya’s lips curled into a sarcastic smile, and she laughed coldly at James Bennett twice.

Even though she wanted to strike back at James Bennett, wanted to ask him how he could treat her as family and when he ever fulfilled the duties of a family member,

But she knew that as long as she spoke up, expressed her thoughts, James Bennett would have a chance to explain, to excuse his own mistakes. Maya didn’t want to hear his explanations, so she just laughed coldly and ignored him.
