Nyxfall 7: The Veilbreakers-Chapter 56: Free Things

Kai placed the arrows in the inventory and closed the interface. Then, looking at the people beside him who were staring at him in confusion, Kai asked,

"Do you want to come, or go to the dungeon first? It’s just straight ahead."

"Where are you going?" Zayden asked.

"You’re going back!?" Bella answered before he could.

Kai just nodded.

"I will come too.." Bella declared.

Kai stretched his hand forward. Both Zayden and Bella looked at it with confusion, then Bella’s eyes widened as she realized what he was going to do and placed her hand in his with more enthusiasm than necessary. Zayden didn’t miss it. Looking at Kai, he said,

"I will come too.."

Kai held his hand too and said,

"When it changes, hold onto the tree branch quickly."

Zayden looked at him sideways, his eyebrows furrowed,

"What change—"

Before he could finish, Kai used the Godstep and arrived atop the tree branch — but the angle of the arrow was not ideal, and they were slightly to the side of the branch, not completely in the middle. Kai had expected it, so he quickly grabbed the thick branch before falling down.

Bella took a second to process, but she too, with her quick reflexes, grabbed onto the branch — leaving only Zayden, whom Kai had to grab by his collar. It wasn’t easy to lift a guy at level 21 with one hand, but still, Kai just had to pull him up and he quickly grabbed the branch, supporting his own weight.

"Not enough instructions, man! Not enough instructions!" Zayden fumed as all three of them pulled themselves up.

Kai grabbed his mouth and muffled his voice, gesturing for him to shut up as he pointed down.

The battle was going at full swing. There had even been several casualties from both sides as some loot was scattered around them. Some were scrambling to pick it up, others ignoring it, or using the greed to launch attacks. All kinds of skills flew around — one guy was literally running around attacking with his claws as a complete werewolf-like, dark brown monster; another was a similar monster but more of a demonic-type humanoid with four arms, fully cyan in color.

These were Nexus Kin players with a large affinity in the Exodian Bloodline, at least 80 points. Kai had seen a post about the possibility of getting a transformation skill as a bloodline skill if one did this. The others had the more common glowing swords, spears, and arrows, as well as some unique skills — like conjuring green vines and manipulating them, which was Xterminate07’s skill, and then the Obsidian Knight leader’s skill, which was some kind of weird black brick-like thing floating in midair as a stepping stone.

’What are we going to do here?’ Kai received a text message from Bella in his interface.

’What do you think?’ Kai replied.

’You want to fight? There are too many!’ Then she followed with, ’No, not fight. You want to pick up their loot!’

Kai just smiled.

She continued,

’They’ll know it was you once they figure out no one has picked up the loot from their enemies..’

Kai only replied with,

’Just stay here. It’ll be over quickly.’

Only around 7–8 people were left. Kai knew both sides must have asked for backup from other members of their guilds, so he didn’t have much time.

Kai retrieved his bow and launched four normal arrows one after another, all landing on nearby trees, encircling the common path on which the fight was happening.

Then he breathed in and picked up three targets, all lower than 100 in HP, and launched three arrows consecutively, all three headshots — killing the three players instantly. All from the Obsidian Knights.

Nyxfall did not use the killer’s name if the player had selected to hide it, but as consequences such kills would give no Exp, neither can a player pick up the target’s items and if caught by NPC will be held responsible as murderer and all the mysterious deaths will be on the killer’s head from then on.

"Backup! Form up! FORM UP!" Graveyardshift shouted, then used his Air Step ability to land near his group and got everyone to go back-to-back, keeping their eyes wide open to search in the direction the arrow had come from for any movement. Some took out shields and covered the side where Kai was.

Even Xterminate07 and his group did the same. He knew for a fact that it wasn’t their backup. Then it must be an unknown group or attacker. He too went back-to-back with his group, fully alert, shielding one side.

Kai smiled and used Godstep again to go to the opposite side from where he was, landing on another tree branch behind both groups’ backs. Kai pulled out three explosion arrows and bent his knee, placing two arrows on the branch. Kai aimed with one and shot it. The second it left his bow, Kai picked up another in a second and shot that one too.

The two groups of players heard the ’Shuaa’ ’Shuaa’ from their backs, and their eyes widened, but there was no time. They expected one of them to die — but reality proved to be much worse as two explosions resounded in their ears one after another, throwing them to the ground as they turned to red particles before losing their consciousness.

Kai held the third arrow to see if anyone survived, but to his fortune, none did. A pile of loot scattered around the battlefield was revealed once the dirt and smoke cleared, along with black scorched land and two small craters. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Kai shot a simple arrow in the middle of the loot pile but didn’t use his skill yet. Instead, he shot another arrow back to his original tree branch and got the other two, and all three together replaced the arrow in the middle of the loot.

"What in the hell?" Zayden shouted, "What kind of overpowered skill was that?"

Bella, however, just stared at Kai with indecipherable expressions hidden in her eyes.

"Not a skill.." she murmured, "An item crafted by the Basic Forger skill.."

Kai, however, only barely heard them as he looked around and found some interesting items tagged with Rare and Uncommon, along with a pile of silver, bronze, and gold coins. The two guild leaders had dropped a lot of things.
